So many of us see gambling mainly as a game of luck, but i think studying games very well and knowing how to predict games also plays a very important role.

Yep, predicting the right outcome plays an important role, but that doesn't mean that's the only thing you'll have to focus on. The most important thing about gambling is understanding the odds and positioning yourself on the "winning side." That means you have to find good value in the market you're interested in, not just pick the winners and earn a cent. You may accumulate several losses consecutively, but a win or two can break it even or get you some profit, is a good betting value. Some bettors may choose to place a bet on the heavy favourites and risk a lot for a few dollars, but IMO most of them aren't worth the risk, because upsets are more frequent these days.

What do you guys think is more important in gambling? And what is the biggest mistake you have made while gambling?

What's important? I think it's just important to be sensible and keep in mind that gambling is just fun and you can't make money from gambling. The moment you start gambling with an intent to win money, it gets problematic. I mean, we all want to win, of course, but eventually it's only going to end up costing money to gamble in the long run. So keep that in mind and don't deposit more than you can afford to lose, even though sometimes you might feel it's an easy win. If odds are offered on a game, there is a chance to lose

The biggest mistake in gambling is actually chasing your losses. Once you start chasing your losses, the hole gets bigger and eventually you either go bankrupt or thankfully visit a psychiatrist in time.

In my opinion, the most important thing in gambling is to set a budget. If we can set our budget for gambling, then we can manage all the risks of gambling. There are many people who cannot set a budget for gambling. Due to not being able to set a budget, they use an uncontrolled budget in gambling, which later puts themselves at a lot of risk and at some point becomes an addiction. I have not made any such mistakes in gambling so far because I have used very little money for gambling and I am using gambling only as a means of entertainment, due to which even if I lose, I do not feel much regret because I do not use a large budget in gambling.

When I was new to gambling, there was a mistake that led to my losses. My research mistake and excessive greed was that I could win more money with less money. We have been discussing about this since a long period of time ago. The most important thing in gambling is risk management. To make it simple for yourself, if you are earning enough money in a way that you are having discretionary income, do not gamble up to 5% of your income.  Any gambler that do not have good risk management is not a responsible gambler.

I agree with you. Anyone who thinks that any excess money they may found themselves having and immediately depositing to gamble, in this case here for predicting sport betting is a very dangerous bettor. The fact that he deposits immediately despite having other money to cover all his expenses shows such type of gamblers know nothing about risk management. As that saying goes "it is not important how much money you earn, what is important is how much you spend" and this should be a moto to the life of us all financially speaking.

OP's methods are their own but anyone saying they just have the will power to stop is either very strong willed or just lying, the best way is to have a bankroll, it requires far less willpower to stop playing when you've spent all you planned on playing with.

But if you are really looking to be able to keep your cool then be sure to gamble with what you can afford to lose, and this one actually works for me, I just tell myself that if I hadn't spent that money gambling I would have spent it on something else, maybe something even more wasteful and since it's not that big an amount I'm usually convinced.

The most important thing about gambling is your bankroll because without money you cannot gamble so if you're not able to control yourself about the amount that you use to gamble you'd become an irresponsible gambler. The only thing that you have a total control over in gambling is your bankroll, if you lose that control because of irresponsible gambling you can become addicted over a long period of time. Let us not underestimate luck when it comes to gambling, you can have the best strategy and the best knowledge about sports prediction but they are not a guarantee that you must win your bet and that is why bankroll management is very important for gamblers. Biggest mistakes for gamblers are chasing loses and becoming overconfident when you're winning.

You can do the best handicapping in the world, but an unexpected red card or an injury can still wreck the ticket. If you follow this simple rule, you'll be fine. That's how 90% of gamblers act, and that's how we should act too.

There are two important aspects in gambling that I think everyone knows but often forget about them: to have fun and to know when to stop. Ignoring or forgetting about them were biggest mistakes I have made. Went greedy and instead of forgetting about the loss, I have made immediate bet and lost again. I have turned gambling from fun into something financial and got punished for that

I am a bit disagree with your statement saying gambling is all about knowing how to predict games. Because in reality, having a high win rate doesn't guarantee a positive PNL at the end. You can bet on a small odds market because you think the chance of winning is higher, but once you lose, it can wipe out all your small winnings. Apart from knowing when to start/stop, I think one thing that is even more important is bankroll management, so you can control how much you risk on each bet. With a better understanding in risk to reward, you may end up with a positive PNL.

Also, if gambling is all about predicting games, there wouldn't be things like sports arbitrage. People who do this, I believe, don't really need to know how to predict the result, because they don't really care about the outcome. They can make money simply by finding differences in odds and calculating the right combination of bets. I also read that there are people who only hunt for bonuses and place delta neutral bets to secure the bonus as profit regardless of the result.

This is why I believe that even though you are good at analyzing games when gambling on sport, you also need a bit of luck, for an unplanned event don't just come up and spoils everything you spent so much time analyzing.

In gambling being lucky is the most important thing  even though it's sport betting because if you are lucky, it's very hard for you to bet like three different slip and not winning at least one from it, but if you are unlucky, you may even bet more than 100 slip and not win a single one from it, that entails how difficult gambling is.

Gamble is a game that is so emotional. Once you are not careful, maybe you don't know how you go about it you automatically become caged in it. That is the more reason knowing when to stop playing remains my most important factor in gamble that i am always careful of when I am on it. However, this can occur in both wings, when you're on a losing streak and also when on a winning streak respectively.

Gamblers are tempted to continue playing when losing as to recover all their lost funds. Likewise when on a winning streak, greed can also make someone to unnecessarily increase his bet if he can win more and that's very risky.

And what is the biggest mistake you have made while gambling?

My biggest nightmare in gamble happens way back at school when I gamble with my school fees, hoping to have it doubled. But unfortunately, I lost everything which i almost miss my exams if not for the intervention of a friend that saw me through by sorting things out for me. Indeed it was crazy then.

I personally believe that people should not only choose the right team but also place the right bet. Just because a team may have a higher chance of winning the match, does not mean that any odds on that team will be a good bet.

About prediction, I do not really agree with OP, he sounded like there was some sort of magic strategy with knowing how to predict games, but in the end, it depends on luck. Predictions always comes with uncertainty, but you can buy yourself more prediction abilities if you manage your bankroll better, control your bet size and preserve your bankroll for longer.

I limit my bankroll even before I start, I use a budget of less than 5% of my earnings, share it accross the weeks of the month and deposit a weekly budget only once. You still need will power to keep to your budget, above all, you need to convince yourself to stop playing as soon as you deplete your balance and not deposit more than once.

There are sometimes after picking up games to bet on which look clearly that am going to win but i still end up losing, most times the right teams we think that should win gets us disappointed, this is to show that nothing is sure as long as gambling is concerned.

Odds doesn't win games it only shows how inform teams are. The advise is good people wouldn't be so addicted into gambling if they know when to stop, but out of ignorant of wanting to win back their lost money they continue losing more on the process.
Gamblers should be responsible when gambling by staking with their limit and also know when to walk away to avoid more losses.

I see gambling differently, so in my view, risk and emotion control are more important than understanding or guessing the game. Because at the end of the day, the result is the real thing. Sometimes you have to lose even after analyzing and researching for a long time, and sometimes you can win even after making a decision in just 2 minutes.

In some games, knowing the odds or information about the players has a huge impact on the result, while in some games you have to rely entirely on luck. So the most important thing is self-control, i.e. not playing uncontrollably after winning and changing the mindset of recovering losses at that time after losing. Because you will never win or lose every day. Knowledge can influence some decisions but does not eliminate uncertainty. So you should always understand your own capabilities and then make decisions and keep your emotions under control.
