Has Convenience Made Us Less Patient?

Lately I’ve been thinking about how much easier some parts of everyday life have become. A lot of things that used to take time and effort or just waiting can now be done almost immediately. We can get information in seconds, communicate with someone immediately, order things without even leaving our homes and find answers to problems without even spending much time cracking our brains and figuring out ourselves.

Honestly there is nothing wrong with that, if somethings can be made easier, why make it harder but then I wonder if there’s a downside to getting used to everything being so convenient. Do we become less patient when things don’t happen quickly?

For example, someone might give up on something simply because it’s taking longer than expected even though a little patience could have made the difference. We can also get irritated when someone doesn’t reply quickly to our text because we are so used to instant response. Even when learning something, having an answer available immediately can make it tempting to look for answers instead of sitting down and trying to figure it out ourselves.

I’m not saying we should do everything the hard way because obviously convenience saves us time and makes life easier. I’m just wondering that if constantly choosing the easiest and fastest option is slowly reducing our tolerance for things that naturally require time and effort.

As you have already mentioned, people these days do not have the patience to wait for getting their things done quickly.

People don’t have the luxury of waiting again for something to be done, and not only have convenience made us impatient, but it has also made a lot of people, especially this generation, find comfort in laziness; they are always focused on looking for a way for them to get things done without actually doing anything. Technological advancement is good and welcomed.g which is the advantage of it but how peoples day to day life are now being fully dependent on it is on another level.

Compared to when? 30 years ago? 50 years ago? Some people born 20 years ago already had most of the things you describe at their finger tips today. That is the progression of humanity and it is remarkable in many ways. Rather than dwelling on the past however, it's more interesting to think about the future and what might be possible 50 years from now. What's also curious is what we've lost, for example super sonic flight was a possibility with concorde but has never been replaced since the last ones flew and it allowed much faster international travel. It would be interesting to think that humans could start living on other planets which might give us a chance of survival if Earth were ever to meet misfortune again, either self inflicted or from outer space. Convenience is great for us, because it often saves time which is one of the most limited things we have under our relative control.

This current generation lacks patience and they are in a rush to get things done. This is why you see that they are after getting rich quick without any effort or hard work.

A friend of mine child was promoted to the next class but my friend jumped the child above the class that he was promoted to just because he couldn't be patient enough to allow the child pass through all the  classes naturally. Patient is a virtue and those who are patient enough, don't regret it.

No one said technological advancement won't come without disadvantages because it actually does produce disadvantages of which is impatience, laxity and mischief are the byproduct.

The convenience that modern innovation has brought has done well to recalibrate how we perceive time, friction and effort and that's why we see the rise of impatience and get rich quick schemes flourishing like never before.

When we lose our capacity to embrace the toil and effort to get things done, whatever it is that modern innovation helps accomplish won't be as meaningful as it should be when we did the work ourselves.

Convenience itself isn't the enemy it frees up valuable time and energy. The trap is letting convenience dictate our default state of mind. Recognizing that some of the most rewarding experiences in life are inherently slow, noisy, and challenging is often the first step in protecting our ability to stay patient when it actually matters.

I understand where you’re coming from and also where you’re diving at.
Actually you made a very good point in your comparison but actually, if we should look at it from the other angle, I don’t think that’s really a factor for laziness, because even in the days where things took longer people were still lazy and impatient . And at this point in time we don’t even have all the time.

Talking about the impatience in late delivery, sometimes need arises, and aswell urgencies too. When urgencies arise we tend to look for the possibilities in which we can get what we want as soon as possible. Most times we even get guarantees but still fail. Sometimes it’s not impatience it’s just disappointment.

The area it has really affected us is in terms of procrastination. We tend to procrastinate too much with the confidence that we can always get it within certain range of time to we tend to wait till deadline. This do exist in people even naturally sometimes, but then I can agree with that.

The world is evolving and as such we need to adapt. Imagine knowing fully well that this is not supposed to take soo long but a factor is causing delays. We all just have to play our roles right.
