Three new sotries on ChainQuery, each built around the actual blocks and transactions with the RPC calls shown so you can rerun them on your own node.

The Inflation Bug (2010). Block 74,638: a transaction minted 184.4 billion BTC through an integer overflow. Satoshi's fix shipped in five hours and the patched chain overtook the bad one.

The Halvings. All four halvings walked through their coinbase transactions, plus the arithmetic that lands the series on 21 million around 2140. Halving five is at height 1,050,000, roughly April 2028.

The Mt. Gox Collapse (2014). About 70% of global volume at the time; 850,000 BTC announced missing, 200,000 found in a forgotten wallet weeks later, payouts finally starting in 2024. The on-chain trail from the cold wallets to the trustee's escrow.

If you were around for any of these and we got a detail wrong, say so in the thread. We fix same day and credit the correction in the story.

Between two Bitcoin block subsidy halving, there are 210,000 Bitcoin blocks. With the Bitcoin average block time is 10 minutes, 210,000 blocks take about 4 years to be mined by Bitcoin miners.

There are many Bitcoin halving count down timers with different estimating times for a next halving.

I prefer our own (obviously I'm bias, but hey, it's the best one by far!)
