These morons got caught primarily due to forging their return tickets thanks to their insatiable greed and this caught the eye of immigration officers who flagged them due to which their entire organisation collapsed. Proper bunch of filth for sure.
They primarily chose Indonesia due to its easy to acquire tourist visa, superb gambling environment despite it being illegal there and weak national currency. Happy to see karma getting served properly in this case.
I can't believe that this is the reason they got caught, that is just a crazy display of insane greed. People that are thinking reasonably when they are doing something illegal that needs to be hidden would never engage in an activity like this. You know that the basic is that you have to spend money for things that are needed to be safe. But it also makes sense in a way because I have almost never read a story where this kind of operation was run by smart people, they are usually not that smart they are just greedy or evil. You can earn a lot of money without being smart, but eventually something always goes wrong.
The riskier an operation is, more profitable it becomes. It's not equally profitable to run a gambling business in a country where the practice is legalized, because there will be lots of competitors looking for the same customers. Meanwhile, in a country where gambling is illegal, there isn't much competition, because people fear breaking the laws and being punished. On the other hand, the few who dare operating on clandestine schemes may raise the costs for customers who don't have another alternatives when looking for this activity, so they end paying for that.
It's similar to people who accept offers of entering with drugs inside their bodies in countries where there is death penalty for drugs dealing. They can make huge profit that way, but risks are high and severe.
This is not always true so I would not say it like that. Many criminals but also people engage in high risk activities that do not have profit maximization. This means that they could engage in a less risky activity as an alternative where they would make the same profit or even more profit than the one that they are doing right now. Things are not so simple because for that statement to be true, people would need to be aware of all possible alternatives and make the right risk management decisions but they often don't do that.
