Does this mean that they have the power, knowledge and resources to bring down or at least severely harm a network like bitcoin?

They won't touch it if Governments can make money off it like through Taxation.
They may try if we will try to cheat their taxing of it.

How and when did they attack Tor? I don't see how they can disrupt Bitcoin anyway.

http://www.wired.com/2013/09/freedom-hosting-fbi/

Relevant article. There was too much panic whet the FBI took down Silk Road. At the time people were saying that TOR should never be considered anonymous again and .onions were shutting down one after another.

Anything computer related can be interrupted or shut down/hacked. Nothing in the cyber world is safe.

Good look taking down a decentralised network.

I don't really think they attacked Tor, but took over a server. It's not like Bitcoin is hosted on one.

SR2.0 also had their wallet cleaned out according to reddit because they like Karpeles apparently rolled their own implementation that directly interacted with the bitcoin protocol and was full o' bugs. Lot's of these sites are also doing stupid things like using MongoDB or other NoSQL http://hackingdistributed.com/2014/04/06/another-one-bites-the-dust-flexcoin/

The government has schizophrenia.

Sometimes it likes us,
and sometimes it hates us.
Sometimes it helps us,
and sometimes it attacks us.
