What do you think about selling off some bitcoin for Dangote Shares?

Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has now offered an opportunity to investors to own shares in the company at N525 per share, and the minimum shares you can own is 10, which is very affordable to the common investor. Now I'm very sure that many of us are very familiar with the details of this new opportunity and with the very many hype around it I believe there will be the temptation to start considering investing in this Dangote's shares and neglecting your investments in Bitcoin. Now a question I would want to ask everyone is do you think it is a good idea considering the opportunity in the oil industry for you to invest some of Bitcoin in this IPO, that is sell some not all your Bitcoin off to buy this dangote refinery shares as an investor?

Must you touch your Bitcoin before you can make other investments? This is so annoying. Why must it be Bitcoin? Can't you use other discretionary income and gradually buy the IPO shares until you have enough of it?

It depends on how much you're investing. I even planned on making a topic about this, but since you have, there will be no need. I see a lot of people talking about investing in the stock and they are average people that can only afford very little. So let's assume they buy 20,000 shares, which are worth N200,000, the average good stock increases by about 10% annually, so that means they make a profit of N20000 after a full year. If it increases by 15%, then it's a profit of N30,000 after a year. So does that look like something that is worth it? I don't think so.

These kinds of stocks are best for people who have a lot of money. With N10 million, a 10% increase is N1 million in profit after a year. But also keep in mind that the percentage increase is not guaranteed. It could decline or increase by only 3-7%. I am just being optimistic.

If you have money lying around and you feel like risking it in something, you can buy buy don't expect anything from it. Just see it as something you want to take a chance on. If it works out, fine, but if it doesn't, still fine. And seeing your bitcoin for Dangote shares is not wise to me. There are better shares you can buy in stronger companies.

Another reason Bitcoin is better is that with Bitcoin, you can keep accumulating. With this particular stock, the public offer closes in October, but with Bitcoin, there is no closing date. You can keep buying N50,000 worth of Bitcoin continually till you have a significant amount of Bitcoin.

I'm not a fan of giving people financial advice but before you enter into buying Dangote shares you have to do thorough research on the advantages and disadvantages because it might seem affordable to buy dangote share but you should also know what will be your annual percentage yield when you invest a certain amount of money.

As for selling bitcoin to buy Dangote shares, that will be a senseless thing to do because we are not even in a bull season where you will say that you want to invest your profits on the shares. Except you are an old time investor that has made profits even though we are in bear market. But don't always have the mentality of selling your bitcoin to diversify into other investments. If you want to diversify you better use money from other sources while you leave your bitcoin investment untouched.

Is not a compulsory task that we must invest or buy dangote shares out of our investment holdings but I think is still a good idea that someone can quickly take advantage on. However, I consider it as a means of diversity and it's cool especially if we have nothing to do with our investment holdings. Because that is where the problem lyes, moreover this is not the first time people come across other opportunities they need to invest in, and for that reason being forced to tempered their investment holdings and along the line they start hearing a different story.

I wouldn't support anyone to alter his/her investment holdings all in the name of buying dangote shares. If their is other means of raising the funds in which you can purchase this shares with, then that's fine but scattering what you have been builting overtime all because you want to feel amoung is something I can't subscribe to.

Instead, of selling my bitcoin to buy one Fiat shares that can be affected by inflation in future, I prefer to hodli onto my bitcoin and allow it compound overtime. I bet you, the profit that Bitcoin will fetch you will be far bigger than any company shares in Nigeria. Though, everyone has own financial decisions.

The truth is, just as you can invest in Bitcoin with as little as 5k or 10k, the same applies to investing in the Dangote refinery. Investing in the Dangote refinery IPO isn't a do-or-die matter, just like Bitcoin investment isn't a life-or-death situation. As an investor, you only need to diversify your investments and invest what you can afford to lose. My advice to all investors interested in buying shares in the Dangote refinery IPO is not to sell your Bitcoin just to buy shares; hold your Bitcoin because better opportunities are ahead. Bitcoin has already built a better reputation, while the Dangote refinery is still a new project. Let's not make a decision because of the little profit we might have right now and lose a better opportunity later.

I know that when things like this happen, the price usually takes a sharp dump and can stay low for a long time before eventually recovering. I doubt how many people would be able to hold their shares long enough to see the price rise again. One reason I usually stay away from things like this is because they are often heavily hyped by the public, and sometimes that hype can be a way of taking advantage of people's money. A lot of people might be thinking about putting all their savings into it, and like you said, some might even sell their Bitcoin just to invest in the IPO. To me, that's completely wrong. If you have some spare money you can afford to invest, then go ahead. Otherwise, it's better to stay away than to sell your Bitcoin and end up regretting it later because of FOMO.

Is there anything logical about making a rash sell just to get another asset when you have not made a proper plan on why you are selling your bitcoin at this point in time? if your investment decision is about following trend, it means for any new asset that comes up, you will be ready to sell at a loss just to satisfy the feeling that you are doing with the majority are doing.

With a share that is equivalent to N525, you don't have to sell your bitcoin to buy like 500 shares if you are a serious person. The election is fast approaching and the effect of the election on local industries can be unpredictable and if it goes negative, it means there will still be a buying opportunity. i will rather look for another means where i can buy 500 shares for 262,500. if you can do so without touching your bitcoin, it is better off that way than selling your bitcoin to buy another asset that is just listed for the very first time.

I will give you an example of what I am talking about, someone said they bought a bank share in 2007 with ₦378k and now in 2026, they sold an made a profit of ₦2 million, now ask yourself, is that profit worth the waiting time? Meanwhile in that 2007, that ₦378k was worth about $3000 (₦126/$1), the person would have even made better profit if they held dollar instead of that stock they bought.

Imagine he invested same amount (₦378) on Bitcoin in 2009, then he would have made enormous wealth by now,  but with such investment, he didn't even make any profit. I don't think it's smart to sell your Bitcoin because you want to invest in Dangote stock.

This is a nice idea for those who want fo diversify their investmemt because Dangote share is a very promising investmemt. Even thougb I will not do this, I don't see those who wants to go that route as making mistakes because one should spread his investment in different sectors including oil and gas where Dangote a operating. However, care must be taken to avoid falling into the hands of scanners who are on the lose now regarding the shares.

Dangote predicted that N525 shares could get to N10,000 in the future. Although he didn't give a timeline for how it would happen, that's just a sketchy projection. If this happens in five to eight years, then it's not a bad investment since the profit might outweigh the inflation rate.

What I would not do is sell my Bitcoin at a loss because I want to diversify my income. I would prefer to seek funds from alternative sources to buy Dangote shares. Bitcoin is my major asset because of its decentralized nature. A government that is against Dangote can come on board and frustrate the refinery. Dangote is making so much money because he enjoys a monopoly. In a free market economy where competitors are allowed to fight for market share, Dangote refinery might not make much profit.

Bitcoin is a very great option for long term investment actually but for someone in 2007, I assume the stock investment was his best digital option at that time because atleast it has manage to yield him more than half his value after this long time because if he saved that money in the bank.. imagine what he’ll have right now.

Actually the Naira devaluation didn’t start rapidly until during the Buhari era, so the possibility of holding dollar for such long term is very slim because it was even kinda hard to find legit dollars to purchase during that period because you only find it in cash form, no much digital options.

The only investment that could have been readily available and highly profitable for him at that time would have been investing in buying lands, he could have bought a land that would be worth more than ₦10 million right now with that ₦378k in 2007.

Investing in bitcoin that early has a little chance of happening actually but it’s not wise to sell off part of your active investment especially during a bear market to fund a new diversification plan because of the hype and potential return, you’d rather invest following the known rule.. invest from your discretionary fund..
