Trezor Suite doesn't have push notifications for new transactions?

I recently used my Trezor (suite) to receive a transaction, and today I had the following trigger:

It is well known that Trezor Suite has an "Activity" tab containing sub-tabs: Notifications, System, and Release Notes:



The Notifications tab displays activity related mainly to new incoming or outgoing transactions, but, these notifications do not appear in the Windows or Linux system tray on panel/task bar, unlike in Bitcoin Core or Electrum, where a system notification usually pops up to announce the receipt or sending of coins. I consider this a very useful feature for wallets.

I also really appreciate notification sounds when a new transaction hits the wallet. This is common in wallets like Bitcoin Wallet for Android (the Schildbach wallet, the first Bitcoin wallet released in 2011), when the wallet detects a new incoming transaction, the app plays a sound of coins clinking / falling (kind of like a cash register sound, i can't explain it well). MultiBit Classic/HD also had a similar notification sound. I think in most such apps, the sounds were optional and could be disabled in the settings.

Nowadays, some wallets like Bluewallet only offer push notifications (without sound). The combination of a notification + sound was something I found very useful in older wallets, why has that feature disappeared?

Notification sounds are useful because users often wait for transaction confirmation to take a subsequent action. Often, an incoming transaction gets confirmed without the user even realizing it until later, with a notification sound, they are made aware of it immediately.

Most of the time I don't wait to see the tx confirming or I don't leave wallet opened in my device

Could the reason of not having real time notifications be a security measure to avoid having something running in the background? To minimize processes and keep only the essentials running?

By the way, what’s stopping you from installing app on your phone and tracking all the transactions?

I do exactly the same thing. I’ll add that, after some time, I might check the transaction confirmation - sometimes even via a blockexplorer - since I’m too lazy to connect the hardware wallet to my PC again.

Also, from a security standpoint, it’s not exactly wise to leave trezor suite open, even if the hardware wallet is physically disconnected, since some users on this forum have mentioned living with relatives and wanting to keep their HW device locked in a safe in a separate room under camera surveillance.

Everyone will feel more at ease if no one but you (or people you trust) can see your balance in trezor suite.

I personally don't see much need for such notifications but completely understand why others might want to have them. Maybe you can ask for the feature to be added with a new GitHub issue and see what the responses look like.

Whenever I am done with my Trezor, I just disconnect it and put it away, not waiting on the balance update and information about incoming transactions. I usually check back later. Sometimes I look up the transaction on mempool.space. Btw, mempool.space has sound notifications when a transaction confirms (when the block it gets into gets mined).

Trezor has that Lite app that functions as a watch-only wallet on the phone, but from what I know, there are also no push notifications or sound notifications for incoming transactions there.

Guys, when I use my Trezor to send or receive coins, I usually disconnect after finishing the transaction. The thing is, last time I needed to make another transaction and was waiting for confirmation of the funds.

Regarding suggesting this to Trezor, I'll do it through github, since I haven't received any response on their forum. I've tried starting a discussion there, but nobody ever replied to me.

Later I will open an issue on github, but the chances of them adopting it are low, as they probably have more important things to do.

About using BlockExplorer to monitor transactions, it's a partially good idea, because when using a public Block Explorer, you trade privacy for convenience. You'll never have a guarantee that they're associating addresses with your IP, but using Tor can lessen the impact.

A non logging VPN or TOR is the way around privacy concerns. If you want even more privacy, you can run your own instance of mempool.space for example. Self-host it. It supports various full node implementations.
Alternatively, you can create a watch-only wallet by importing your address in Bitcoin Core or Electrum and watch for the transaction confirmation notification there.

And many of the nodes in a box like umbrel or raspiblitz or MyNodeBTC have block explorers that you can install with just about zero work.

Unless there is an issue a lot of the time I really don't look after the TX is sent. If I don't get confirmation from whoever or whatever service I was paying then I might go back and look but most of the time it's a non issue.

Incoming, is a bit different since most of the time I am only getting small payments that go to a hot wallet. Larger amounts depend on the situation.

This is not that well know at all.
In fact they recently made total redesign of that whole thing, making changes with Activity adding separate sub-categories, and they added crap like Earn and Swap in menu.
They are forcing this crap on everyone without the option to disablw it, but I don't need push notifications and you should not keep Trezor Suite app opened all the time.

Yes, I used to do that a lot for that very reason, importing the xpub descriptor into Bitcoin Core to track transactions, or into Electrum (though with Electrum pointing to my own electrs server, otherwise, I’d just use Bitcoin Core).

Man, what I think is the following, unfortunately, some developers seem to think we users are retarded who need to be held by the hand so we don't trip, or they want to turn the software into a hub of features that won't necessarily appeal to everyone. Sadly, all we can do is make suggestions and complain, but they never listen if it's just 1 or 2 people complaining... and I agree with you, too.

But Suite has a far better interface and UX than that garbage that is the Ledger wallet app (formerly Ledger Live), that thing is a horror of show of UI, cluttered with useless options like buy and exchange plus ads for their new devices every time you switch on the App.....

I just remembered another wallet that has notifications for transactions. It's Blue Wallet. I think there are notifications for both incoming and outgoing transactions. I have to check the next time I use it. I do remember receiving notifications of confirmed transactions, though.

Trezor Suite is pretty good. I don't feel like I need to use Electrum in connection with my Trezor although it's easier. Trezor Suite provides what I need when working with bitcoin.

When it comes to Ledger, I never liked their native software and always used Electrum as the companion app for my Nano S. Ledger introduced automatic software updates for Ledger Wallet and you can't turn them off. When you open the app, you can either install the latest update manually or it gets installed automatically as soon as you close it. That's nonsense and I have never seen another wallet force updates on its users in that way.

One change that I approve off is Ledger removing the transaction history from the home screen. You now have a separate 'Activity' or 'Accounts' tab. I can't remember how exactly they named it. It might help in minimizing the copying of wrong addresses from transaction histories because you are now required to take a few more steps to view them.

I think this happens in many sectors. The most apparent one is probably in games in my experience. We have a lot of games who handhold their users heavily, at least in the beginning. At the same time, you can see many dumb stuffs the players did or asked that you kinda understand why the devs do that. Not sure why they'd do the same for HW apps though. As new as someone is in crypto, they shouldn't have that much trouble using the old UI in most apps (as long as the explanation is clear). I guess the key problem is that "clear" is a subjective standard in itself.

You could always tell when they're adding features that has nothing with user experience and more of a push for their services though.
