The FomoPeak iOS app contains malware that can steal crypto wallets.

The main thing is that fomoPeak is an iOS app,And to our knowledge it was originally marketed to track cryptocurrency holdings or whale wallets But currently it appears that this app contains malicious malware that can steal crypto wallets,This has actually been confirmed by SlowMist and OKX In fact, they mentioned that versions 1.1 and 1.2 of this app contain harmful malware code.

This app even included an iOS kernel exploit framework (8 attack methods),  So if it is successful, it can decrypt the keychain data and steal the private key, and the seed phrases, logins, and files of many of these local boards. At this stage it can be said that those of these Nija local board who have installed fomoPeak versions 1.1 and 1.2 should take note of the following points:

If you ever installed #FomoPeek 1.1 or 1.2:
1. Check wallets for suspicious txs
2. Create a NEW wallet on a clean device that NEVER had the app
3. Move funds immediately
4. Update iOS
5. Uninstall. Do not reinstall.

What you mean is that the app was a legit app before but version 1.1 and 1.2 of the app updates contain malware like the app developers gone rogue?

I do not have a crypto portfolio because I have heard bad information about the apps before, but this one is the first that I heard of good developers gone rogue.

Instead of downloading the app, people can use the site directly for portfolio. Any that can not make it possible on their site, no need of using it.

Another reason for us to believe that our device are not fully secured the way we thought and our expectations of believing IOS is more secure than hardware wallets isn’t right because our devices can get compromised.

The more safer way would be after moving our funds to another new wallet on another separate phone then we should make sure we factory reset our phone for a safer side and we can use the phone back again but I wouldn’t advice to put the new wallet back on the phone instead just use it for something else.

Malwares are tricker than we think.

But my question now is, do we need an app to track our crypto portfolio? Like how necessary isn't? Sometimes we are the cause of our own problems. Trying to be fancy, trying to be lazy only make things terrible for us.

If you have so many cryptocurrency, you can always keep track of them from time to time. Or if you don't want to connect them to the internet which is not ideal, then create a watch only wallet of all your cryptocurrency and watch them.

Some apps are irrelevant to have in your phone. What this apps does can be easily searched on the internet and not necessarily downloading the app and keeping in your phone while is can attack your sensitive informations. This is another reason why you need to separate your wallets app access  in another device and not use them to access the internet all the time. Just a single mistake could make you lose everything. Having two separate device for your wallet apps and also for accessing the internet is better and safer for your portfolio.

Thought the security on IOS were stronger, why then are they allowing malicious apps to be downloadable from their store, well some of this apps can go undetected for sometime and during that period they could've already done some damage. This should served as a warning to those that like to download everything on their device while that's still where they store their Bitcoin or altcoins. You shouldn't be using your device that you use to hold some Bitcoin for day to day use for downloading apps you haven't verified how safe they're. Keep your Bitcoin offline or in devices that you don't use often. Your laptop can be a good place with wallets like Electrum or other good options out there. Your phone is a very vulnerable place to keep your Bitcoin especially long term bags.
