There is this social anxiety that people always talk about... which is loneliness at old age. The society has made it look like if you do no marry that you will be very lonely at old age. Is this really true?

I have come to understand that phrase is just to create tension in order for people to consider getting married. We do not own the future, even if you are married, one of you might leave each other in the future either as a result of death or a divorce.

Again you can get old together with your partner and they end up being sick for years which means that you will need to take care of them till they die naturally but what about you who took care of the person... ain't you lonely?

I think the society should stop creating social anxiety because the best security anyone can give themselves is to be financially stable at old age, it's only when you don't have money at old age that you will feel the real loneliness if you don't have a partner and even if you have a partner but you don't have money, you will still feel some kind of loneliness because you might not be able to afford some basic things of life.

We should think more about building wealth than being too futuristic about how our old age will look like. Life is not promised and people can change. The person you started a beautiful life journey with can even become cruel to you at old age so we should focus on more important things which is wealth creation.

That social anxiety is not accurate, people could marry and end up losing their spouse earlier before old age, some could get divorced even making their Old age filled with regrets and what ifs.
Families with large offsprings may not always mean that you will not be lonely at old age, every individual member of any family also have their lives in front of them to make their parents lives adventurous.

What I would do it plan for my old age and that starts now, a healthy lifestyle will help you to be active at old age. At old age you could still be active, go hiking, be part of a healthy community, play with your grand children, be less of a burden so people don't get scared coming around you.

I completely agree with your point about loneliness. Wealth definitely helps, but it's not necessarily going to save someone from loneliness. Plenty of lonely rich people out there, and plenty of poor (financially speaking) people with rich and full lives. Marriage is no guarantee either way, as loneliness is about connections.

Invest in your financial future for independence, yes, but also invest in relationships. Try to make sure you have a core of connections, which could be family, could be dear friends, or could be a strong community. Much easier to do that from your first white strand of grey than it is from your seventieth birthday.

Money cannot give you the happiness and companionship you need at old age because you don't have that close person who understands you very well and have become part of you. There is nothing wrong to on building wealth at your youthful age because you can get married at any time if you're a man but it's not the same with women.

If you're lonely at old age, life can become miserable for you especially, when you're poor. But if you get married and have kids, they might become rich in the future and give you a better life because nobody knows tomorrow. If you have a partner at old age, you wouldn't feel any lonely because s/he will be there with you. Getting a life partner is not only about getting rid of loneliness at old age but also to give birth to kids and have a family of your own. Husband and wife are to assist one another.

Maybe you think it's right, but it's not right for me, even though money is important for life support in old age, you will never know what makes you feel lonely in old age, if you don't get married you will not have offspring, your kingdom will be destroyed after you die, there are no successors and only people who have an interest in getting your money after that, no one will pray for you or come to your grave just to visit on the day of your death.

Do not forget that money can just disappear if you are no longer able to make an effort to maintain your money, you will never know your future like you even though today you become the richest person, marrying a truly sincere person is like you build a business to enjoy old age, even though the children will go, your wife will still accompany you both joy and sorrow.

That social panic does not arise from a stupid saying, but it is born of the many experiences of former parents, who may have been left first by their partners, and they tell of those sad days without their partners.

I agree people will definitely change, but change always has a reason behind it, we just gamble will live better or not after old even though today you can be rich, happiness is very subjective, you have to know that.

We all face a reactive - responsive orientation that circulates in our society that ends up solving nothing, life has its way of working for people, Jewish parents with kids end up being lonely because their billionaire kids in the US won't come back to Israel, they've got the kids yet lonely. Some old people are strongly built that they still hang out with youngies and catch fun with the funds their kids send through to them, while the others are weak and tired, they'll hardly leave their homes. There is nothing feasible you'd ever think of that'll stop or remedy what is going to happen to somebody in life. People should learn to face life the way it is, rather than trying to prevent things from happening, allowing it happen gives one more freedom, than thinking about what hasn't happened and trying to avoid it, some people die of the fear of something that is yet to occur even when it hasn't happened.

Sincerely, you sound like a boy or probably a young adult who has not experienced life at all. Am just wondering how old you are right now. My dear, there s no way money can replace the impact of companionship and/or soul mate during old age. You could still have all the money and due of depression. We know money can do all whole lot of things for you, but it can't replace human beings and the joy they bring, the vacuuutheu cover and the glory of there presence.

Have you wondered why parents want grand children? And sometimes they go as far as putting pressure on there children to get married and give them grandchildren. Money is supper cool, but companionship will always be important, and we can't talk down on it, more especially at old age. You need all the care you can get, especial from family members, it gives you peace of mind.

Loneliness in old age will definitely come for everybody that will get old, but however some of the things that can help you have a good old age is when you have children, I've heard a man thanking God that he gave birth to lot of female children, this man should be around 77 to 79 years old, he literally eulogizes how his daughters are showering care to him everyday and are making sure he is okay at that age, I think from his explanation he literally gave birth to five girls, and they've all been taking good care of him in his old age. So getting married and having children is a good investment for old age as well, because it reduces loneliness and when your grandchildren are there with you during your old age and probably you guys are in the same house, it will help reduce loneliness.

Usually, the elderly are closer to God. Statistically this is shown in the fact that the elderly die much sooner than the young.

If the elderly have faith in God, they only seem to have loneliness. Why? Because God, realizing their frailty, is strongly with them.

If they don't have faith in God, their loneliness should be cured by people helping them to come to faith in God, and particularly Jesus salvation.

Is that your fear? Haven't you seen where couple grows old together and living happily? Death is already inevitable that one can die even at a younger age so death shouldn't be an option why you should object that phrase.
Again, marriage isn't a unionship with a covenant of living in for better and for worse as some people may say so, if you're not comfortable with your spouse, divorce will serve better to save your life and regain your peace of mind.
I although don't believe in that phrase you've described but I can read sensible meaning to it.
Imagine after living in the love and affection with sexual intimacy and chemistry at your young age, if you don't have a partner to keep those memories going, when you grows old you'll be definitely feel that emotional left alone.
Of course even at your old age you'd still need that company of one who you both cares for each other.

I understand your point OP. There are some social anxiety that the society made it look like a necessity but in real sense they do not really matter. But that aside, it is a good feeling to get married and grow old together with your spouse. If life happens and one of you left due to death or divorce, it is a different thing from those who actually lived till old age. There was a popular actor that did recently in my country, it was noted that his wife was there for him all through his sick periods till the time of his death. There's no better feelings than knowing or feeling the presence of a spouse at old age.

Some people might say that they are only interested in having kids so that those kids will take care of them at old age but as we can see, it doesn't really happen that way because those kids will grow up to become adults and get married which will leave them with the responsibility of taking care of their own family. So, they won't have enough time to spend with you at old age, they can only visit you and return back to their own family. Even if you might still have a younger child without a responsibility of their own but it will be a burden to him/her while taking care of you always so the best person to take care of you at old age is definitely your spouse.

One might well face old age alone; marriage is no guarantee that your spouse and children will remain by your side until the very end. However, you can actively shape your social life from the start by building as many relationships as possible.

I have a relative who is not yet elderly (under fifty) yet he lost his eldest daughter two years ago during childbirth, and then, just a few months ago, lost his wife to a severe illness that was detected too late. He has decided not to remarry. Fortunately, he owns a shop that is usually bustling with activity. Through this business and his profession, he has cultivated strong relationships with his customers; rarely do I see a customer simply buy something and leave without engaging in a lengthy conversation.

I don't think society even put as much pressure as one put on himself. When you grow older especially the age when all your friends and age group gets married and you are the single one left, it's hard to imagine the pressure you put on your self, you won't be relating with the conversations with that group of friends you've known your whole life and it feels like they have all moved on on you.

As for the kids growing up and leaving the nests, that's constant, you don't expect them to stay with you until you die ? Atleast they still come around if they like you, lol.

I don't believe that peer groups of friends cause more pressure on someone who is unmarried to the way society puts pressure on you. Do you know how society will see you as irresponsible when you have approached an adult age but haven't been married especially for the women? Women has biological clock due to menopause so they are even the ones that society puts so much pressure to get married before the reach menopause. Do you know the pain of being pressured to get married. And this mentality has made a lot of women to enter into unfortunate marriages just so that the society will not mock them.

No parent should even live their life thinking that their children will come through for them at old age because that is the biggest fallacy thar people were made to believe that children will look after them at old age and that is why most poor people are suffering at old age because they had the idea that their children will take care of them when they get old.

When we talk about loneliness at old age, we are not just talking about marital status alone. It’s possible for someone to be surrounded by people but still end up feeling totally isolated, while someone who’s unmarried on the other hand can have very strong family relationships, friendships and a meaningful connection with the people around them. So preparing for old age should go beyond just marriage or money, but rather building a healthy connection and relationships with the people around you. Again, when someone has a support network, you’re also literally investing in your future too because in the long run, those are the things that truly matters.

I don't think you will understand how it feels because you've not gotten to that age yet, no amount of money can save someone from depression and loneliness. Have you calmed down and thought about why parents ask for grandchildren from their children? When you get to that age, you will know better, or look for an older person and ask how it feels to be lonely without a partner; even young adults today do feel lonely most of the time if they're alone all by themselves. Talk more about when you've gotten much older. I know of a lady in my place of residence who has died because of depression and loneliness because she has no husband and children, and she's very wealthy.

Old age is usually a period when people feels like life is coming to an end, and needs a lot of support that will keep them lively.
Lack of care by families, friends, nabours and children is a common thing that most aged people suffers and could even lead to loneliness. From my observations from most of the aged people who are suffering rejection is because, while they are are much younger they ignored people and makes decisions feeling everything will be the same for long, forgetting that a time will when they will need the help of some of the people they treated bad.
Being kind to people generally not considering there status can buy one a place in the heart of people so that when old age comes one would be able to reach out to them for help
