I hate the child board area on the Wallet Software sub-forum! It fills up the top half of my screen, and it's mostly useless. Almost all the wallets on there are obsolete, and their forums have close-to-zero activity, like only one or two threads from the past two years. And most of the most relevant wallets are absent from it, except for Electrum. The Electrum and hardware-wallet forums are the only ones getting any activity. Bitcoin for Android, Bitcoinj, Armory, Mycelium, all legacy wallets from the stone age. Admins, please free up some screen real-estate and consign these dead forums to the dustbin of the Archives forum! Might make sense to add a new sub-forum for Sparrow, bur not really necessary.

You can actually ignored those child boards so it won't show again when you visiting this board.

But yes, you are right, those child boards are so old and need to be replaced, there are lots of open source  wallet with lots of community e.g. Sparrow and blue wallet, that are excusively for bitcoin just like electrum.

I can see why those considered as legacy, but they still receive update.
1. Mycelium (Android version) last updated on May 15, 2026[1].
2. BitcoinJ last updated May 4, 2026[2].
3. Armory last updated on May 2026[3].

IMO position of those less active child board could be moved to bottom instead. Deleting those child board or moving those child board to "Archival" doesn't sound ideal either.

P.S. This thread is more suitable on "Meta" board.

I think sparrow is the only wallet I can think of that would deserve a place in this sub.

But it is so new, it was released just 2 years ago. I would wait the test of time before adding it. (lots of wallet fails over time)

Why did you not post this on Meta instead? I think Meta is the right board this supposed to be.

I think sparrow is the only wallet I can think of that would deserve a place in this sub.

You can correct me, but I have known about Sparrow wallet since 2020. I browsed about when Sparrow was released and I also saw August 29, 2020 while the project’s initial commit was March 22, 2020.

You are right, they launched about 2020 pre release version

BlueWallet could also use a board imo. Or whatever it's called now.

No sub boards for closed source wallets though. Not very useful to have any of those there.

It is not mostly useless though. Out of the 6 child boards only 2 could be considered dead and possibly needing to be archived: "BitcoinJ" and "Mycelium". The rest are active. Also I think some of the topics that needs to be posted in "Bitcoin Wallet for Android" board are being posted in its parent board "Wallet Software" instead otherwise it would be more active as well.

As to whether we need new child boards added (like Sparrow and blue wallet that some users suggested), the main criteria for that is going to be how many topics are being created about them. I don't think there is enough to justify the need for a dedicated board. For example by my count about 12 topics about BlueWallet exist in the past 20 pages of the Wallet Software board (each page has 40 topics so that's 1.5%).

You can see it on your profile Ignore Boards Preferences under the Modify Profile. You can check and uncheck those boards and child boards at your free will, and don't forget to click the Change Profile button.
You can use another forum feature: Watch board/ Unwatch board.

It's not the same like Ignore board preferences but can give some useful practice and the description says about its utility.
Quote
Adding a board to this list will cause all new topics posted there to be added to your watchlist automatically. You must enter the board ID, which is visible in the URL: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=39.0.

Quote
Note that you can't send merits to any thread/replies from those ignored boards.
After a board is ignored by Ignore board preferences, you can not see that board, can not merit any post in that board, can not see any post in that board at a user post history page.

But you can see and read that post if you know the post link or post id.
If I knew this is a link to your post, I can paste it to the browser, visit it and read it without problems.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5593804.msg67136260#msg67136260

All other posts in the thread are visible too.

It's same with a topic link that can be used to visit and read even I ignored meta board to have an example for this post.

That won't solve OP's concern, his main concern is, he doesn't want to see those child boards on this board. Adding those boards on his ignored list will eventually hide those child boards when visiting this board.

This is the best solution for what the OP wants at the moment, although the "inactivity" of such child boards never bothered me.

The idea of new sub-boards (or whatever this is called) for new wallets like Sparrow and Bluewallet is tempting. I think it's time to consider a renovation of the Child Boards.

I suggest creating something like:

Legacy wallets (not necessarily old, but ones that have been on the market for quite some time and are currently active or not)
> Bitcoin wallet for Android (Schildbatch wallet), Armory, etc.

BIP32/BIP39 wallets (with support for Segwit and other addr scripts type)
> Bluewallet, Mycelium, Sparrow, Wasabi, etc.

Multicoin wallets:
> Cake wallet, Coinomi, Stack, Unstoppable etc.

Armory is a wallet I would love to see back in active development again, completely revamped and with support for the features that the main wallets use today.

Yeah, i'll go with Sparrow and Bluewallet, just as i initially suggested. These two wallets are among the few that are strongly focused on bitcoin tech, similar to Electrum, and i believe they deserve a place on this board.

Most of the older boards, aside from Electrum and the Hardware wallet section, should be archived or threads there should be moved to the "Other" subboard.

Child boards can be dissolved but the inactivity in that particular child board has to be literally zero for a very long period of time to obviously prove that those discussions are not needed the same way for there to be a new child board the discussion needs to have a constant influx and they need to be organic too.

Check everyone on these boards you mentioned you'll see they've all had activity within this month that enough is proof that they are still very much important regardless.
