Looking for a new VPN that will accept BTC or any other reasonable payment method such as XMR. Must be non-KYC, Tor friendly, and work in Linux. I have seen there are many new ones since last time I checked. On directories like kycnot.me I see 32 VPN's listed, however the thing with those directories is im not sure if the reviews are verified and legit or not. Also would be great if they have been running for a while and of course must be open source if they use any clients. If someone is familiar with some legit ones let me know which VPN are you using at the moment. The Obscura one looks interesting but requires that you buy 3 months with XMR.

Btw, if anyone knows an exchange/service to swap BTC for alts that is legit and has the same privacy-friendly principles (non-KYC, Tor friendly, open source and so on) also let me know as I will need this too in order to pay for the VPN since most privacy friendly VPNs are moving to XMR it seems. Some accept LN too but im not familiar with LN at all.

Base on the specification you have given, the best of them is AirVPN. It is non-KYC, Tor friendly and accept payment in XMR directly hence no third party needed. You can signup with temp email, no name or anything else is required. There is also some beautiful security features such as network lock kill switch, port forwarding and RAM-only servers. You can test if for 3 days at $2.2 only but their 1 month subscription is $7.65 and the longer the subscription period, the cheaper it becomes.

Yes overall this is a good VPN. I have been seeing for a few days that julerz12 is running a campaign where six months of Mullvad VPN is almost free, just need $20 deposit at a casino and 1x wagering. Both website mention Proton. But FWIW, sometimes they're not really Tor-friendly if you need to register new account, such as require additional verification that would reduce your privacy.

OP, I think you can read this thread too[1]. It's still maintained as far as I'm aware. Some options are listed on the OP too, so there's no need to scroll down several pages. Might be worth doing that if reviews are what you're looking for. I've personally tried Mullvad, NordVPN, Windscribe, but if privacy is the focus I think Mullvad is probably the first pick. CMIIW.

So you recommend Wire-guard instead of their own software? For what reason? I have never used VPN's much and when I did I used their software, mostly because it was easier to screw up during setup, but if anyone explains why I may give Wire-guard a try and finally learn how to use it.

Also does it work with Tor to do the whole registration, signup and so on? The whole website seems to work well so far as I browse it. However I cannot find a step by step guide in how to install it properly with Wire-guard. If you have a legit tutorial I will try to get to it but first I need to find out how to get some XMR to pay. Is there an Electrum-type XMR wallet? I don't want to download an entire blockchain.

What do you recommend to anonymize your BTC before paying? Exchanging them for XMR? What are some trusted services and how do you avoid unluckily ending up with tainted coins? I want privacy when paying but I also don't want to end up with tainted coins. It's not fair this whole "tainted coins" thing but what can you do. I mean imagine you pay a service with tainted coins, it's great so I would like to avoid that.

One of the things I like the most about Mullvad (beside reliability, speed, being privacy oriented etc) is that it doesn't use that annoying practice (well, annoying to me) that many other VPNs do and that is to make 1 month sub much higher compared to let's say 24 months. I do understand why they do that, but I prefer Mullvad's no bs approach where in the end costs the same whether you pay for 1 month of 5 years.

You can connect to Tor and generate your account without downloading.. you will be needing the number while setting it up ..

Really? It's a very popular VPN provider and it probably has the best reputation online when it comes to privacy. Surfshark and NordVPN aren't best choices for privacy though. Otherwise, if you want a VPN for streaming and gaming, both are good choices.

VPNs are a problem in countries like Belarus, Iran, Turkmenistan, China, North Korea and in a few other countries. In most of the world, it's perfectly fine to use them for privacy.

VPNs are a problem in countries like Belarus, Iran, Turkmenistan, China, North Korea and in a few other countries. In most of the world, it's perfectly fine to use them for privacy.

I think his question is more about the service provider dealing with client data. These guys are in Sweden I think. As far as I know western countries force businesses to collect client data so I wonder how they run it. It's great that you can pay anonymously tho, since it's helping a lot of people that would be in trouble, in places like the ones you mentioned for instance. A Chinese person wanting to escape his regime can do it thanks to guy like Mullvad, im just wondering how they run their business and pay taxes on anonymous clients. Perhaps it's not even needed that they collect any personal info. At the end of the day you can go to shops and pay with cash without saying anything. However crypto payments have a permanent record so that would be something to consider. Like if you are Chinese and you are paying to avoid the great firewall with a VPN, you should study how the whole process looks like. And even if you are just a western dude that wants some privacy, you want to know if the coins you are using are low AML risk for instance, as when you pay the service, the service will have to pay taxes and im not sure what happens in that case if you are unlucky and you get some tainted coins in the process of paying. Even if you are using Tor and using random names and so on, you want to minimize any risks and understand how it all works before doing anything.

Most VPN services accepts bitcoin and monero this days, but I would only use reliable options like Mullvad, or newer but more decentralized options like NYM and Obscura VPN.
I think you can still get a huge discount for NYM VPN 2 year deal if you pay with NYM token, but you can also pay more with monero or bitcoin.
I suggest first trying and testing each service if it works for your system before paying long term deals.

How is the download speed? Especially for torrenters?

I am currently using the free version of Proton VPN because I do not need to torrent and for browsing it is great. 0 Euro per month.

The only downsides are that I cannot torrent with it and I also cannot freely choose the VPN country.
