It has been confirmed that the person who was responsible for the fake information has been found and arrested. The alleged guilty person is a 27-year-old lady.

I read about the news today. Although, I knew nothing will happen to Opay because this is not the first time we are hearing the fake news like that. If something will happen, we would definitely know, but not from untrusted sources.

The lady can be pardoned, but she can be sent to maybe 10 days in prison and with community service. I think that will teach other people a lesson. I will see it as pardon because what she did, the prison term is higher than that. This is just my suggestion.

It also got me scared when I heard of the news, what came to my mind was the unexpected funds I usually receive from my opay account.

I have business partners that do send money to my account without even informing me, I had to write message to all my customers to stop any transaction using my opay account.

I also have a boss that initially when opay started operating didn't trust their services to hold and save his funds, but with time and also my frequent use of opay, he later build trust on them and started trusting their service.

The fake news have once again raised his doubt and untrust for opay and since then, he has stopped using opay even though I confirmed to him that the information was fake.

This kind of fake news shouldn't be taken likely because it will destroy the trust their customers have for them, god knows how many customers they may have lost due to the fake news.

The arrest of the person that spread the news on my end is very good, because it will scare anyone in the future that intends to do same, so they should take legal action against the person.

I also came across the news today that the lady was arrested. At the same time, the news regarding the punishment under the law given to her was not disclosed.

I feel the lady should be left unpunished, considering the damage was repaired instantly after OPay sent a message to all their users that the information was false.

Well, this character of spreading fake rumors to farm engagement on social apps should start. If one person is not used as an example, the rest won't learn.

To be honest,  I was genuinely shocked  to see that info on X. I wanted to even remove my money from Opay that day ,till I saw a notice from Opay that it's all fake. That girl need serious questioning, because we are in the era where people tend to believe informations online. And the Internet has become a tool that can be used to manipulate people or narratives. There are alot of people who have gotten scot free from this kind of atrocities. Funny thing is that they are just using it to boost their X impressions to be eligible for creators payment.  People are now going extreme to do bad things for money and fame. A little punishment serves her right and it will also make people to refrain from such act.

Nice arrest, we need more of this as this is becoming a huge problem, fake news and impersonations of accounts from celebrities and public figures, fake tweets, and posts edited or created with the use of AI that never happened.

A few weeks and days in prison, and a large amount for bail will teach others a good lesson not to create fake news. Opay is a company and business, what she did would have lost them many customers at the time, is this not wickedness and deserving of punishment?

I was not moved by the news because I knew it was a fake one. Opay is one of the fintech banks that has been booming now in the country since the days of the cashless policy. So it is normal that we see news like this that will want to tarnish their image in the country. Opay have official channels that they will communicate with their customers when they have an important message to be passed and not this particular one that was very obvious that it is a fake news.

I didn’t know about her arrest because the last time I also checked on X where she was tagged by Opay about the news and to apologize and to discard the news to be fake to the public, she complied and did it immediately. I don’t know that Opay still took legal action against her for what she has done to damage their reputation.
