Recently @JayJuanGee told me the most popular DCA calculators aren't working anymore. He suggested me to create a new one, and here it is. I think it was a nice idea, thanks JJG.

Good job..

Just a suggestion, can you possibly add future calculations along with the current preset?  Something like an accordion UI “Future calculation” the inputs ( price, date ) will be hidden by default so that the main focus will still be on what is currently existing..

And a little observation that doesn’t affect much..
I think the current date selection(start date )  or day(s) less than or equal to “purchase frequency” should equal investment amount.. only Daily works , the rest of the purchase frequency retains stale data when you update investment amount.

Well done.

Open for suggestions!

Thanks Bitmover.  I like it.  It might be good to have a name, such as the Bitmover Bitcoin DCA Calculator

I think that the calculator should have both a start date and an end date - otherwise the tool is assuming BTC DCA accumulation from the start date until present, yet there might be some guys who accumulated (or could have accumulated) bitcoin within a timeline such as $100 per week between January 2016 until January 2021.

Another thing is that if you want to be really fancy, and offer some feature(s) that no other BTC DCA calculator has so far offered (to my knowledge) is to have the ability of the user to calculate more than one timeline of BTC accumulation.

So for example the guy has three different kinds of accumulation and had changes in his budget.  He did something like this:

1) $10 per week between January 2014 until December 2015

+

2) $50 per week between January 2016 until April 2020

+

3) $150 per week between May 2020 until present

Does this above guy have enough BTC after more than 12 years of BTC accumulation?  Sure, he can see that he had started out in his bitcoin investment in a whimpy way, but with the passage of time, he became more aggressive, even though the bitcoin that he was buying were costing him more and more in dollar terms.

Maybe the guy could better assess if he has enough BTC (or more than enough BTC?) if he had a link to JJG's sustainable withdrawal tool or to JJG's fuck you status chart so that such guy might be able to figure out if he has enough bitcoin to support his targeted income level, or if he might have a target amount of BTC (in terms of dollar value) that he would like to reach in the future (if he had not quite made it) in order to feel that he could start to sustainably withdraw BTC in the future?

Good job..

Just a suggestion, can you possibly add future calculations along with the current preset?  Something like an accordion UI “Future calculation” the inputs ( price, date ) will be hidden by default so that the main focus will still be on what is currently existing..

Well done.

DCA tends to reflect the past rather than the future, yet bitmover might want to be creative in terms of some kind of a future projection tool, and surely the JJG fuck you status chart that is almost ready to come out could provide a bit of a vehicle for such future projection.  Perhaps?

1) Self-Custody is a right.  Resist being labelled as: "non-custodial" or "un-hosted."  2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.  3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

This one works too.. by default it will just retain the current date [as end-date], which can be easily changed instead of fixed current date as end-date.

For multiple timelines, permit me to suggest a different “advance” section on same page or maybe two pages now, while still maintaining the current simple to navigate implementation because some visitors see extra features as complicated even when it’s not..

DCA tends to reflect the past rather than the future, yet bitmover might want to be creative in terms of some kind of a future projection tool, and surely the JJG fuck you status chart that is almost ready to come out could provide a bit of a vehicle for such future projection.  Perhaps?
That’s true..
JJG fuck you status it is, then.

Thank you. I didnt understand your point. Did you notice some bug when the frequency is not Daily? Can you be more specific?

Yeah, this could be something to work on the "fuck you status" tool. As the future price of bitcoin is unknown.

I think what he means is, when you choose the duration, like from the start date to the end date, and if we keep the end date as of today, and start date from this week, like I chose in the image, the numbers don't change at all if the frequency is set to week. Unless we change it to daily, and then the results change.

So it can be a bug, depends on how you see it, and what can be the possible solution for this? Maybe you can enforce us to not select a date from the same week when we have set the frequency to week. Same goes for month.

Or whatever solution, suits best for you.

I loved the site, TBH I don't usually use these calculators. I don't even want to calculate how much I have accumulated. I am just accumulating because I don't want to waste money haha so I just put it in btc and not think of it. I don't calculate the profit or loss, but this tool is good. Like, it gave me an idea of how much I might have invested, but as Promise suggested in the first post, maybe another option where we can choose the future price over time. And then we can see at this price, let's say $250k, how much we could earn.

This can increase the bounce rate as well.

Of course, our own personal bitcoin performance is likely traceable by what we actually did (to the extent that we had been keeping records), and so using a DCA calculator frequently helps us to consider what we (or anyone else) might have had been able to do, if they had followed a certain level of bitcoin investment over a certain period of time.

Frequently, I will use these kinds of calculators to show some forum member where they would have had been if they had been accumulating bitcoin since their forum registration date or some other date that might be relevant to our discussion, and it frequently works quite well if we might choose to show dates that are 8 years or more into the past and to show how it could be quite difficult (at least historically) to have had been able to beat a bitcoin accumulation strategy that had involved ongoing accumulation as compared to how guys had performed who had been putting their money into trading or even into shitcoins during the same period of time.

Many guys are still struggling after 8 years or more of performance, yet a guy who had consistently put such money into bitcoin rather than into trading and/or shitcoins, would have had likely put himself into a decently good position given the amount that he had ended up investing into bitcoin and the quantity of bitcoin (or satoshis) that he had been able to accumulate over his investment timeline.

Thanks to Bitmover for being able to develop the site. It's quite helpful to simulate how DCA performs over time. So people no longer have to calculate manually --- just enter the amount of money and the date they want, and it's calculated automatically. The results are also super fast. +1

I think this is not a bug. If you set the frequency to week, when you change the day the numbers shouldn't change. Only if you change more than 7 days.

If I change the months for example, it works as expected.

Take a look (Video expires in 2 days)

Yeah… that was it, same thing happens when both start and end date is set to the current date [i.e today], switching the frequency to bi weekly and monthly also does same.

BUT it doesn’t really affect much like I mentioned, since most users will select a wide range..it could only be a thing when they do that mistakenly and end up getting stuck .

~
It seems it’s just picky and affects only combination of both current month and year[try 15 and 16 September 2026, for start date]. Test it by changing the investment amount, the portfolio value and likes would gets stuck with the previous investment amount data.

Hey, you just decided to improve your site. An interesting tool.
I think it would be a good idea for you to try sometimes to share it on Reddit in the appropriate sub.

i found it very hard to engage there.

This is actually useful for the community. A working DCA calculator will makes it easier for people to understand how consistent buying could have performed over time, without relying on guesswork.

I encourage members to test the calculator with different DCA amounts and time periods, share their findings, and point out anything that could be improved. Because tools like this become more valuable when the community actively tests and improves them. Nice work, and credit to JJG for the idea.

Hey, you just decided to improve your site. An interesting tool.
I think it would be a good idea for you to try sometimes to share it on Reddit in the appropriate sub.

Probably forgot to add a link to the page in the navigation menu at the top.
I am also visiting the site after some time, and now it looks better. I don't even know what has changed because it seems new to me. I was not even aware of some tools already being there.

The issue you are seeing is not universal, because I can see the DCA tool listed in this tab. But thanks for reporting bro, it shows this also can exist.

Frequently, I will use these kinds of calculators to show some forum member where they would have had been if they had been accumulating bitcoin since their forum registration date or some other date that might be relevant to our discussion,

to have had been able to beat a bitcoin accumulation strategy that had involved ongoing accumulation as compared to how guys had performed who had been putting their money into trading or even into shitcoins during the same period of time.
I can imagine one thing about how long it must have taken the OP to make this tool just to help people realize who were or might still be investing in alts and other useless things instead of Bitcoin, thinking they lost the time, but they have not.

There is still time, and what they could have made if they had done these calculations a long time ago.

Thanks for introducing this tool bitmover and thanks to you JJG, for recommending him.

Well done.
This is indeed a great job done well and from visiting the link, it's quite simple to understand even for those newbies or older users who use other more complex methods to calculate their accumulation so far.

I do hope however that this new design won't somehow get infested with ads and slow APIs or fail to somehow along the line stop updating historical price data.
Also, the date lines shouldn't fail to include the shifting calendar dates that includes a leap year. Just my little addition though but I love the simplistic nature of the design interface for sure.

Recently @JayJuanGee told me the most popular DCA calculators aren't working anymore. He suggested me to create a new one, and here it is. I think it was a nice idea, thanks JJG.

A brand new DCA-Calculator created specially for bitcointalk community

Open for suggestions and bug reports!
Great work bitmover.

My suggestion is simple as it is available on another website for DCA calculator.
https://costavg.com/

You can add exchange fee % from some Tier 1 exchanges, and use it for your DCA calculator.
That site has a table for % change from start of DCA practice, net % change, and % change for each round of DCA practice.

Exchange fees can be taken from some sites.
https://exchangewar.info/
https://www.cryptowisser.com/exchanges/

If you can add it to your DCA site, it will make yours more informative and helpful.

Actually, I'm very impressed with this tool! It's actively maintained, and keeps shipping updates based on feedback (end date, caching problem, etc) almost in real time. I also love it because it's beginner-friendly but not so dumbed-down that it skips the opportunity to go deeper for those who want to dig further into the numbers.

If I may, I'd like to offer a few suggestions, hopefully it will help:

Sats-based DCA. Currently, everything is fiat-based (inputs like $100/week). It would be nice if users could set it using sats too (for instance "buy 100k sats/week") as many of us now think in sats, not dollars.
Drawdown statistics. Besides indicating the final profit/loss, it would also be very useful to be able to see the maximum drawdown during the DCA period. I mean how far into the red did the portfolio go? That kind of number gives a much more honest picture of what it truly takes (mentally) to stick with DCA long-term, rather than the happy ending number.
Multi-currency support. Since this forum is rather international, calculating in EUR, IDR or any other currency (not just USD) might make it much more useful for non-US people who want the numbers to actually relate to their own situation.

Oh by the way, great work, bitmover. This is a solid addition to the community's toolkit. Wink

Great job (OP), thanks for creating this tool.

Although I have never used a DCA Bitcoin calculator like this before, I did some calculations here and I regret the results. Although I learned about Bitcoin very late, if I could invest $50 every month from then on, I would have invested about $2500 and seen a profit of $1800+. Smiley

But this tool won't work for those who don't use the same amount of money every week or month to buy BTC, right?

Yeah, this tool can show you interesting stats as JayJuanGee suggested:

You created your account in 2023-05-06. had you invested $50 weekly since then, you would have now 0.15BTC which is $11,000.

I started DCA in the last quarter of 2022, accumulated not too much due to finances and stopped accumulating at $40k in 2023 and then booked half profit at $90k and some later but still holding some of it, the profit that I sold I could not resist the feeling of holding fiat. I was so excited about the alt market that I invested and lost 90% of it, still holding those alts in the hope they will recover (I don't do leverage trading).

This has taught me a great thing, and that's how I already know how much I could still have because in 2024 my plan was to accumulate only $10k but I failed that target due to this issue but now my target is higher and I am not going to focus on anything else, alts are off book. Even on other forums I created a topic to average the prices of 12 alts that I bought with just $1k but then I said leave them as they are, let's put $1k in BTC although $1k is the minimum, I needed at least $2k.

The point was, I already know how much I would have made if I had not made that mistake, but now I learned the lesson obviously the hard way even if I read it so many times. But I did not calculate the profit I might make since the day I joined, but the day I joined, I was not involved in BTC or anything, I was blank, had no idea what crypto was, joined bounties and then started joining article campaigns through which I learned more about crypto and eventually started understanding about BTC when I came to realize I can engage in discussion here haha, long story it is but I gave you the short version. So my rule is simple, don't calculate, I use my short memory to hold as much as I can and I don't even know how much I have now, this calculator gave me a rough idea but I am sure I have more.

I think this is not a bug. If you set the frequency to week, when you change the day the numbers shouldn't change. Only if you change more than 7 days.
Understood.
