I saw Al Hilal in the list, I thought that is a club from UAE, if so how are they playing in CAF champions league?

Yes, the UAE has their own Al Hilal and Africa has its own too. This one is a club from Sudan. The names are very confusing with Al Ahly of Egypt too. Probably because they are Arab dominated countries.

It's such a shame that only Rangers scaled through among the Nigerian teams.

I don't understand the format very well but I saw two Nigerians clubs River United and Rangers fc. Rangers appeared twice but River United appeared only once. Maybe it would be easier to read when presented in relatable table formats like the UEFA champions league and other European league style.

But what I noticed is that I do not think people like to discuss about Africa National Leagues and CAF. Or maybe in Nigeria because Nigerians dominate the thread.

We keep the European league threads busy even when the season has ended but you will see our thread dormant even when the season is on and active. Some time I have to check like two to three or further pages to find our thread. We don't like to watch our local games and we don't want to discuss them either. This thread will go into extinction very soon due to inactivity. The system has made the local games uninteresting to majority.

If you read what I wrote here, I made a statement talking about one of the the reason why we don't usually notice that the matches are being aired on super sport channels, is because of the Premier league/laliga matches that are shown on the weekends. It's usually from 2pm-9pm, I usually watch some of the matches. But I blame CAF organisation or association for this, if they had invested money into this competition, and advertisement just like the way UEFA champions does theirs, by then people in Africa will be interested in watching the competition.

Another problem I noticed is that our , local football teams are also poor in the aspects of publicity, that even their supporters doesn't know they are playing continental competitions.

Publicity is the major problem of our local team and leagues, they have no much investors to look into their matches and give them the boost they desire. I really do not know how the European teams do it but what I will advise is that our local teams or league should learn from the European teams and leagues on how they go about their publicity and also getting investors into their leagues and club's.
It's hi time African local teams step up their game so they can go global just like the rest of the other club side matched around the world.

I have carefully checked through the Preliminary Round 1 and their next opponents and i do not see Al Hilal in the list rather i saw Al Merrikh, and you could be mistaken them as Al Hilal. Al Hilal is a club in Saudi Arabian and they cannot participate in CAF champions league because they are no African club. Nigerian teams usually do not do well in CAF champions league, so i am ashamed that Rangers was the only Nigerian team that remains in this year CAF champions league.

You sound funny, when was the last time Champions league was discussed in that topic?. I have been observing that thread before I create this topic, they hardly talk about our continental for football. Like I said before the most popular discussion there are about National football (especially Nigeria and NFF) and Afcon/qualifiers. Even CAF confredation discussion doesn't happen there. If they were talking about champions league there, I wouldn't have bothered in creating this one. I don't mind if the moderator locks this topic, if he sees it unworthy.

It depends on the decoder that you are using. If you are on full subscription on DSTV, they do show CAF competitions and I always watch few matches whenever, the competition is at its peak. You can check it out when the competition starts. Egypt has been dominating this competition for a while now and I will love to see a different club entirely win it this time. Well, I do not have much clues about the decoder you are talking about because I do not subscribe to it and the ones I subscribe to do not have or air CAF matches hence no much information about the CAF league.
Moreover, this league is not as popular because of its poor publicity and the organisers of the league are not doing anything about it and this would make it very difficult to bet on such leagues because there's no much idea about the team's and their performances.
Anyways I have checked the league record and just as you have, Egypt seems to have recorded a good number of victories in the league although Nigeria is just twice but Nigeria git good team's but lack sponsorship and support.

I love the facts that you created this thread, other continent has this kind of thread so I see nothing wrong with it, and yes you are right about the other thread they don't discuss anything concerning this competition like that so creating this thread is okay and good for those that is following up the competition.

Sometimes they invest the money and corruption will steal the entire fortune assigned to sports development. The CAF competition is a very big tournament but receives very low visibility. It should have at least 3 or more channels in every TV in the region to be displaying these games with ease. If there's established channels to watch them, for sure fans will start following them very well. Publicity matters and several tournaments in Africa are played in empty stadiums too, no fans on the pitch nor TV viewers. Several tournaments go unnoticed until the end and this has affected its recognition in the world of football too.

This is where the major challenge lies, most of those that are joining in discussions on this trade are majority Nigerians and they don't mostly have interest in other African teams to the extent, not because they don't watch their matches but mostly appreciate homemade football performance from their teams rather than engaging for their discussions on other African countries the may not really know more to discuss about their performance.

I blame the African elites for not investing in Africa. Just imagine that the big TV stations in the continent don’t have dedicated channels to show Africa footballs, but they are quick to have multiple channels for leagues outside the continent. How will people support what they are not seeing? People will adopt what they are seeing on the regular basis. You only see the TV channels showing interest in African football when it’s time for AFCON. We can’t grow like that, they should normalize broadcasting our own champions league games, that is the only way to get the interest of the people back in the league.

Yes they are to be blamed, there is nothing corruption can not cause, how will they have channels like that when they are busy thinking unproductively, Africans are there problems, some times I will want to watch some African league matches, but I get discouraged because there no way to go about, although I do not like our settings, but I truly want to identify with my people, what does it cost to do some of these things, it wouldn't be much since it African continent, is African ready for development, cause some part of the world are no longer in this level, I think it is time to do better.

Africans don't value their football or sports body and leagues otherwise there would have been much publicity and interest in it but we value the English leagues and give it much attention than we give to our own. Although the European leagues are well published all round the world and that is why they get more views than expected. Africa produce more star then Europe but the problem is they didn't value to them and I think the resources are also the main factor that's a star from Africa can't reached to theirs top peak career, instead European reached soon that's the main factor of resources. If you have proper resources and value to the players you will get that's top peak. It's all are just my opinion but there is more things in that's but the first thing Africa need a proper football league system then every country has own club so the football craze and hype will be show .

There is this NPFL thread that supposed to be having dozens of discussions in it on every weekends when the clubs in the  Nigeria domestic league plays their matches but I have noticed it that it is seldom discussed of and it is only the AFCON thread that have every African persons attention specially Nigerians.

For this CAF champions league I'm not taken by surprised how Nigerians do not engage in discussions about it in the AFCON thread even when they discuss of the world cup qualifiers and thereafter events  it is very few Nigerians that watch the CAF champions league and it could be that larger number of them in that few are not in this forum.

The most successful club in Nigeria will be participating in the tournament, as a result of the ongoing problem the club is facing, i do not consider them a big competitor to win the tournament. Enyimba is already having a hard time, they are last on the NPFL table, what a chaos for a big club, instead of focusing on the CAF competition, they should, by all means, fight for a chance to escape relegation.
