Before government should totally shutdown gambling in Brazil, they should actually think about the negative effects of banning gambling in Brazil,
What they are trying to solve is the negative effect of gambling, so banning gambling its expected that it will reduce addiction. ( there's no other negative effect, more negative than what they are trying to solve).it is fine that most of the people are since gambling as a means of making one useless but the government doesn't think that if they should finally restrict gambling in Brazil or any other countries, the government will be encouraging the gamblers to break the rules governing the ban or the same time, it will increase a number of criminals in the country because i see gambling as a means which erase crimes within the neighborhood, so the idea of the Brazilian government trying to ban online betting and restricting sports betting will rather curse harm than good.
Government already knows that even if they totally ban gambling, some people will still find a way to gamble, they are not blind to that. But their main purpose is to eliminate or at least greatly reduce gambling because overall they believe it does not have a good impact on the people. We worry that others will still gamble, but that's not really a problem because the government already accepts that they cannot stop everyone.

Honestly no matter how strict they decided to be with gamble, the truth is; gamblers will always find their way around it, least they do not know, they should have a rethink about this their decision before finalizing it, because now it feels like they are only going to stop gambling but unfortunately they are also going to face the consequences because I am sure in one way or the other they also benefits from it, whatever their reason is they should be careful as not to pave way for illegal gambling activity with this initiative I know they are doing it to prevent underage access to gambling but it will really not be possible to prevent.
The idea that gamblers will always find their way is there to gamble but that does not give them the full leverage to gamble with the free mindset that they will not get restricted by reputable casinos that will want to respect the law of the Brazilian government to enforce total ban on gambling activities from their region. Also casinos may be sanctioned or taken to the court for giving gamblers from their region the ability to use their casino without restricting them and preventing them from gambling. If the Brazilian government provides a total ban on gambling and it's activities, then those casinos who will illegally gravy access to gamblers to gamble using there site will be penalized by the government if caught. Though, if this happens, it may give rise to illegal gambling because many citizens are already gambling addicts that cannot go a day or week without gambling. I think the government wants to carry out a good course, but the method becomes the problem. I don't think that an outright ban on gambling will solve the problem permanently. It could lead to secret gambling, and few other little social vices that may be cause some problems since those who see gambling as there solace are no longer allowed to have peace with there hobby. On a second thought, the government wants to help reduce excessive gambling habits and addiction that will help it's citizens. But since they have taken some money and given these gambling companies license, I only think it's normal if they go for dialogue to pick out possible ways that will reduce gambling addicts but still allow gambling

Government should instead educate people that gambling is not suppose to be their main income source. If a person gamble for fun, then gambling should not be a problem. That person only must be taught that excessive fun is no good either. Imo problem of gambling in Brazil and in other countries is that people see it source of income or financial problem helper.

To me, it's just a political stunt, given that Brazil has presidential elections coming up in the next few days. It's really hard to actually ban betting companies. Like you said, they sponsor several clubs and multiple TV networks these days, meaning it's already part of the budget for tons of companies. The lobby for ending this is just all talk from a convicted ex-con who is only looking for votes, always with the same old fairy tale about helping the poor. Bottom line, I don't think anything will come of it.

Well, yeah it wouldn't be right to assume that full ban mean gambling will simply disappear. However I think government likely isn't aiming to eliminate gambling entirely. Instead it seeks to reduce size and accessibility of legal market. From what I understand, Brazil's proposed measures target online casino And a different stance is being taken regarding sport betting. At the same time regulator are enhancing their ability to detect payment transaction involving illegal operator. Now the number of people gambling after ban isn't really any significant issue. Let's see now to what extent they shift from regulated market to grey market. IMO, if overall activity drops but illegal market expands significantly then both consumer protection and monitoring will become much more difficult for government.

Yeah, you are right, the government is aware that they cannot actually stop gambling totally or stop the citizens from gambling totally, all they want to do is to reduce the level at which their citizens are gambling. If the rate of gambling in the country is 100 percent high with the help of government in trying to stop it, they can reduce it to 40 to 50% and if the succeed in doing this, they have actually stopped gambling or stopped the citizens from gambling at a large extent. The government should not only concentrate in stopping gambling they should also concentrate in providing jobs and making the economic favorable for everyone, it will actually help in reducing the rate at which people gamble in that country.

Since we are aware of the weakness of the government in Brazil to stop online gambling, we should also point out one way that the government have failed in their own duty.
How can their be combining sport betting and other gambling games, when there is alot of tax that the government is taking from sport activities in the country, we should always point out where there could be likelyhood of government failures when such proposals are brought forth.

I really hope so, i don't understand how they don't understand, pardon the pun, that prohibition is the worst choice they can make. Problems are not solved by prohibiting things. They should have learned from bitcoin that banning is useless.

the biggest issue for me would be the uncertainty. if companies already paid for licenses and then the rules change, it makes it really hard to know what the market is going to look like a few months from now. i can see why both bettors and operators would be watching this closely.

It's unfair to the casinos that have paid such a large licensing fee to operate legally in the country.. these casinos pay this fee to have legal certainty in the country.. if the government ultimately changes these regulations however it wants, regardless of the reason, that's really not fair to them. what the government should do is make clearer rules to limit casinos from advertising in media or places that are likely to be accessed by minors, while still allowing licensed casinos to promote their services in appropriate places.. not the opposite, like totally banning online games and restricting sports betting.. that will just push people to play on unlicensed platforms, and it will only weaken legal casinos that have been contributing to taxes.

Whenever I see governments talking about banning gambling, especially in countries where gambling has become really big, I get suspicious. It could be that there are people lobbying for the government to ban gambling because they want to monopolize the market when it's illegal. It may not be so in this case, but there are countries that have banned gambling, and it's still been played a lot illegally. The people who provide these illegal gambling sites make a lot of money because there is not much competition. And also because they control the government, so the regulatory bodies clamp down on competition.
Not really. Sometimes, it comes from the people in that country who feel gambling addiction becomes uncontrollable. So they push their regulators to issue a frame work to tightening the regulation for the gambling. I'm not saying your statement was not right, but such case is rarely happening. So i suggest you to watch it closely about what reason trigger brazil to do it. When i did a research about that, and i found a pool on AtlasIntel, which is one of famos polling site in Brazil has majority of people voted Gambling ruined the financial of family. It may be the reason to pushes Brazil regulator to tightening the ban to the gambling, but i hope they won't do a full ban because it's also harm their tax income from gambling as well.

I see this as rumor, government can't ban sport betting they are benefiting from, same betting companies are sponsoring the league tell me how woul thr government manage to sponsor the league without these companies and still take care of their responsibility for the people? This news is just fallacy, op you should have added a link for us to confirm this news by ourselves, if this news is real then the government is senseless because they can't stop gambling totally the people will still be betting online and they will lose more. Let them keep collecting their lience fees and let thr people enjoy their gambling activities without fear.
Op, you said these companies paid upfront if five years to the government , has the five years elapsed? The government can't ban any bet companies that have already collected lience operation money from, they will sue the government and get victory, let's assume this is rumor and should not be taking seriously. Gambling should be the lese things government should be concerned about.

Of course, gambling destroys families and not just in Brazil but it is important to realize that a ban won't be very effective; compulsive gamblers will always find a place to play and lose their money. I believe that if the Brazilian government is tackling this issue, it should involve sensible people and AI in the decision-making process and approach the matter rationally, paying attention to the finer details. Perhaps there could be limits on daily deposits combined with mandatory verification I’m not sure of the exact wording, but I am certain a solution is possible. To avoid leaving addicted players destitute after losing their money, we need to figure out how to steer them toward recovery.

It’s all a matter of time, we are going to see if the government is actually going to take it serious or it is just something that we die down in a few months to come. Sometimes the government usually do something like this, they will initiate something and then abandon it. It happens in my country a lot the government usually initiate a policy and then abandon it. Gambling companies can be sponsoring a lot of things in the country however, if the government actually decides to stop gambling companies from operating in there country they can actually do it and they don’t even care what they will lose or how it will affect the company or those benefiting from them.

This authority’s decisiveness has come into question in light of the authority’s tendency to put off policies. Actions to enforce laws tend to be loud initially but eventually dwindle down as people become more concerned about other things. Authorities have complete power and could end the betting business in split second. All sponsorship funding would become insignificant once the shut down notice was enforced by the authorities.

... There are advocates on both sides: some want a total ban, while others argue that with a ban, people will continue to gamble "illegally"
But the reality is that there is extreme uncertainty for those who invest in Brazil, and that the government can change its mind at any moment and simply overhaul all the rules overnight
What do you think guys?
This is indeed repetitive and actually my post could now consist of three words and would say it all. Enforcement, enforcement, enforcement. 25 years ago they could have walked around and closed most of those stores where sports betting is offered and even then hidden back offices would still operate, but enforcement would have had a realistic chance to reduce the overall betting activity. Now I think there is no chance. You could sign up as a 10 year old kid, could avoid KYC and gamble with funds you draw from your mother's Paypal to buy crypto at an unregulated exchange. I know this is an exaggeration, I hope it is, but the possibilities for those who want to gamble are endless while enforcement bodies are limited. It could still be done, but it would come at the cost that Brazil would lose oversight, would lose access to statistics about what is going on in their country. Everything would be grey area, estimations. There must be another way to reduce especially gambling addiction.

If we are to talk about the benefits, since the Brazilian government issued out their policy to allow gambling sites to register and gain license the government have been the one benefiting more, they have charged for licensing and taken a percentage from the revenue those casinos make from the citizens, but the real danger now is the type of message this their new decision will send to foreign investors concerning how they could easily change policy that will affect business without minding them, gamblers finding another way is not even something new as offshore casinos will always be their to serve them even if the government blocks them access its easy to break.

No matter what they government does gambler will definitely look for various means to gamble even is Brazil government bans online casinos. This is because gamblers will bypass and gamble with VPN and that puts the government on the losing side. They have made a lot of money from gambling why are they trying to ban online casinos operating legally in the country. They can ban the illegal ones.
The only reason why they are probably doing this now even after benefiting from gambling is probably because there must have been a disagreement between them and the online casinos. If this country has accepted gambling initially it is not going to be easy for them to place a ban on it. Like you said, VPNs actually exists, I don't know if the Brazilian government are aware of that. Gamblers would always find their way around the system as usual. Another danger of this is that it might lead to underground gambling which would attract criminals.

They pay to go legal, they get scammed and not lots illegal movement begins..
If they cared so much about addiction and gambling harm why did they accept the companies and request for the money tagging it license fee, see how they make exploitation formal.
What ever they do they should settle the gambling companies, because their 5 years isn't complete, if they are so concerned about increase in addiction they can stop them but should settle them, their money can't go like that.
If only they know the impact of what they are about to do, deals will be ruined, business collapsed, jobs Lost, etc just because you want to cut short an agreed time. Crazy world..

Not people become concerned with other things but because they get more distracted with some other issues. And that's the reality if the government tend to make things such as this as the headline. It will die down and the issue will be uncalled for after a couple of months. And it's either they have already made a resolution on how to put things up with the sports book and both agreed in their own terms. Or, there's really nothing to be cared for anymore into it since sports bettors still have a way in accessing it despite the law enforcement.
