Russians and Ukrainians are thesame people,. Their "language" words are very similar in pronunciations. What could have gone wrong?
As someone with basic knowledge of the world's system and the entity that rules it, I would say that the two siblings, who are more related than the core Europeans, are fighting each other because one wants to "move up" the system while the other is resisting.
It's quite hard to distinguish between the people of both countries, their facial features are very similar, quite different from typical Europeans, and they are probably the most beautiful in the region. Reminds me of Amhara and Tigray of Ethiopia, who are mostly Orthodox Christians, very similar cultures and facial features, yet they fought each other recently,. .Fortunately, they have military groups that have somewhat become a uniting factor: Fano and TDF.
We could try something similar between Russia and Ukraine, then use that to suppress the disunity for the time being.
The important thing is to realize that both are thesame people, only being divided by outsiders and strange cultures. The very similar language pronunciations (you could call that dialects of thesame language), religion and facial features should be part of the uniting factors

What could have gone wrong? Same stuff as with most nations. Greed, and allowance of other countries to influence them. The world picture is not Russia and Ukraine fighting each other. It's the West attempting to use Ukraine to conquer Russia. And it just so happens that the form of government Ukraine has makes it rather easy for the West to infiltrate them to do this. So the West encourages this kind of government. One can see where the problem exists. Zelensky constantly calls for peace, and then he turns around and attacks rather than proving out his wish for peace by laying down arms, or at least backing off. If he had made these peace moves before the end of 2022, Russia would have stopped with the Black Sea Corridor, and the war would have been over before it really started. But the thing that the West was doing through Ukraine started a long time ago... the latest segment of it starting in 2014. The appearance of Russian aggression was really a form of defense that Russia finally had to put into effect to keep from being gradually overrun by the West through Ukraine. People of the West say that what I am saying is simply Russian propaganda. But they don't realize that all the talk they have heard is western propaganda that has been going on, really, since the time of the Bolshevik Revolution, and reached its peak at the time of paranoid Stalin. But was Stalin really paranoid? The arms and fingers of the West were trying to assassinate him way back then, using him as an excuse for their secret attempts to steal Russian lands from Russia, and maybe dissolve the whole country of Russia. The important thing to understand is that the separation of the peoples of Russia and Ukraine is being pushed into place by the greedy people of the West in their relentless attempts to weaken both lands enough to conquer them both. So far it is working to conquer Ukraine by using Russia to do it. But Russia understands this, and will ultimately nuke/destroy the West if the West continues.

Are you two claiming that when the tower of babel was being built, god was lazy and gave two groups a variation of the same language? That is blasphemy (Genesis 11:7) since god created multiple distinct languages to prevent people from building a tower to protect from magical rain.

If you look at it from a broader context, it's the West (US and allies) fighting against Russia. Unfortunately the Ukrainians are the pawns. If you look around. You will notice that people of the same origins or ethnicities are fighting against themselves, and like some other member said, there is always external influence. War is a business, and it has to keep running so some folks can profit out of it at the cost of people's lives and property. Look at the Yemenis, the Houthis vs. the Yemeni government. One side is having external influence. The other side thinks it's not the way to go, and so they try to resist.

There's something I read during the time of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Ukraine is actually older than Russia but because of the border they share, Putin felt it will be easy for the West and NATO to come in so he had to stop it. There's actually no difference between the two of them like you stated, even Putin said it himself that Ukraine is culturally and historically inseparable from Russia. The only thing I feel went wrong was the fact that Putin felt threatened by Ukraine's desire to join the NATO and according to him, if such had happened, it will give the West access to the country and that will mean loss of control for him.

Well informed submission I must say. Vladimir Putin is one man who has always made clear of his stance against NATO and the Westerners, Ukraine knowing fully well that they share not just borders with Russia but also cultural and historical ties that back over a thousand year should've known better that a leader like Putin will not allow them to be used by the Westerners to infiltrate Russia. That was what he felt would happen and as a leader who controls the second most powerful military in the world, he had to take action to send a strong message.

^^^ Putin has said back near the beginning of the war, that he doesn't mind if Ukraine makes deals with NATO. It's the activity of Ukraine attempting to push forward in fighting Russia and/or Russians living in Ukraine (2014 mostly) that Putin is against. Things have changed, because Ukraine wouldn't accept being policed by Putin in the beginning. Now it is really war. The question is, will Russia allow itself to be policed by the West if it comes down to such? Or will it really mean nukes? Russia has found in the past before 1991, that people of Russia want their freedom, just like anybody else. That's what was under the USSR fall. Russians have a lot of freedom under Putin. But if the West provokes them, they will fight like they always have. It might be like a civil war between Russia and Ukraine. But it is the West provoking and agitating that civil war. Note that, similar to the USA, Russia is like a melting pot of many nations, and was so long before the USA came into being.

This kind of makes the US the biggest hypocrite in this century. They want to expand their influence beyond borders but do not like the idea of other countries doing the same. For example, they are so threatened by the fact that Greenland is not under their control, and so Trump even threatened to invade it at one point. I think other superpowers now see through their bullshit and won't fold to their demands. I think the Ukrainian-Russian war will go on for a long time. The US will probably have to give up on those interests like they did in that war against the Talibans

You can't send a strong message by attacking your neighbors because you'd leave them no choice than to be vulnerable and ask for help from the very people you're hoping they stay away from. Putin's ruthless dictatorship and greed is what's making him act so carelessly and what's more threatening than knowing your hold on a country is slipping out of your control. I don't think the attack on Ukraine was a strong message to the West, it seemed like a desperate attempt to look like Putin was in charge.

These are two great countries that are really admired and hoping to visit there one day, but it's very sad to see these two great nations fighting themselves due to the western powers that have been using Ukrainian soil as a means to threaten the sovereign of the Russian federation through various means. We all know that these sister countries share history linage that is linked to the Kyivan Rus during the medieval era when countries were not yet formed. When you look at the history of these both countries, you will understand that they were both in unity and live together as a large territory that constitute other nations like part of Poland, Belarus and others. How I wish the long anticipated end to this war will quickly manifest so that the world can embrace peace again. We all need each other like the way we need water on a daily basis. It will be more disastrous if this war continues as we all getting to a sophisticated time when everyone need energy to stay safe from the winter cold.

It is true that Russian and Ukrainian has a shared history they have multiple cultural connections and also their language is similar but I think we cannot call them the same people, it is way too over simplification of the situation . Having similar languages or physical features does not erase separate historical experiences and national identities. The conflict is not outesider dividing two identical groupso . There are real political historical and security issues that are involved and the people from both the countries they also have different type of views about their National identity. Military groups cannot be a good example for creating unity among people. It comes from dialogue I like people to decide their critical features and respect for sovereignty having shared history is a bridge between people but we cannot deny the difference that have developed between the two society

The biggest quarrels are among the neighbors and brothers. When there are conflict and misunderstanding between neighbors and within family, it should be quickly resolved with negotiation and mutual respect. When you bring external people to your conflicts, hold grudges and goes physical, they are much worse than fights among strangers.

While this is true in general, there are two big differences between Ukraine and Russia. 1. It is not the Ukrainian people who are fighting with Russia. Millions of Ukrainians have fled to other countries to avoid a war that they did not want. At the same time, many Ukrainian soldiers were kidnapped off Ukrainian streets by the Ukraine military to be used to fight in the war. They had a choice: be executed or become a soldier. Many who became soldiers have surrendered to, or joined, the Russian military on the battlefield. 2. Russians are fighting for their homeland, because Ukraine has been attacking them on Russian borders since 2014. They don't want to have to fight, but they don't want to lose their homeland to the West, that is behind the things the Ukrainian leaders are doing. When you consider these two things, you can see that it is the West along with some of the main Ukrainian leaders - especially Zelensky - who are making this civil-like war happen.

It is speculated Kyiv is older than Moscow. Russia is a superpower and every superpower has do's and don't but their don'ts have been constantly been disrespected. Can you imagine Russia building a base in Mexico or Canada, what would be the response of the United States?! He wasn't threatened, the constant expansion of NATO towards Russia was way too much and if you go back, there was a clear agreement this was never going to happen. I can understand all Putin does is to push away the US backed NATO away from his backyard. But then, why will the US backed NATO push into Russia bothers when thry wouldn't accept the same? It is tiring.

OP, you're an idiot. Saying that these two countries have same language is just nonsense. Yes, it's similar because it's from same slavic language groups, but as someone who understand both these languages, there is so many differences. You don't say that Serbian, Bulgarian or Belarusian languages is same, right? It is speculated Kyiv is older than Moscow.
Russia is a superpower and every superpower has do's and don't but their don'ts have been constantly been disrespected. It's not speculated, it's facts. When Kyiv was built, in place of current Moscow there was only swamps. And Russia constantly been disrespected? You kidding, right? Russia is the one who constantly disrespect their neighbours. If there wouldn't be threat from Russia, there wouldn't be any need to join NATO.
Mods, maybe it's time to lock this topic because this stuff can be discussed in main war in Ukraine topic.

Note that Ucy in the OP, is really stating that people should be feeling pain over the civil-like war in Ukraine. Think of all the loss of life... hundreds of thousands of Ukraine men, and many thousands of Russian men. Think of the wives and children of these men. The fact that it is a war or like a war, doesn't make the deaths any less of a loss, or any less painful to those who have lost relatives and friends. Many Ukrainians and Russians have ties to and families in both countries. Oh the pain and loss.
