Introduction: Don't you just hate it when the international break comes and as an African, you feel left out because there isn't a discussion thread for we Africans to discuss international Sport/football tournaments like our counterparts. Well that feeling should be a thing of the past as this thread will serve as a dedicated hangout joint for discussion by all forum users (both Africans and foreigners) interested in Africans in sport.

This thread will be updated with everything Africa Sport/football worth discussing, each tournaments, round fixtures, table standing etc. Feel free to drop your prediction on table toppers, match winners and discussion as any tournament progresses etc.

Good to know that we have a new African football competition discussion thread, that will keep us busy with discussions after wnd of each international competition, with focuse to local player's, this definitely will boost our discussions on African football and team's, after the just concluded woman CAF competition with Nigeria winning the tournament, this increased my zeal to follow up with current discussions, this thread came at the right time.


This is the groups c match table i got interested in group D because my home country Nigeria is fixture on that groups, and it will be interesting to know how their will be performing in the up coming groups stage competition, since the supper Eagles have not really been impressive with their performance compared to their supper falcons counterparts who have been consistent in victory over other African teams

The recent happenings in the African games has been very compelling and has made many of us who have not been fans of this local tournaments to start developing interests. The ongoing African Championship tournament is really thrilling and the young lads are full of talent. Yesterday saw the Senegal game against Nigeria which I personally felt was supposed to end in draw before the ruthless mistake from the Nigerian Keeper which led to their defeat by 1 goal.

This would be a good place to run to and stay busy before the season kicks off. No more dull moments and I can say that CAF is doing a good job in organising these tournaments.

I still believe that Nigeria has a chance to win this tournament even though their defeat yesterday has placed them in a tight corner of qualification. Senegal is a tough team in the tournament and they might also meet in the finals if care is not taken.

The recent happenings in the African games has been very compelling and has made many of us who have not been fans of this local tournaments to start developing interests. The ongoing African Championship tournament is really thrilling and the young lads are full of talent. Yesterday saw the Senegal game against Nigeria which I personally felt was supposed to end in draw before the ruthless mistake from the Nigerian Keeper which led to their defeat by 1 goal.

This would be a good place to run to and stay busy before the season kicks off. No more dull moments and I can say that CAF is doing a good job in organising these tournaments.

I still believe that Nigeria has a chance to win this tournament even though their defeat yesterday has placed them in a tight corner of qualification. Senegal is a tough team in the tournament and they might also meet in the finals if care is not taken.

Nigeria cuts my betting slip by loosing to Senegal. I predicted the game as a full time draw until Senegal scored Nigeria in the 2nd half of the game. I was hoping Nigeria would score an equalizing goal but they couldn't and the game finally ended with Senegal defeating Nigeria. Nigeria had better ball possessions and goals opportunity but lacks finishing, I was disappointed with the outcome because they had more quality players present in that match than Senegal and yet they couldn't score a single goal before the match ended. I wasn't happy that they didn't qualify for the world cup and now they have started messing things up. I think the Nigeria coach should come up a better strategy and also talk sense to his players.

i cant tell of the qualities in each of the Nigerian or Senegalese side but from what i watched in that game, any of the two side could have won that match because the transitioning of pressure happened at both ends with both teams being completely physical against themselves. a one nil defeat that happened due to mistake can happen in any game be it in the first super eagles team or this particular squad that plays this game. 

the core take away from the game is that both team gave an impressive performance which shows that there are a lot of stars in our leagues that if giving an opportunity to play in the first team will do really well. it is the first league of the fixtures with more games to come. Congo and Sudan has already drawn sharing one point apart giving the group a neutral ground for anything to come from.

This is a very good competition it will help a lot of players to grow and I believe the completion will be tough because every player we put on his best in order to make foreign coach see them, this is an opportunity given to upcoming players to showcase there talent to the world, I believe Nigerian players will do very well because those players are very talented and I hope that the best players in different Nigerian league team will play this competition because they usually neglect them and pick random people in Nigeria so long they have money to pay which is not supposed to be so, those Nigerian League players deserve to be shown over the world because they are really talented sometimes they should even pick them for world cup if that is done I believe Nigerian national team will do more better because those ones that has not been given those opportunity before when giving we play their best and perform very well.

I laugh at your last statement, that Nigeria have more quality player's than Senegal.

Bit their lost 1:0 to Senegal this shows that you have over rated the Nigeria team since you should know that what calculate quality is the winning, and in this game Nigeria could not equalised the goal not to even talk of possible winning the games.

Anyways we may still have hope that the Nigerian team improved from the current lack of technical know how to score goals and also lack of cooperation between the player's, if that is solved we can expect more goals from the player's.

I was not really expecting Senegal to win yesterday match.  Though played even more than Nigeria Eagles but I was still having the hope that The Super Eagles would win but ironically Senegal won it game. Well this is the beginning of the tournament so they still have chanced to do well but if they behave like the way they did in the World Cup Qualify.
If Nigeria didn't qualify in this group stage of the African Nations Cup then they lost it all. They are already out in the world cup and if they lost in the stage group in this tournament then players need to be restructuring.

I hope the Super Eagles of Nigeria will sustain the latest trend set by Nigerians in the area of sports in general. Now Nigeria is dominating in female sports, football and basket ball have all been won by Nigeria and other sports will follow. We need to revamp the male sports especially football because we have the quality of players to do that. I thought since the goal came in 75 minutes super eagles will also endeavor to score there own one before 85 minutes but I began to see players whom there hope was not strong equalizing, they could have also do like other clubs on there group instead of being the only one who doesn't have a single point, that was there first match of the African nation championship, Congo and Sudan played 1:1 and also having 1:1 point but Senegal after winning super eagles became the first club on the group to have 3 points, so actually they need to win Sudan to have 3 points because another draw shouldn't be an option for them.

It is better you didn't watch the tournament most specifically Nigerians games but you can choose another Country to watch their games most specifically Morocco. I was really surprised to see that Nigeria loss that game. I watched the match in a local TV [NDTV] and I also regret of watching that game.
Since Nigeria didn't win their first game then I don't think there is any hope on them again.

The only time I had enjoyed watching the super Eagles of Nigeria 🇳🇬  were in the 90s and early 2000 during the time of Jajay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, Sunday Olisa , Finidi George and Teribo west Era, and that was when you see the players play with patriotic,  But these set of players are not putting enough work ,well I blame because of they the other past players were not taking much care of which lead to some of even hanging boot earlier than they should. I lost interest in watching these set of players, the other time I picked up interest was in the time of Keshi.

I saw Odumodublvck made a post talking about how he walked up to Tosin to play for Nigeria. I know the politics behind all these movements  and how much he must have pressed on the table of NFF for him to play for Nigeria. Congratulations to him on having that slot but my own opinion remains that, players who had no such plans to play for Nigeria during their early stages shouldn't be allowed to do so now. Godspeed to him yet again.

They beat Bulgaria, Greece and lost painfully to Italy in the second round. The Atlanta 96 Squad made up of some senior players, took the World by storm in the Olympic Games.

The coaches who achieved these feats were not world-class. But Clemens Westerhof and Jo Bonfrère were lucky to be surrounded by players who were desperate for glory. The current crop of Nigerian players don't have that drive.

That has always been the flaws of Nigeria team, they can win possession, dominate the match but lack a good finisher to put the ball at the back of the net. They are just like Manchester United. I hope that they improve from this state of playing pretty good but can't score any goal.

Senegal is not a week side when it comes to football, so don't expect them to easily give up on Nigeria to equalize the goal and win the match. Nigeria should make sure that they win their next match.

As usual, he may want to take the praise, acting like he really had a stake in the players decision. If Tosin is choosing Nigeria, it is because he wants to and not because of what any celebrity told him to do.

I was not around in the year of 1996 but I believed the Super Eagles did well in the year 2013 which they won the AFCON Champion but after that period, they play games that have nothing to discuss about again. I started watching Nigeria team football (Super Eagles) from the year 2005 which they played with Tunisia and which Super Eagles did well. here.
Super Eagles players now is for "guys" and not to foe the country. From what we have seen yesterday match, super has nothing to offer and it is better we leave the tournament in the group stage.
