This is another opportunity for those that are looking for were to invest their money without fear , although it's not a short term investment but long term. Minimum of 10 shares at #525 each which is #5,250 and it's about $4 . I will advise that you take this advantage. Should someone take this advantage to invest or not? Considering the fact that the dollar is still strong against naira it will return big although it depends on the activeness of shares in the market.
If this offer had come from any country other than Nigeria, I might have jumped at that opportunity.
However, I do not have confidence in any country like Nigeria.
Biggest issue with investing here is instability of Naira's value.
I checked online and found that back in 2015-16, you could get approximately 250 to 300 Naira for a dollar. Yet now, in 2026, it takes over 1300 Naira to get a single dollar. Consequently, even if share price rise in future, a depreciation in Naira's value would result in lower actual return for us. That is why I am skeptical about whether this investment would yield any substantial profit. Of course reverse could happen if Naira's value were to appreciate. That is precisely where the major risk lies.
No doubt, Naira has been unstable for the past two-three plus years now, and that is a worry for any foreign investor intending to buy the Dangote's shares right now, but since the beginning of this year, we've seen the naira gradually gaining more strength against the United States dollars and I guess that Dangote's refinery has been one of the major contributor to that, since it attracts foreign buyers of PMS from various countries that now has to change their currency to Naira and buy this product, thereby increasing demand for Naira.
