Gambling ads are one of the main issues we have today about gambling addiction and a lot of people can agree to that fact. But another thing that is important is that people should know when something is looking too good to be true, as an adult you should know the whatever is presented on the media about gambling will only show the positive sides of it and not the negative aspects of it. Gambling ads will always be there, people just need to develop their mindset so they don't believe such things. What should be completely put under control is fake gambling ads probably to get people signed up on fake gambling platforms, this is what causes more harm.

Gambling ad is a big problem to gamblers because it gives them false hope that they can hit a life changing amount and that will lure them into gambling even after losing. The ads aren't portraying the real picture of gambling which is misleading. Both the gamblers and non gamblers are been affected by gambling ads because for a non gambler, it will give him a reason to start gambling to make profit and for gamblers, it makes them chase their losses.
I don't think this is true, but gambling can influence some gamblers because of their understanding of it. Some gamblers are very greedy; they understand gambling as a game of luck. They see the instructions from gambling companies about gambling responsibly, but still ignore them.
Gambling companies have their own role in the effects on gamblers, and gamblers are also to be blamed for how they approach gambling. Some gamblers simply decide to take the risk of making money by any means.

There's a lot more in the link.
But I think the question will remain: Are the gambling advertisements really causing harm or not?

We have data and studies to prove that it can harm people who are not properly guided on the right way to gamble, so some casinos are irresponsible in how they advertise their platform.

They make it appear that winning is easy, and you can start with free money, so it's actually irresponsible marketing that causes harm. Many countries do not regulate gambling ads, so it appears misleading and unsafe.

But I think the question will remain: Are the gambling advertisements really causing harm or not?

The negative impact of gambling occurs because of the gambler's own habits. Exposure to gambling advertisements does have an influence on gamblers who might be underage. They are not yet of the age to gamble, but we can see that currently they are also accessing gambling.
Gambling advertisements may not be completely banned, especially in countries that legalize gambling. It is better if the advertisements are managed, if broadcasted on television, it might be better to regulate the airing time and also the duration. Advertisements on social media might be difficult to restrict.

They are causing more problems for players. It's not even something which should be up for debate, but at the same time, gambling ads are the only means to get their product out there to be known by gamblers.

The major problem to me lies with how those promotions are being run and the type of information those advertisers are passing out, especially social media promotions, which have the highest risk. You see casinos promoting themselves as an easy and safe place to make fast money, which is exactly the opposite of what an average gambler gets.

Aside from the proposed opinion to ban all illegal gambling promotions, I also think there should be stricter regulation for gambling-related ads; they should pass some verification and be limited to the type of promotion they ditch out for the sake of vulnerable youths and underage people.

One important thing that people also overlooks in this case is that, the damages caused by the ad can still continue, even after the ad is gone. When people repeatedly get exposed to these kind of ads, it can gradually make them perceive gambling as a normal way of solving financial problems, particularly to young players. That’s why it’s crucial to regulate the message that these ads carry and not just where and how often the ads are allowed to appear.

Short answer is Yes, gambling ads can harm anyone and it can influence someone to go and try gambling.

But I have a debate with this from a friend and my arguments is that it depends on who is reading the ads. If you are that person who easily tempted and succumb to it, they it will harm you.

However, there are individuals who are not going to be affected by this ads, and will just laugh it off.

So it will only affect those persons that are vulnerable and weak.
I believe if there are no ads people will still look for a way to still gamble. I dont think gambling ads are the problem but the mindset. Gambling ads can be banned but the mind still remains the same and gamblers will still gamble the way they likes based on their mindset.  Since even if ads are taking away some gamblers will still want to gamble irresponsible and some underage would still want to gamble and get addicted, gambling companies and the government needs to do more in the awareness of gambling education,  this will still make a good impact to combat irresponsible gambling.
Of course, they will definitely look for a way and continue with their gambling activities, especially those gamblers that normally have a mindset of doubling their money overnight. It is very simple to understand that nothing else can stop these particular people from gambling; that's just the truth.

Gamblers are meant to have a very good mindset when gambling, so that In case you come across these ads, you would be able to make your own decision, because they can never force you to gamble on their site.

Which of Frankolala statement are not in support of, what he said is right, some ad can be changed the narrative of how some gambler think about gambling, try to understand that not every gambler has the ability to stick to what gambling represents, gambling ads make it seem like, once you gamble, you must win, which is fallacy, I understand that it is marketing strategy, but what about those that has no clue about gambling, how do you think that they will process such information?

They are causing more problems for players. It's not even something which should be up for debate, but at the same time, gambling ads are the only means to get their product out there to be known by gamblers.
This is a rhetorical question. Gambling ads play a significant role in the number of gamblers in society. At times I forget about betting after a losing streak. What reminds me of gambling is gambling Ads on TV. It influences me to go back to gambling.

Gambling ads are not directly the issue. Before, gambling ads used to be done responsibly, not invading the user experience when using our smartphones. Lately, gambling ads are all over the apps we use on our phones. Gambling ads are on educational websites, movie websites, health website. This is not how it's supposed to be. Ad companies are getting it all wrong.

But I think the question will remain: Are the gambling advertisements really causing harm or not?

Not directly causing harm to anyone, but it is a start.
Have we ever wondered why ads still exist and are still in demand for any form of business? Well, because it is a very effective marketing strategy. Now, if the question is, do gambling ads entice gamblers and potential gamblers? Most of us don't have any idea if they do, but the fact is that a lot of gambling ads are popping up everywhere nowadays says a lot about how effective they are in encouraging people to gamble.
Again, gambling ads do not necessarily cause harm. Harm begins when a gambler spends excessive time and money with his gambling habits.

I know there are a lot of soccer fans here. Is this true?
Yes, it doesn't need to be the World Cup or from TV ads. Being a soccer fan, a core fan who loves the game, is already many steps further than a non-soccer fan to bet on sports betting. The problem with stopping addiction and gambling harm is that you cannot help everyone, no matter the pressure that is used in controlling gambling activities, gamblers and industries will definitely find loopholes to handle their promotions.

Gambling casinos were removed from Premier League front shirts, made smaller, and moved to the side of the jersey, whichever new pattern isn't going to do much better. Anyone with sportsmanship is already exposed to gambling, banning gambling ads won't resolve the issue.

Yes. It attracts new gamblers. New gamblers can become addicts. It can ruin their lives.

That's not my position - it's the idea that gambling advertising causes harm. It's the same as restrictions on alcohol and tobacco advertising.
As for me, I don't care. I buy alcohol not because it's advertised, but because I like it. I don't buy cigarettes. I play at casinos I find on this board and that I like. For me, nothing changes with ads or their restrictions.

We have had a similar discussion before but in that subject, it was another country fighting to ban gambling ads on TV and all social media, and based on what I said in that post, this kind of approach might not actually be the best solution to prevent gambling harm because there are a lot of people who are already stocked on the addiction and stop simply because gambling ads is banned, such people needs another kind of help. Banning gambling ads can only prevent some of the non gamblers from becoming gambling addicts but it can not stop the already exiting addicts.

There's a lot more in the link.
But I think the question will remain: Are the gambling advertisements really causing harm or not?
YES, and this is the reason as to why.

Constant exposure to gambling advertisements especially to those younger people make them feel that gambling is a "normal" thing to them despite of it not being one. When you see something wherever you are, you see it as a normal thing therefore, you don't see it as something that's dangerous. Also, gambling advertisements are targeting specific type of people especially those online gambling ads. There's a thing called "ALGORITHM" where their ads are being pushed towards like-minded people.

It causes harm just like with cigarettes, and while some might say that "We can make our own choices", we can't deny the fact that these gambling ads are designed to attract people to gamble. As much as I'm saying this though, I will always say that I'm not against gambling, but I'm against the people who has the wrong mindset when it comes to it.

We can't holistically say that gambling ads can harm. We can safely posit that it can urge people to try it, just like every ad does. It's not generic that everyone who goes into gambling comes into addiction. It depends on who lacks self restraint.

As for the committee calling for its ban in the UK, perhaps it doesn't know how much gambling taxes benefit the government as revenue. It's just like tobacco companies, gambling sites can't go away. They're benefiting the government.

I think gambling advertisements do not cause harms but it is where it is positioned that has the possibility to cause harm.
For example
advertisement in school environments including but not limited to colleges, vocational centers is just diabolical and can cause harm.
advertisement in buses, trains, airplanes including their stations can also cause harm.

So in my estimation, the location posted is one of the places that determines the harm gambling ads can cause and not the harm itself.

Some gambling advertisements are regulated, and there are always warnings about the risk involved in this activity. I have some reservations concerning how influencers promote casinos. They make it look like using their promo code makes it easy to win. Some of them even show off fake wins just to give gamblers false hope.

Another concern is that some of these influencers are involved in content that children are interested in. This can expose underage people to gambling. I support that the activities of these influencers be regulated.

Outrightly banning gambling ads has some benefits, but the goverment should also consider the demerits. Adopting other measures to control adverts that expose underage and vulnerable people to gambling should be considered.

Yes banning gambling adds will reduce gambling harms. Gambling advertisement don't just make and encourage individuals to gamble, it also reminds those trying to halt to revisit. All being recognized I do believe that gambling advertisement is a major factor that contributes to gambling harm, although banning it will not totally eliminate gambling harm, there are also other factors like easy access to gambling sites, bonuses, promotions etc..that still make gambling engagement and harm significant, so just to stop gambling adds will not stop it but it will definitely reduce it regardless.

Meanwhile there should be provisions for folks that will loose their job's, the fact that they will have no jobs will also be a reason why they will want to gamble, that what your expected form an ex casino worker of cause.

I don't really know how they expect the casino to get their clients when they are not allowed to post ads. Are ads really the case of gambling problems? Weather they take it down or not, gamblers have their way to locate casinos regardless of ads or not. One thing I know very well is that except we no longer have the internet, casino will always be at the reach of every gambler who has an urge to gamble. Gambling ads are not in any way the issues here but the gambler ls themselves. When you are not able to control how often you gamble or relate with gambling sites, you will still have issues with your gambling life..

If they just stop licensed ads. Even so illegal operator will still be able to reach user via social media, affiliate or online channel. so major part of this problem will still remain.

afaik UK government has also consulted on specific legislative change to ban unlicensed gambling sponsorship and advertising.

I also read the new follow up report from the House of Lords today, in which they recommended comprehensive ban as most effective policy option.

The silly part is that committee stated they found no strong evidence to support the claim that restriction on licensed advertising would drive customer toward illegal market. Tongue

Banning gambling ad is just a kind of public stunt from the government to make us believe that they care about us, but banning ads is not helping because it makes the advertisement a little harder not impossible just like how many countries already have ban on promoting tobacco and alcohol but still brands to it anyway.
