Anthropic claims Claude AI used for missile projects, global espionage

Anthropic AI claims to have thwarted multiple malicious operations using its Claude models, ranging from cyber-espionage and weapons design to mass surveillance campaigns.

On the conventional weapons front, the company alleges in a new report that it intervened in northern Yemen, blocking an effort to deploy Claude for missile guidance software, including a guided rocket and a long-range ballistic missile.

This gets to show how AI is going to be something that may end up being humanity's greatest enemy or threat. It all just looks like jokes, but with these wars happening right now, in a few months or years, someone is going to get very desperate, and they will weaponise AI.

This also makes me wonder if the same block could occur if the attempts were made from the US or the state of Israel.

My country has been fighting a long war against terrorist groups. Several reports show that these groups use chatbots to design explosives, fix or upgrade other weapons, and brainstorm ways to attack their enemies. Despite efforts by their makers to safeguard them from misuse, these jihadist groups are designing means to circumvent these safety protocols.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei recently published an article that highlighted the threats of AI and proposed that AI model development be slowed down and closely monitored by governments. As the industry evolves, we are heading to an era where digital nuclear weapons would be easy to develop.

We would never have heard the news if it involved the US or its allies.

Among the cyber security threat towards infrastructure and launch codes, i see few other problems that are even more likely. Probably even unavoidable.

And those are countless of AI accounts flooding the social media with credible fake news. That will happen faster then anyone could analyze or debunk them, with coordination we have seen never before. Not to mention all the fake users to polarize the atmosphere. Amount of fake news will create distrust towards media and government. That's enough to destabilize any government.

You may not have been affected by AI warfare, but the drones and weapons that were created and piloted by AI have already killed thousands.  These actors were stupid for using a well known AI system, but people already have access to open source local LLMs that they've trained and it's those people (some guy with a grudge) that may create an AI weapon that wipes us all out.

So it's not the future you are talking about, it's just one bad guy that got caught.

Let's also not be surprise when that era comes and perhaps come to think of its possibilities, the time should be behind us after all we've got the military drones which isn't just implemented with the basics of surveillance and logistics but also have them in the modality of being weaponized for military combats.
More so, with the evolution of Ai and technology, it's convince able that there're products of robotic elements that can be processed with the sensory of performing military operations.
If we can have the Ai combatting in the internet, days maybe coming when the technology would be made realistic launching combat operations at its dimensions. That's as long the internet remains accessible for research and uncontrollable against evils.

That might happen if the company had an alternative country where it could adequately continue developing its AI innovations. Otherwise, it will keep feeding Uncle Sam whatever is , including by offering up special terms-of-use standards.

I believe so. It's similar to how Uncle Sam is free to spy on whoever or whichever country they can, but it is a complete taboo if the other countries attempt to do the same.

And what anthropic is trying to do is something completely useless. The actors will rely on other less strict or self-hosted LLMs 

I am thinking of a time when robot like soldiers that are controlled by Ai are sent out to a town to kill people. The drones are just the beginning

If we justify having deadly weapons is only for the defence then we also need to convince ourselves that making deadly weapons using AI is also for the defense.

I am not surprise though, it just going to follow whatever we ask them to do, so still humans in control but it becomes deadly when it can execute the actions on it's own without any commands given at any certain point.

The thing is, AI can now get things done way faster than humans would do them. Its problem-solving is impeccable, and it's definitely going to help bad actors create what has never been thought before or at least what has been thought impossible to create. Think about innovating something like an atomic bomb or bio-weapon but on a different scale never imagined by humans. I know that time is going to come.

I think I saw this post by Amodei, if am not getting this wrong, it was a affirmation from a published statement from one of his employees highlighting the dangers of the fast progression of AI and the adverse effect it would have on human. With every new development that was suppose to help us, one country always finds a way to weaponise it

Alot of big tech CEO's reaffirm the claims of Amodei but of course China and even Donald Trump debunked this claim, what a pity
