So many of us see gambling mainly as a game of luck, but i think studying games very well and knowing how to predict games also plays a very important role. Two people can bet same amount of money and have completely different results at the end of the day because of the prediction. And one of the biggest problems so far is knowing when to stop. After losing bets, it is very easy to become emotional and increase the stake just because you want to recover the previous loss. The same thing can happen after winning, when confidence makes someone start taking bigger risks.
So am actually curious about other people experience apart from mine:
What do you guys think is more important in gambling? And what is the biggest mistake you have made while gambling?

We have been discussing about this since a long period of time ago. The most important thing in gambling is risk management. To make it simple for yourself, if you are earning enough money in a way that you are having discretionary income, do not gamble up to 5% of your income. Any gambler that do not have good risk management is not a responsible gambler.

I think there are strategies to increase your chances of winning at prediction. Like, if you see some errors in odds given by a bookie or something, it might be advantageous to take advantage of them. For example, if you know that the probability of a team winning is 60% (Possibly based on your analysis) and then a bookmaker offers it at 45%. That is a big mismatch and could give you extra %.
Best when trying to do this is keep records to really see if the strategy works.

I do not think that the study of gambling for a long time plays a direct role in the results of a person's gambling. However, it can be said that if a person studies gambling properly, he can be aware of the dangers of gambling and be careful and can establish himself as a self-controlled gambler. However, as always, I will say again that the results of gambling are entirely dependent on luck. However, in the case of sports betting, if one has a good understanding of sports analysis and teams, one may increase the chances of winning in gambling.

In my opinion, there are two types of gambling. The first type are games whose outcome depends solely on luck (for example, roulette, craps, slot machines, and so on). The second type are games whose outcome depends both on luck and the player's knowledge, skill, and ability. These games include poker, blackjack, and sports betting. 🙋
Accordingly, long-term winning is only possible in the second type of games.
For example, you can win at sports betting if you're very knowledgeable about the sport. Your main goal is to find bets with incorrect odds. Of course, even then, you won't win consistently. It's simply impossible! However, your probability of winning will be significantly higher than 50%. Therefore, in the long run, you'll make a profit rather than incur a loss.
By the way, I bet on sports quite often and have noticed that logical strategies don't always lead me to winning. Sometimes I win simply by betting at random. On the one hand, this can be explained by chance, on the other, by intuition. Incidentally, there's another problem here... Trying to win using logical analysis isn't always a good idea. After all, in life, a person makes decisions based not only on logical analysis, but also on intuition. This happens because the cerebral cortex can't process all the information entering the brain. The brain receives a huge amount of information, but not all of it is processed (some information is simply stored). This is why spontaneous bets sometimes bring us winnings. So it's not that simple... 💁

How successful have you been knowing how to predict, for me I think it's a game of luck but the luck can meet a good predictor and also a bad predictor. For me taking less risks is more gives success than taking excessive risk but you know in gambling the lower risk brings back nothing financially. There are also times the unexpected outcomes manifest into reality, you can't disregard luck playing a part.

What I reckon is that if you’d followed your own advice – that is, if you’d actually studied gambling properly – you wouldn’t be spouting that rubbish. No, studying games that have a house edge isn’t going to make you win more or less; if anything, if you study them too much, you’ll probably stop playing them and start thinking more about setting up your own casino to turn the house edge to your advantage. I do not think that the study of gambling for a long time plays a direct role in the results of a person's gambling. However, it can be said that if a person studies gambling properly, he can be aware of the dangers of gambling and be careful and can establish himself as a self-controlled gambler. That’s the problem: to begin with, the OP hasn’t distinguished between skill-based activities such as sports betting and games that have a house edge. 🙋
That's it.

I will dwell more on the topic, if gambling is more about knowing how to predict and not just more about luck.
So well, knowing how to predict is one thing people must also know, but that's not all. I understand that in this conte, knowing how to predict games doesn't just mean knowing where to press and then select games and press the bet button, nope. Am sure what you meant by knowing how to bet is having the ability to pick the right games with the right options that if you bet them, gives you the desired outcome and you become a winner. And I must say, that's the most hardest thing to do, and thasg why people loss games always. How do you become sure that Brentford will win Chelsea 3:0, and Arsenal will end up losing to Brighton the same 3:0 when you cannnot see the future?
I just see it as, after you know how to pick games and then vet, luck comes in. If what you selected plays accurately, then you have won, and that's not because you know how to picks games like a professional, but because you were just lucky, because there times and/or there have been times you picked some games, staked very high because you were sure of the game, and at the end, it didn't go as planned. I feel it's luck more than prediction knowledge.

The most important thing in gambling is a proper bankroll management and having self control over your gambling activities. Another problem gamblers have is greed. Don't be greedy and accept the outcome of your session, instead of chasing your losses or trying to make more profit.
It's not good to go at length studying gambling or looking for different strategies to make profits because that can mislead you and make you feel, you can make profits by your own gambling skills which is wrong.

It doesn't change anything; it is still what it is. The worst thing for a gambler is studying games and learning how to predict outcomes, thinking this will make gambling a certainty. Seeing it this way will only mislead you and lead you to gamble with an amount that you can't afford. It is not bad to study games, but this is not a guarantee to win. It can help you make better decisions, but you just have to understand that there is an outcome of either a win or a loss.

And what is the biggest mistake you have made while gambling?
There are very many big mistakes in gambling one of them is majorly underestimating the effects that gambling can have with you by thinking that you are so much in control of yourself that if you start gambling recklessly you would still be able to do so within responsible limits. We've often seen where gambling turns responsible individuals into irresponsible gamblers simply because they underestimated the discipline required to maintain responsible gambling. A big mistake you can make is not prepare yourself enough for gambling mentally before you start gambling because it can take anyone away.

Gambling all about knowing how to predict games No... Gambling is all about "trying" to predict games. In this case, sports games. And sometimes we have a good run, but for all of us, bad days are always around the corner... Somehow, we can't miss/avoid them... What do you guys think is more important in gambling? And what is the biggest mistake you have made while gambling?
The most important thing in gambling is to never spend more than you can afford to lose. Don't expect too much, have fun & spend your money as you like it... Your money, your play, your game!

Depending on luck is a trap and this could actually keep you limited as a gambler, it is better know how to carry about proper analysis, although this doesn't guarantee winning but it is definitely going to increase the chances of making profit from the game. Relying on luck isn't really sustainable and in the long run this dependency is going to cost you more than you actually won from gambling.
I haven't really made much mistakes in gambling but one mistake I made and it's something that's common with a lot of beginners, I got overconfident because I was using a strategy that worked consistently but it only ended up badly, I lost more than I won within a short period of time. The summary of this is to always make sure you don't get too confident even if you are good at predicting games.

This is not true as you can not make any kind of successful predictions with consistency. When you think you have predicted something correctly, you were assisted by luck. If people could make predictions correctly and consistently, then all casinos would go bankrupt. I do not know what you wanted to say something that is completely incorrect and we should know around these parts that constant predictions are not possible. In some kinds of games there is analysis and skill, but the impact of that is still limited and there is a big amount of luck involved. What do you guys think is more important in gambling? And what is the biggest mistake you have made while gambling?
To learn that it is not about earning money and that you can't earn money this way, it is about playing for fun. That is the most important thing to know and that includes then all things like knowing when to stop. If you are playing for entertainment only and understand gambling, then it will be under control.

Recognizing that the likelihood of losing is greater than the likelihood of winning, since predictions are inherently uncertain. Risk management is also important, in addition to being aware of the greater odds involved in gambling. By recognizing that the odds of losing are higher, I believe that when a gambling session ends and the result is a loss—or losing money—it won’t have a negative impact on one’s situation.

That 5% maybe looks like a logical percentage but it varies depends on how much the income is. The five percent from a $1K salary is not the same from $100K salary. And it varies also from a country to another. A five percent from the average salary in in Bangladesh isn't the same as the average salary in Canada. What I want to say is that everybody should set his gambling budget depending on how much he can really afford to lose. The amount that can be reasonable for somebody in Finland to lose from his monthly salary is considered as fortune for a family in Vietnam or Syria.

there are limited outcome that is available while making a bet and all the different set of people that predict on a game can only choose either of the available options and of all the available options, just a few of them will eventually play out as predicted. you stake with the hope that the option you have chosen falls under the available winning options and that is the only distinguishing factor between winners and losers. as long as you have placed a bet, you must fall under one of those category.

Just as you’ve said it, gambling is a game of luck, knowing how to predict is good but at the end of the day you’re not the one to determine the outcome. Knowing fully well that this is a game of luck, and the outcome is not what is in your hand to decide , so the most important thing to note in this game of luck is to risk with what you can afford to lose which is taking account of your level of risk tolerance . What if it didn’t go this way can you be able to sustain yourself, and if you know you can’t then take precautions and go gamble with what you can be able to lose.

The game of luck is difficult to measure but can still be controlled if victory can be achieved. Therefore when I play a luck based game and in game A get a win then the solution is to withdraw the profit then leave the capital then move to another game. The biggest mistake I made in the past was winning and losing at the same time because I kept playing the same game.

For me the most important thing in gambling is the awareness that we do not control the results at all. Taken to the extreme, a jackpot can happen the same to an expert as to a complete ignorant person. Thinking that there is some kind of ability to predict outcomes, that you train to such an extent that you win consistently, is one of the most common mistakes, and a part of the reason why some people fall into the trap of chasing loses.
