Do you know anything about the history of Nigerians as black slaves?

Recently, while reading a novel from literature, I came to know about some things. There I saw that Nigerians had a role in the arrival of the first slavery system in America. Many Nigerian people were forced to work in America's plantations or agricultural economy as slaves.

I want to know, during this slavery system, why did America force Nigeria like this and take them as slaves?
