The only reason why big brands continue to thrive in the market is that they never stop attracting new potential customers that will be emotionally attached to their brand. And through advertising which is proven very effective to maintain public visibility, big brands manage to keep their sales and profits on top of other brands.

Big brands are nothing without constant visibility. No wonder why such big brands are still very famous because aside that their brands are already established, they never stop making ads and promotions whenever possible.

There are modern psychological proverb "eye appeal is buy appeal". So visibility create the potential for sensoric marketing, the visual stimulation trigerring positive emotion and accecerate impulsive purchasing decision. We can see this phenomenon from a newly launched restaurant, many people usually want to try because when they see photos of appealing food and an aesthetic setting or atmosphere, the actual taste of the food becoming the last consideration. First impression has big impact on cunsomer assessment of product its self anf the other aspect. If everything or mostly look premium and attractive,, we automatically assume the product is high quality and worth to try.

I use to work for a solar big company and it was big that most companies were already in partnership with my Boss then and there's one thing that he was consistently doing is advertisement, we can travel to other places, go on Air, distribute flyers, mount billboards and most times he will even fuel the company car and tell the staffs to go out and tell people about his solar company with that the sales has always been on increase, there's something that big brands understand, you know the market is very competitive so if you don't fight to take your space, someone else will just like you said, is more like a war zone, if you stop another takes over.

Small brands would want to do advert when they probably have money but for big brands they don't do visibility to become big, they even become more bigger because they never stopped doing visibility for their business, this thing that people say that out of mind is out of sight, I think it's also applicable to business, once you don't talk about it constantly people will forget and move on to the next.

There's something about consumer's that most of these big brands understand, a lot of customers don't even buy best products, they just buy the most visible product they trust and the one they keep seeing all the time, big brands will always opt for visibility to tell their customers to never forget them.

The lesson for smaller businesses is simple. If billion dollar brands, brands everybody already recognizes, still refuse to go quiet, your business definitely cannot afford to either. Visibility is not something you achieve once and move on from. It is something you have to keep earning over and over, or someone else will be happily take the space you left empty
Brands spend billions because they want their brands in the conscious and subconscious of the masses, so whenever they think about wanting to eat a burger, they think of their brand because their attention goes to what they recall, and they recall what they always see.

I call this familiarity, so the brand that can spend more on advertising and marketing, the more they can get into the consciousness of the masses.

I ever read a book from George Collombo, an author from United states,
he said, many big brands spent million of usd, even spent more than half/50% of their budget for advertising show.

You get it ?
my question for now, is, now many people hold smartphone which can be used for streaming many streaming service provider,
in this time, is pay some big amount of money ads on tv still relaiable or wasteful from your opinion ?

It depends on the product of the company and where their customers are,  we are in a latest day technology advancement era where marketing needs to be off the TV and should be on the social media platforms. TV's are only watched by older generation in my country while the Genz uses smartphone to watch movies and other social media palava.

So if the products needs the older generation to be their customers, that's fine. If another product needs social media ads for more visibility, that's an added advantage.

It shouldn't come to a shock that they are advertising.
That is why they have a marketing department . that is what they are there for.
They are also a company that needs to make money to continue to be in operations, advertisment is one of those ways but not the only way. Yet it is important.
You should also note that each advert targets different population and serves different reasons, so they must continue to do so.

There's a theory researchers at the University of Chicago call "memory jamming". The idea is simple: people are not lacking information about Coca-Cola , everyone already knows what's inside the can. What they are lacking is a reason for the brand to stay at the top of their mind at the exact moment they feel thirsty. Advertisement is not there to teach, it is there to remind, repeatedly, until the brand becomes the automatic choice.

This is the most exact reason why established brands like Coca-Cola keeps a different variety of advertisement, from billboards to the television, and everywhere in the internet. Seems like the thing called memory jamming really works.

While new businesses goal is to have their brand exposure. Their ads normally runs longer than those that are established.
Nevertheless, advertising your brand does not end when it became well-known. It is a continuation and a vital marketing strategy.

A wise business owner will always seek for more visibility because that is what will make his business to cut across a wider range of people. One thing about big brands is that no matter the quality, people will always want to explore new things which means that your customers can stop patronising you not because you don't offer the best products but because they want something different which means that for you to replace those customers you are losing, you have to reach out to more people who will also find your products as new to them which will automatically convert them to your new customers.
You talked about how coca cola spends a lot on promotions and advertisements despite being a big brand for decades, that's same way gambling companies like Stake.com has been doing massive promotions almost in every platforms that welcomes gambling ads. They are already a big casino but it didn't remove the quest for more visibility through more marketing strategies.

When you talk about having to pay a huge amount on TV channels, I’m sure the one thing that comes to mind is the news channels. In some way, we underestimate the level of publicity these channels have got especially for those that are concerned on the runnings of the state.
However, without having to take your mind to just the news channels, I probably should remind you of the sports channels. Just like we had the World Cup televised on certain channels for roughly 2 months duration, the eyes of the world were all fixed here and whatever is advertised would surely be within sight and serve its purpose to the business.

OP you are comparing big businesses with small businesses. Just big businesses are constantly advertising doesn't mean small businesses should. They have to think of cost of so many things before considering advertising. I am not saying they shouldn't, all I am saying is that the way the big guys advertise, the small guys can't do that. They have to do calculated advertising or they may run out of funds to stand when storm comes.
I think small businesses should promote their products/services twice as much as big businesses. They don’t have the trust of the public yet, and the best (and less expensive) way to do that is social media. Create content about your business, you could either show your creative process or share challenges of being a startup. People buy from businesses they connect with. You’d surprised how many small businesses have built a cult following using this model.

Beyond advertising to stay visible to the public, brands advertise to create some kind of perception in people, which would prompt them to to see reasons to use the product. Brands can amplify a problem which many of their target clients can relate with, and present their product as the immediate solution to it.

I remember when I was little, Blueband constantly advertised their product as a brain sharpener for children and by consuming it every morning, you'll stay at the top of your class, be the best in sports and lots more. We mounted pressure on our parents to always provide it since they've shaped our perception of the butter accordingly and we believed them, and such visual marketing brought them massive sales

Honestly, I expected Coca Cola to sue him. I don't know why they didn't (or they did but it was off media). That Ronaldo advert was nothing short of witchcraft. He didn't need to have Coke on that table if he didn't want it. He had to shift those two bottles aside and then said Aqua as he lifted a small bottle of water. That action cost Coke around $4 billion in loss immediately as was reported. Coke should've sued him but then Ronaldo is a big name. Coke wouldn't want further drama that could worsen its case. I believe that was why it didn't pursue a legal action.
That's because Coca Cola did not have any kind of agreement with Ronaldo, so they can't really sue him.

They could sue the tournament organizers because those placements were made by them and they were benefiting from it directly. I just googled it bro.

Maybe there is another reason for this, but Coca Cola had nothing to fear. Instead, if they had any case on legal grounds, they could have sued him.

But what Ronaldo did is crazy and requires a lot of thinking by a person who is well educated, which he is not, so his heart said this is wrong and that is right, and he did it and fucked Coca Cola.

How much do small businesses actually earn to be able to set aside an advertising budget? Everything comes at a cost; the multi-million dollar advertising budgets of large corporations are in a completely different league from the few thousand dollars a small business might have. I am not saying small businesses shouldn't advertise quite the opposite advertising is important for them, too. However, they need to operate in a much more cost-effective, targeted, and measurable way.

Instead of constantly advertising on every platform like large corporations do, they need to focus on the channels that actually convert into customers.

I think even a small business that understands the growth business will want to push for advertisement, it is just that there are level to how advertisements are done for products. Take a look at brands like Adidas and Nike, for example, in the last World Cup, the two were known to be competitors in the business, they spent millions of dollars to promote their brands to the football audience. It's not like there are no other competitors between these two, they don't just have the money to splash on football players, which is why they seek other alternatives to push their brands.

The businesses that are small would mostly look for other means, look for models that are popular, some look for influencers that are into their brands, some make partnerships with billboards just to cut down their cost on adverts. Not necessary that a brand must do what top businesses are doing to get to audience.

Yeah, you're right. Maybe not suing Ronaldo but the organizers of that event who deliberately placed those bottles of Coke in front of him. It was a sinister move. Every action has reaction to it. They knew what they wanted to achieve, and it showed in the immediate capital loss for Coca Cola. What if a rival company paid the organizers to pull that off? It's possible.

Quote

He wasn't on it alone, that I can bet. That move wasn't an impromptu one. It was premeditated, and with the help of others.

So in short, this is like more of a trick that most works for the people.

Advertising does provide the biggest advantage on the part of the brand, not on the audience or consumers themselves. If they cease from advertising, aside that the people will forget or won't recognize them, they won't also meet their goal target and fail their business in the long run.

Now we can't question why even big brands opt for constant advertising because that becomes the life of their business, that saves them from future losses.

It's true which I agree with but there are times that advertisement could lead to hype of rubbish gaining attention in the market over a quality product. Some organisations and producers would rather spend too much funds in billions in the advertisement of their product than ensuring quality of it product. In otherwise, what am trying to imply is that sometimes advertising can be deceiving to the consumers.  Hence, consumers shouldn't just use wide consistent advert as criteria to decide for what choice of a brand comes to mind when seeking for a product, but through research and comparison.

What rival company can pay UEFA? How much can they even pay? Coke and Pepsi are the same brands, only advertised as different. I won't say it was staged by someone to put down by Ronaldo. The discussion is now not related to the topic anymore, so I will close it down by saying it was a random event, but if someone knew he would do it, then it can be contradicted by finding the fact if he ever sat at the stage like this while having Coke in front of him like this and he did nothing.

He wasn't on it alone, that I can bet. That move wasn't an impromptu one. It was premeditated, and with the help of others.
No bro, I don't really think he was involved in some shady business here. He can't be, or maybe that shows I am a fan of him and I don't want to believe it haha. Either way, no investigation means there was nothing.

Business is all about constant visibility, otherwise you will be left behind and become forever ignored by the public. Being silent in business will not make your business grow and prosper, a good and competitive brand should always make a noise in the market through highly impressive advertisements that target to create deep emotional connection to its target audience and customers.

The whole business market is crowded and competitions are non-stop. That is why you have to constantly make your brand known and famous so that people will always be reminded and prioritize it as their first choice, not an option.

In fact, many people are constantly starting new businesses in the market and the competition is increasing here. Even when a big brand gains enough fame, they do not stop their marketing but try to do better marketing. This is because someone else can create a bigger brand than them by marketing their similar products well. Business does not always follow the same principles and cannot stay ahead of the competition by using the same marketing policy. Therefore, big companies always create new marketing strategies so that customers always have good confidence in their brand and customers do not forget to know about that brand no matter how good the opportunity is.

Its also the case that if you own a global brand you really cannot afford to let it slide in any way,
there is too much at risk, the hundreds of manufacturing facilities, employees, transport that you
have already invested in, which has to be paid for while still making a profit.

Big brands advertising is for sure about 'reminding' existing customers that they love the brand
and promising new comers that they too will love the brand.

I soent many tears in sales and retail and the best saying I learned relating to that was

EXPOSE THE PRODUCT TO THE RISK OF SALE

it does really come down to that.
