This na the things wey I dey reason for this country Called Nigeria oo the country don dey build Refinery small small but this thing wey them build to me e never get effected for the country at all oo and I dey ask weather wetin Nigeria person do go fit help save the country at all?, I dey ask this question because anything wey Nigeria people do especially the rich people do no dey favour the poor and now the cost of fuel supply still dey high and even gas sef still dey high. If to say them do this Refineries to help the poor people life why e never reflect in the life of the poor or managing people of the country, up till now the people still dey suffer from high cost of livelihood.

Nigeria no need to build more refineries, that sounds like money laundering to me when we get refineries wey dey moribond and billions invested into rehabilitating dem were looted. The refineries wey Nigeria get dey for in Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna. If Nigerian government serious to rehabilitate these refineries, fuel price for cheap wella, instead dem dey enjoy de choppings wey dem dey get from importing fuel and running illegal refineries.

One “Nigerian person” can’t save a complete country with over 200m people, it is hardly possible and moreover the refinery is not charity, it is a business and a business needs profits.

The Dangote refinery has kinda have small effect on the price actually but it can’t solve the problem of the high prices alone, they also buy from NNPC before refining then sell and each process cost money. They also need to make profits from all these processes, so..

Nigeria doesn’t need to “build” more refineries, they need to start by making the old refineries functional, we already have the infrastructure but they’re not in good working conditions, the government aren’t making any tangible effort to restore it but if they do then it will greatly impact the fuel prices in the country.

During the last government, they said they’ll make those refineries functional, money was disbursed for the restoration work but uptill now none of them is functional.

This case of fuel price hike de far beyond what you are saying. It is not about opening the refinery, it is strictly business between them them for up, and you say if two eliphants they fight, na the grass go suffer, this is exactly what is happening in the oil sector of this country.

For this case, both the NNPC and the other business people involved in buying and selling of petroleium products also get their own, they are both selfish, and wants to maximize their profits.

The Dangote himself de selfish as well, he wants to be given every supply which is monopoly, while others that has already started the business of selling crude and buying the refine goods are already in the business, they will not want to lose their business just because Dangote is producing in the country, so they are all after the money they will make, the betterment of Nigeria is not what they are after, that is why once they are in the same page, we suffer the high price of fuel.

Honestly speaking, building more refineries will not help salvage the hardship and fuel scarcity that Nigeria is facing moreso it becomes useless if it is built and not in usage, what we truly need is a working refinery and that's where the Nigerian government has failed all of us because they are supposed to rehabilitate the old refineries we have and make it functional that way it will also create rooms for more employment of the citizens and lessen the high level of unemployment in the country, until that is done we will keep struggling as a nation.

It takes literally nothing for the government to fix the old refineries we have and make it work, instead they now prioritize exporting crude oil from here to other countries to refine for them and buy again from them, of what essence is oil in our land when we can't enjoy it as a country that has oil?, everyday fuel prices is hike and this is a oil producing country, it's pathetic.

We are too used to starting a project we can not finish and then abandon it just to start another project that we will eventually abandon. If our government at the different levels are serious, there are a lot of abandoned project that are economically relevant if brought back to life. most of the funds that are pushed into new project if used to make the ones that have been created active will to a large extent make the country more better and reduce out expenses on things that don't matter all that much.

Make the port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna refinery to start working again, set up strategies that reduces our dependence on imported product and invest heavily in seeing that we are able to produce what we are consuming and you willl see price of petrol and other essential commodities coming down real good.

You that is asking this kind of question, we already have some refineries on ground that are not functioning even till date. So what's the need creating or building more that may probably give this guy's (politicians) the opportunity to steal more money when they can just easily put those old once in order for them to start working again. Me and you know that till tomorrow this people didn't mean well for me and you and that's the raw truth. Because in much as I know them too well they actually know what they are doing, or are you trying to tell me they don't know? As a matter of fact they gain more in a situation like this and that's the more reasons they feel less concerned even as everything is falling apart.

No,we don't need additional refineries instead the government should fixed the old refineries that they have abandoned to rot. If we give them the go ahead to begin building a new refinery, they might abandon it later exactly as they did with those four old refineries so let them fixed the old refineries and make it start working at full capacity.. these politicians should stop taking us for fools because we are now familiar with those their old tricks.. they're looking for a way to steal money and Launder it out of the country..If they're serious about bringing the fuel price down, they will fixed those old refineries.

Just as the first comment in this thread suggested, rehabilitating the old refineries will help in addressing the issue of the outrageous unnecessary increment of petroleum products that we keep experiencing in this country, marketers and Dangote are holding Nigeria hostage and that's because, our government is part of them, Tinubu was faster than his shadows, he never looked at the problem of fuel subsidy from the position of seeking for a lasting solution, he was just after removing the fuel subsidy, so that the so called cabals will be prevented from sharing the money voted for fuel subsidy, perhaps he has his plans looting from that sector, which is why we are here today after his 3years+ in office, I do not think building new refineries is our problem, Nigeria has about 3 or 4 refineries, and the reason why those refineries are non operational is because, corruption is fighting back, the cabals will not allow it to work, as we know, Dangote has come into the game, he can also do anything to make things work in his own way, there are dirty part of these businesses we may not know, which is what I think is playing in the Nigerian petroleum down stream sector.

Building a refinery is not the main problem of our increase in fuel price, but failure of proper regulation and the willingness of the Federal government subsidizing it is the major problem we have today. Because even if we have 5 or 10 active refineries, and yet the people in charge of it are greedy and selling petroleum price in dollars, the same issue we are having will keep continuing. Hence, all it takes for the price of fuel to come down to the way it was before this current president Bola Admed Tinubu came into power is for the NNPC to start selling crude oil the same rate they were selling before at #100 to #150 per litre of crude oil, while the finished product which is fuel can be sold at #250 to #300.

Dangote refinery is not government owned refinery and it is working perfectly.

People should not expect government to do everything. Government prefer private industries to grow and tax them instead. Other rich people in Nigeria can follow what Dangote did and not only be complaining about the government when government has failed to continuing making the refineries operational.

More refineries means more emoluments and it will help against inflation to an extent. NMDPRA suspended the issuance of new petrol import licences in February of this year until there was a shortage. More refineries can mean Nigeria do not have to depend on importing the crude oil by-products.

One of the reasons naira has become strong is because of Dangote refinery.

Gbam! U don talk am finish. Make I add this small tin. We no need dose plenty build build at all. Remember say if I get money now, come say make I build refinery, na still my money, and na business I go do, and because say na business, I no go like to sell my product below the market price wey already dey market, no way. I go like add small so dat I go collect my own gain come become better big man, na so.

So na simple tin. Make our government put eye for the ones wey don spoil since, bring money do am well, them fuel price come down because by that time, we no need to dey go pay for import fee and all the gbogbotigno wey full inside to dey carry fuel from abroad come. Na very simple matter, na out government dey use us do kpan kpan golo. If them do the right tin, na small time e go just take, everywhere go stew. Na Dem hole us for blokos

You see the oil and gas sector in Nigeria is kinda oversaturated especially based on how much the government is dependent on it for revenue generation. The world is dynamically moving to other forms of energy but based on consumption oil and gas is still topping the chart which eventually brings us back to improper management.

Producing raw materials in such an enormous scale and later buying the finished product at a far higher price is straight up BS Now because of bias benefit they are barely giving dangote crude to refine.

As far as government isn't subsiding fuel building more refineries in the country won't totally save Nigerians from buying fuel at a high price because the people that are going to build the refineries are solely doing that to make profits and increase their networth so they won't sell below the price Dangote refinery is selling if that's what you think and believe more refineries in the country will fix the high cost of fuel. Just the way fuel stations in Nigeria shut down operations and pretend they don't have fuel when there's scarcity of fuel in the country in order for them to increase their pump price and sell fuel at a high price is what will happen if more refineries are built in Nigeria.

The problem of fuel price hike or cost is not centered only on availability of refinery but policy of government in controlling the fuel marketers, taxation is what all government uses to generate fund but have control as well subsidized commodity that citizens need most, like drugs,or medicine, fuel and light, because of such reduction of tax the price is always affordable for everyone, situation where subsidy is removed taxation on such commodity increase including the policy system where marketers influence their price against government price without sanctions make it look as if it's refineries problem. One major facts is we as nation lack maintenance culture a lot of companies has been sold to private sector as what was originally built by government without reason even if million fuel refineries is built without good maintenance and price control back by workable policies, what is currently facing the nation will remain same.

Your analysis,  explanation and conclusion on the possible causes of uncontrollable fuel price are correct,  even with the presence of 10 working refineries in Nigeria today the price of fuel will not still go down to normal.  In Nigeria today our leaders uses everything as an opportunity to enrich themselves and never think of the real reasons why they where elected into any political office.
In Nigeria today we have three non functioning refineries that over 18 billion dollars have been invested in for rehabilitation but still are not functioning not because we lack the required body to bring them back to good shape but because our leaders are not ready to become productive to the country, so even if more refineries are built they will still end like the ones we have now.

Building more refineries can help in reduction of fuel but crude supply matters, and also of the global oil price reduces since we are under opec. The reason why fuel price is high currently is because the federal government (NNPC) doesn't supply enough crude to Dangote refinery. We know how enormous it's capacity is 660kBPD , so he usually buy the remaining crude from outside. We know that the ongoing war between USA and IRAN has made the price of crude to skyrocket. So that why fuel price has increased significantly. If the government had agreed to supply the amount Dangote need in their initial agreement, then fuel price won't have increased like. NNPC are also claiming that they are giving Dangote enough crude, but Dangote Denys that.  He also made claim that Nigeria sell crude to him at an unreasonable price, so this is a private company, he has alot of cost to cover , from labour to machines. Their sole goal to make profit. Maybe if the government can supply more crude at a lower price, then Dangote can also reduce his fuel price.

Nigeria no need to build more refineries, that sounds like money laundering to me when we get refineries wey dey moribond and billions invested into rehabilitating dem were looted. The refineries wey Nigeria get dey for in Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna.

What you said is the truth, no need to build more refineries when the already existing ones are not functional and government officials has on countless times looted the funds that was allocated to rehabilitate them. It is no longer a secret that the government use those avenues for money laundering and as a matter of fact, someone like Aliko Dangote has been corrupted by politicians in laundering money.

If Nigerian government serious to rehabilitate these refineries, fuel price for cheap wella, instead dem dey enjoy de choppings wey dem dey get from importing fuel and running illegal refineries.
This is just something similar to the reason why Nigeria retailers are afraid of the Chinese coming to do business in Nigeria because those people that imports from China will have a bad market. If Nigeria stops importing petroleum products it will affect those influential people that have been using importation of petroleum products to enrich themselves for years.

At the beginning when dangote refinery was under construction we all thought that it will be to our own advantage when it comes to the show price, even then people were saying that it is not going to affect our price I still don't believe them just because I don't know much about it then but right now I can seat someone down and explain more. Building more refinery is not going to benefit us when it comes to the issue of price of petroleum, the only thing I will say is that unemployment rate will reduce, which I see that is the only advantage that you the citizen will benefit. The price of fuel is going up everyday and I'm just praying Nigerian government should be able to take care of that because it is getting out of hand.

The issue of fuel price has become worse in our country, and the politicians don’t bother is because they knows that it won’t affect them. Is only poor’s that it will affect and that is why all the politicians don’t bother since the fuel price begin all poor are raise their voices, and our leaders just over look like nothing happened.

A lots of people think that the remover of subsidies can favor us, but ever since they remove subsidies the fuel costs have been increasing without any change, as of yesterday i heard that the price has hit 1,500. So in this case should we be expecting the price to hit 2k per liter or what do we thinking will be next move of fuel price?
