This should tell us that even those that gamble for entertainment can still end up seeing gambling as a source of income. It is not bad if someone wants to make profit from gambling, but seeing it as means of getting money for basic needs can be risky because gambling is a game of lucky and there is no certainty of success.
It is understandable that people always act this way when they have a financial needs that needs to meet. however, I feel people should have a source of income instead of relying on gambling as means of meeting their needs.  Also we should only bet with what we can afford to lose. Because being on a losing streak will for sure worsen someone financial situation that is already in bad shapes.

On my part, I will not lie. I bet on sports, hoping to pay my bills. I'm from Asia, and many times my bets saved me from missing paying my bills.

Frankly speaking, I'm not part of them, I don't have any specific reason why I'm gambling. The day I tried hoping on gambling to pay bills it didn't turn out well for me, and I ended up losing money instead of solving my financial problem. The experience I had that day thought me that gambling is not a reliable way to pay bills, just view gambling as something people do for fun and entertainment and safe yourself some heartbreak. You need to see how disappointed and how broken I was the day I tried hoping on gambling to pay bills, very devastated because I had expected it to solve my problem, but it only made things worse for me.

I haven't seen any major statistics about this but I'll bet most of them lost their bills trying to gamble and flip it miraculously and suddenly they wanna make that same money back after losing it. Sometimes we know the answers to these statistics as well as the kind of individuals that fall in this categories.

If you are betting to pay your bills you're an addict.... Infact associating primary needs with something that ought to be as trivial as gambling is pretty wild if you ask me.

I've never wagered any amount because i needed to pay bills or buy something with the money i could possibly win. That would be cruel to myself, how could i hang my hopes on something that has more to do with luck than anything, something completely out of my control. Gambling is terrible when you rely in it to pay bills, the pressure of winning makes one to be much desperate. I wonder what people who rely in gambling to pay their house bill would be facing because this is the worse state as a gambler.  The best way to gamble is to play bet without expecting anything. Gambling without expecting anything makes one to have fun in gambling and you dont have to bet with so much money because no pressure. Gambling to solve problems can even increase gambling lose more because of how badly one needs money by all means.

These statistics are mind blowing to me, I have never thought that people are risking this much, but I am also wondering if you wager with the last money you have, or it’s another option for saving money. What I mean is if you bet like 5% or 10% of your total amount, trying to at least double it, then use it to pay bills and cover expenses, which mean your winnings will cover the bills and nothing extra.

If the amount you are betting is way more than what you have in your pocket, that means you’re risking so much.

Personally, betting on sports especially last months became a rare activity since I am very short and having financial issues. That's how it should be, if someone like me is dependent on paying my rent bill with money won from gambling maybe i would've been sleeping under the bridge by now. Well that's what happens when people threat gambling as a major source of income than a side hustle or form of fun/entertainment.
 I can't depend my essentials on something that money is not guaranteed from cause i might end up disappointed if i can't settle those bills when necessary, important bill should be dependent on reliable income like you said and nothing more.

That is actually hilarious... Nigeria landlords don't even have your time at all... Imagine them asking you fro you rent on the due date, only for you to tell him/her to give you two more days because you are waiting for your bet to win..Surely that could actually make that individual end up under the bridge like you mentioned   Jokes apart, gambling outcomes are not something that folks should even rely on..Even the so called sure bets still have a very high chance of resulting in multiple losses.. Gambling is best done in a stress free or pressure free manner and that can only be possible when folks don't depend on their next gambling win to sort out rent as well as other necessary bills...Even if folks want to gamble for profit s a gambler(not always in support of it though), you should have a work you are already doing beforehand that can help sort out your  basic needs and responsibilities...

Well then whats going to happened if you lose, then your not paying the bills? Then no electricity for this month?

It's hard to believed that someone is going to risk that for a bills, or hoping just to cover it, it tells me something since I don't think they are doing it to cover there bills because they surely couldn't sustain that if they are doing it, so does that means that there are times that they don't pay bills because they lose? or they always win? I mean I usually do some bets as well to help me pay the bills as well, not really going straight to it, but if I win and I see that I need to pay the bill I would used my winning to pay that, since I don't really have a choice anyway because it's bills.

Having a high bill means that they probably have a high lifestyle since they maybe have a lot of appliances something like that, in the first place you wouldn't go there if they don't have the funds for it, it wasn't something that they can't afford it just they want to bet on it to maybe pay double, instead of just paying it straight from the salary.

I don't actually, I mostly spend the profit made from gambling on something I want or just put it back into investment if I don't need it at that moment. But I haven't really earned much to be doing that frequently. I think I've only done it not more than 2 to 3 times. Most profits are small and get spent almost immediately or held till I have something to spend them on.

OP, despite it not being something advisable, it's okay. A lot of people do it, but don't rely on it.

Personally, no. If I have a small amount of money and can't barely pay the bills, I wouldn't risk it in gambling cause what if I lost it all? What would I use to pay the bills? Gambling is a risk, and using it for a hope to pay your living expenses will make it more risky. I somehow understand if some gamblers resort to that, but it's just sad that they already have the mindset of risking the remaining funds you have to pay off the bills. Getting used to that kind of setup will always put your budget at risk and it's hard living that kind of life everyday.

Most of the time, I use my winnings on my leisure or wants. When I win enough, I also use some of it sometimes to add budget to my bills but I don't initially hope to win to pay of my bills, and I don't rely on gambling for it.

We all bet for profit ,but I won't say I bet to pay bills because that is the main reason why many are addicted, desperation can cause a lot of demaged to someone life, me personally I like betting on my favorite team and possibly if I win and I have a bill to pay I will use it to settle it ,but fully depending on gambling to sort out my bills is totally out of it , and I will not even advice anyone to have such mindset towards gambling,I believe it is a wrong mindset that can mislead many even cost them there money because they want more from betting to pay off bills .

Once desperation enters into betting, it can easily lead to addiction and chasing after losses. If someone bet for entertainment and eventually wins, using the money to settle bill is entirely a different thing , but making betting your plan for feeding and bills is a risky mindset that can cost someone more then they expect.

The fastest way for gambling to ruin someone,is if they depend on it for survival.  Depending it means someone can go extreme length in just to win. I remember my third year at the uni, one of my course mate didn't have enough money to cover  his tuition. He suddenly got an idea and deposited large chunk of the  money he had into sporty bet , where he was looking for 2-4 odds to flip his money in order to for his tuition and keep whatever profits was left . The end result was that he lost the bet and he had to start beging people for help. The point i am driving out of this ,is that  we should never make gambling be the solution to our bills, it can easily add more loss,emotional breakdown to someone.  It's better to take low paying Jobs to sort some part of our bills than depending on gamblingto solve your financial problems.

But funny enough it didn't work as planned, mine isn't for household bills I just had this believe that gambling would give me a huge amount of money that I will use to buy something remarkable. The number of addicted victims has also been raising some tensions that they are all aimed to be hopeful with their gambling plans even the games begin to play, they have already begin to make plans of how to spend it like they have won the game.

From the part of the country I come from,  I have seen marriages scatter because the husband gambles to pay bills, and the bad part is that  he is mostly not lucky. It is usually not funny for a man who is struggling financially to lose the little money he had to gambling. He will be tagged all the names given to an irresponsible person

If you know you are struggling financial, go get a suitable job, not risking the little money you have with him. Gambling is unpredictable, so it is wrong trusting it to pay your bills. I'm from west Africa and I don't think I have ever staked because I wanted to use the earnings for basic amenities like clearing bills however I did gamble so I could have excess funds at hand and of course that did not allow go as planned but that was largely the motivation behind me gambling back then. I did understand the pressure that comes from expecting too much from a gamble so I tried not to depends on my winnings, instead I just saw them as extra funds to have around.

I thought that this trend only happened during the pandemic. But even until now, it has become a big thing and I guess that it has come into fruition that people thought that they can always get quick money from betting.

It's not only for sports betting IMO but also for the other games that any person can bet with.

I won't do this, I'm still gambling based on how I see it as an entertainment and not a means to generate money and hopeful it can pay my bills.
