And you think the strategy is not working on some people? Students are an easy target for the government. When I was in school, the mentality of some students was retarded. I understand that most of them are coming from a poor background, but it was easy to buy most of thethe heart of the wealth student and the poor students.

I witnessed vehicles taking students to vote during the last presidential election. On their return, they were given 2,000 naira and two Indomitables. Students go to church because of Sunday Indomie and Fanta. I saw a lot of shit, and it got me irritated. This is why I am not surprised by this news.

Did you mean indomie noodles? Small size, super pack or hungry man size? With ₦2000 naira in addition. None of those indomie is not worth more than ₦100.

Many students in the Universities are at the time this data was sent, didn't have the money to purchase data.

I'm not trying to say ₦100 could change their lives. I am saying it has been helpful to those who really needed it at that moment. And BTW, the cost of one Indomie then was around $80 for the small size. In today's economy, it will cost around ₦400. Not sure of the exact price, though.

Well, the government can do better. Set up free Wi-Fi. The cost of setting up a Starlink for 247 internet connections within the school premises is pennies to the government.

Giving students a 100 megabytes of data from the government is highly shameful and it's not something we should be defending the government in anyway even though none of the students can afford it as at a certain time, this will not in anyway better the lives of the students, ask yourself what will that MB do for you ?, you can't even open your browser with it before it will be exhausted and this is what the government is boastful of and broadcasting in on the news, honestly this is another height of humiliation from the government to the students.

There are more better ways to help the students if the government truly wants to and one of it is paying school fees and like you have said if they want them to have access to unlimited data then they can go ahead and install a free wi-fi in all the campuses for them than sharing 100 megabytes, it's such a show of shame on the federal government.

You don’t even need to remind us about how shameless our government is. From time immemorial, we have always known that our government is shameless. What I understand is that, our government do see every body finish, if not how will they come up with such plan, when I first read the news, I felt bad because I know it is just there way of campaign, bit it has also exposed that they do not care about anybody including the students, how will a government that mean well for it's citizens think shallow the extent that Tinubu and his friends can not remember that his economic policy has caused the telecom industry to consistently increase the price of mobile data, not even that, they also made it value less.

Till now I am still confused on the reasons whey FG want to distribute free 100MB. Do these guys think that we are still in  2008-2012 era? Whereby 100Mb was enough to download a lot of things. The things we are asking thses people to focus, they aren't doing it instead they doing something that we don't even care about.  We just have funny set of people in power, most of them don't have any idea about what being leader is.  We are lacking in every aspect as country, examples are Education system, Healthcare, employment, infrastructures, inflation and many more. I feel walking up to the person that suggested it, and give them a very big slap.  Just today the price of petrol has increased again, the government can't find solutions to it , it's data they want to be sharing.

Every independent day is supposed to be celebration of achievements in Nigeria, but instead they are given out 100 MB for students with Android phones, then what will they give to those who don't even own a phone. Not everything the government should post on air , and things like this is a signal that Nigeria government has nothing to do for the citizens at all. Nigerians are no longer interested in celebrating independence because nothing is making the citizens happy, and majority of Nigerians are not pleased with the system of governance we into, it is a government that thinks of only what they will achieve for themselves, and not for the country at large.

I think I misread it. I thought it is 100 MB just once, but according to the news, it will be daily. If it is daily, you are very correct because that will be 3 GB monthly. But why did the government not make it 3 GB monthly instead. I think the government only want to let it make a headline, but I will not be surprised if the government send the data in less than seven 7 days and stop. There is information hidden that the government did not let people know.

Yes, the federal government can give the data daily. It is not something that they can't do. Provided that those in charge of distributing the data don't turn into bad eggs.

Refer back to this suggestion I made earlier. I will drop it below. This is the best solution to avoid complaints from the student. Although it will only be beneficial to students staying on campus. Meaning you have to be on campus to use the network.

This is what came to my mind. Even schools have free WiFi that students can use, but they have to go to ICT for login password. That is how it was in the school that I went. If the government can collaborate with the school and make the WiFi better, it is better than 100 MB data that is not worth it.

Exactly. Independence should be about celebrating real progress, better living conditions, jobs, education and opportunities, not 100MB data that many students may not even be able to use. Government should focus on solving the bigger problems Nigerians are facing rather than celebrating symbolic gestures.

Reading through your posts, I wanted to not believe the authenticity of the news but after seeing the source which the news came from, it immediately made me had a change of thought and believed in the authenticity of the news. The federal government should stop publicizing things like this because it is a shame. This is what councilors are suppose to be doing and they get hailed for and not the federal government as a whole. Nigeria is not showing any good sign towards progress and just this type of news is amongst what makes one want to give up on the country, not having a better future and not showing any prospect of it happening.

This is laughable honestly, the government has reduced themselves to mockery because the strategy they are using to buy the minds of citizens against the upcoming 2027 elections is really outdated. How many internet page can 100MB open? There are even some times that I will have like 300 MB in my internet data and I will be finding difficult to browse because it is almost close to finish. I think the government should diverse another means of enticing and lobbying students into voting for them instead of this nonsense. Even if they start doing that, everything will end after 2027 elections.

Indeed it's a laughable statement, Nigeria government has absolutely nothing to give out, i hardly use 500mb talk more 100mb, well am not surprised about all this, election is fast approaching and this are one of things that we usually see during this period I also believe this won't be the last one we are going to see. My brother you know these matter, promising a lot without keeping the said promises is a normal operating procedure for politicians, of all things to do to help students, they're opting to help them with data and not even reducing the cost of acquiring data so that the students can now access cheaper data costs in order to lessen the burden of learning. Politicians make efficient promises, but ours here make dumb promises and with this we are not surprised when they don't have any positive contribution during their tenure.

Our government doesn't have shame at all and sometimes I believe these stupid acts are intentional to get the people talking and distract them from things of pressing concern. It's gotten to the point that I'm very sure they know what they're doing. The SAGA of releasing Tinubu's records is dying out and now they've projected another trend to keep people distracted. Their attitude is really smelling.

When we have brought ourselves so low for the government, what do you expect from them? I don’t blame any of them for pouring spit in our faces because we are the one who brought ourselves this low. The last time that MTN celebrated their 25 years anniversary, they gave people 25GB, but anyone who used to code to get the data that day didn’t enjoy the network throughout that day. MTN was very bad, so people couldn’t enjoy the data and they wiped everything after 24 hours. That shows that no matter how small the thing is, nothing goes out for free in this country.

Government is at it again, this is another strategy our president has brought to buy the mind of students just to vote him come 2027 election. What is 100MB free data? that a student of now can not afford. This is pure deceviness, we don't need all this right now, what the students needs right now is something that can help them build their life in future coming. 100MB can not put food on the table neither will it give them a better life. Let the president go and rethink what he is about to do, because it is a wrong idea.
