Having a male heir not my priority says Dangote.

This news was reported by Punch.The Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has said having a son to inherit his business empire is not a priority, stressing that his three daughters are capable of taking over the Dangote Group.

Dangote stated this during an interview with ARISE News on Tuesday, where he said he believed one of his daughters could eventually lead the conglomerate.

Asked whether he could see one of his daughters taking charge of the group, Dangote said, “I think, yes, I can see one of them. I’ve been watching all of them, so I can definitely see one of the three that can actually lead.

Actually both male, and female children are very important in a family, and each other also have their own role to play. In the African culture, many family look for male children so that they can inherit their properties, and possibly begins from they stoped. However, when it comes to taking care, and inheriting of properties I believe anyone can do that, the only truth is that you should have someone capable of managing your investment when you are no longer there, and if it happens you have a female child who can manage your investment I don't think their is nothing wrong with that, and to me, even if someone have both male, and female children, and the female child is capable of sustaining your investment even when you are not their, nothing is wrong to hand your business empire to that female child for your fortune, and business empire to stand.

I think dangote is trying to make Africans come out of that myopic way of thinking that without a male child you have no one to pass your legacy to. It doesn't matter if you have a male heir or a female, like you said, it is about raising a child that can your investments. There are lots of women in society today that are great in handling business and investments even more than some men.

Gender doesn't matter when it comes to maintaining a family business, the most important thing is making sure your kids are properly brought up. The mistake that most wealthy parents make is that they don't teach their kids what they need to know about business, everything they want is handed to them from an early age and that's not supposed to be so.

There's a difference in the way we see children genders here and in western countries. Basically in Africa females were not seen as proper leaders actually ignoring that fact that there still exist a percentage of them that are actually fit for leaders. That aside stuff like these were the initial intent of feminism buh today's generation are misogynistic in contrast.

His company his belief his norm too... There's no guarantee that a male child will do better in business like his compared to his daughter so it's not a too deep topic.

I would not phrase it like anyone can do it, I know that you want to say that it does not matter male or female but it can sound a bit wrong. Many times inheritance is ruined by children because they can not handle what they are getting, property is one thing but with businesses it is even more complicated. So yes it is true that it does not matter at all if the person is male or female, what matters are their skills, personality, professional experience. If the children that inherit things are capable then it will probably end good, the sex of the child does not matter at all.

Yeah I have read about this being a problem in many places. It is different just how much of a problem it is. In some countries there is this kind of thinking but it is only with the minority, but in other countries still a large portion of the population believe such things.

A business built over decades deserves a successor that is chosen for capability not based on gender and leadership should go to the child that have the skills, vision and track record that will sustain and grow the business. Sometimes the child who has much interest in the business might even the youngest one, I think the best thing is to prepare all the children properly and allow competence and dedication determines who takes over the responsibility. In the end what matters is the goal to keep the company running not just to hand over because of some reasons that does not really affect the business.

Time has really changed. Gone are those days when a man relied on their male child to take over their fortune. The female children are now trained morally and academically to be psychologically ready to control wealth.

In African culture, initially we saw women as housekeepers, but not anymore. For a big personality like Dangote to speak out with such wisdom, men are beginning to see the male and female child equally.

The female child may not have the physicality of a male child. I believe the female child, if groomed, will be fully capable of taking over his company.
