We all bet for profit ,but I won't say I bet to pay bills because that is the main reason why many are addicted, desperation can cause a lot of demaged to someone life, me personally I like betting on my favorite team and possibly if I win and I have a bill to pay I will use it to settle it ,but fully depending on gambling to sort out my bills is totally out of it , and I will not even advice anyone to have such mindset towards gambling,I believe it is a wrong mindset that can mislead many even cost them there money because they want more from betting to pay off bills .

People need to learn not to depend on anything that has to do with chance and much uncertainty, paying bills is better with money earned from your work. We need to get a life and a career of our own. Gambling is just for fun and lucky money, there is no guarantees to it.

This is one of the main reasons of unhealthy gambling, when you are under pressure to win and pay bills, you may end up loosing the little you've already. You may now see yourself trying to recover your losses and the damage continues. The time and money you put into gambling to chase money for your bills would've been more profitable if it was invested in self-development, so you can offer your services for a more reliable source of income.

Bills keeps coming and must be paid, but gambling wins has no guarantees and can disappoint you big time.

I gamble for entertainment so my priority is not to pay bills with my wins, I want to thrill myself with small amounts and I don't have any serious plans on what I'm going to do with my wins, I can decide to use it to pay a bill or do whatever comes to mind, it's mostly nothing significant. Gambling shouldn't be seen as a job where you will feel entitled to wins to take care of your bills, if you have such a mindset loses will be hitting you very hard because it is short of your expectations which is not a good feeling.

I am not surprised out all to see most bettors in  American who had placed sports bet did that to pay bills or mortgage because plenty of people in to sports bet believe they can make cool money from sports bet easily.  I do not gamble to pay bills; i gamble for fun but if i won a bet and have a bill to pay and the money i won from sports bet can take care of the bill i will not mind using the money to pay off the bill. Winning in sports bet is not guarantee, so people who are hoping to win some money from sports bet to pay bills are lazy and they do not want to work.

Gambling to make a living is legal but people that are thinking about it only see themselves as fools later when they have lost huge amount of money through their stupid thinking. It is very wrong to have such a mentality that can make someone's life so miserable. If we could get this high number of those dependent on gambling gains to sort their bill in US then you can only marvel on the numbers that will be coming out of lesser developed countries with high level of unemployment. I have always known that majority of gamblers are in it because they expect to get financial support from it but that isn't realistic though because while you win today, you lose tomorrow. But, I'm surprised with the numbers coming from US that has a greater opportunity for jobs and good standard of living.

Well I'm not a huge gambler. I do that from time to time and when I do, I expect to have additional money with me from it but not particularly that I have a debt or pressing financial need that will get me running to gambling to sort it. I know gambling is not totally profitable all the time and running to it at the time of need may worsen the situation if you lose the little you have. The point is, when I do gamble, I expect additional money. but whether the reality is profitable, is a different thing entirely.

You can't just add 51% and 21% to get 72% and call it a day, can you?

After all that 21% respondents who bet to cover rent and mortgage would already be included in the 51% "help pay bills" group.

So, by adding them up, you end up counting same people twice.

Anyway, not everyone bets with the mindset that I depend on betting to pay my bills. I might win occasionally at gambling and use that money to pay a bill. That doesn't mean my financial survival depends on betting.

I can’t truly remember when last I gambled to pay my bill instead I gamble for fun without me attaching so much value to gambling because I know that the result are always poor in fact it is programmed to a way whereby if you place a bet the probability of winning that bet are extremely very poor or low.
So with such result I wouldn’t have that mindset to keep gambling for paying my bill because it’s not at all time that someone would win.

From what I get, 45% respondent said they have borrowed money to place bet. And 19% stated they have outstanding betting related debt. It is noticeable that debt figure among daily bettor has reached as high as 40%. That is why I encounter it very concerning that so many individual have started considering betting as source of fund for fundamental expense.

Personally I do not want to rely on betting to pay any of my bill. Because then any of my losing week doesn't just mean loss in betting. It directly create problem for my regular financial obligation.

Well, good luck if you're one of it, I do hope luck will find you to cover it. The thing with this kind of mindset is that you'll always think ahead of you and in the end you either have to chase it if you're not satisfied or lost but it will probably lost you more and you're leveraging something that may makeyou miserable if not paid on time.

Well, we can't condemned them if they do something like that, it's their life after all, but that's a huge gamble. It's like you're gambling something over a gamble, funny enough. Swear to God I'll not do that unless there's a call for desperation and that's the only thing I can think of.

It doesn't take long to get your answer that gambling can't be used to pay bills, it's not possible because of losses that comes with It, if you want to be irresponsible in your life start seeing gambling as a way of life, pay bills and do the needful of life, you will regret very sooner than later.

I have used gambling to solve bills before and that's because it presented itself, I won when my bills payment was around the corner and I use the gambling reward to cleared it all, this doesn't mean that I will purposely go into gambling so that I can settle my upcoming bills, it will mostly end in tears.

To be sincere I am not a part of such idea in any way and I'm not even thinking of it in future. However, I am from Nigeria where sport betting is mostly played and many young people do patronize it based on the fact that it normally help them in keeping body and soul together. But again, it's not guaranteed that the more reasons I only do it for the fun and with no much expectation.

Furthermore, I wouldn't know of others but in my personal opinion I don't think it's proper to put hope in settling all our bills on something that is not guaranteed, what If our game didn't Play as expected, what then will the said person do at that point?  Perhaps is like hoping on mere fantasy and the usual result of such action is disappointment.

The outcome of bets have moved on from being programmed to have a definite outcome to being calculated by a set of formulate to ensure randomness and ensure that it's fair, of which you can verify your bets. We're in the age of probably fair games, casinos that have not upgraded to this standard should be avoided. What remains is that in randomness, there's no guarantee, so you might get lucky and you still might not and that's why it's not a good idea to depend on your gambling wins to pay your bills.

I wonder how they do it, doesn't it bother them that they are risking the little money they have left on gambling knowing well how unpredictable gambling can be? Well he was just lucky to have won when he needed the money, but, this should never be considered as a reliable way to make money. I doubt that those who do this have consistently been able to pay bills with gambling wins. They can think of the days they lost money to gambling, that feeling of disappointment should be enough to describe how disappointing gambling can be. Betting is not a sustainable way to get money to pay bills.

Looking at the percentage of people who answered “yes” in this survey makes me sad in a way. The majority gamble just to have money to sustain their bills and everyday needs. Honestly, sometimes I'd gamble because of the thought of winning the jackpot prize so I can treat myself to the things I really want. However, making gambling as my main source of funds is a big NO for me.

I’ve seen the effects of gambling on some of my relatives and I don’t like how it has affected their lives right now because of wrong mindset. One thing I wouldn’t agree with is the assumption that gamblers who bet to cover their bills are necessarily lazy. This is because I’ve several situations where financial pressures have pushed people into gambling because they see it as a quick way to earn some quick money, even know there’s still so much uncertainty in gambling outcomes. And this wasn’t because they didn’t have jobs they were doing, but because their current job was either not generating enough money to cover those bills or they just had the wrong mentality and mindset about gambling, so it’s not always about being lazy.

No, it does not count. As you did not started to bet in sports with the fixed and clear objective to pay for your needs. You just got lucky and decided to do so with your profits AFTER you won that money.
This thread is intended to address people who are in need BEFORE placing their bets and in the case of winning, they had already decided to use that money to pay for those bills.
