How do your friends and family react when you tell them about altcoins? Do they think you are nuts? Have they excommunicated you already? Do they genuinely want to hear more?
Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

They ask me why I haven't cashed out yet...I ask them why would I do something stupid like that?

It may take a long time before they understand.

My dad think all cybers are jokes, including Bitcoin. From this, you can infer his age and social standing.  Wink

When my son earns money at home he asks to be paid in Goldcoin.

My mom is an altcoin investor. And the rest of my family is pretty much oblivious in general. Cheesy

Friends didn't understand and family definitely won't understand so just leave them out of it until it pops up on the news then clue them in.

They think I've lost it. They ask over and over, so where are the actual coins? So there are no actual coins? So you have nothing?

Tell them "Most of the money on Earth only exists inside the computers of big banks, so you actually have nothing.
I have something that the Gov cannot inflate every year."

Close family was nervous until the first time I cashed some out, then supportive. Extended family, I avoid the topic like the plague. With their level of technological understanding I would have to form study groups for them to ever get my point across. Friends are generally supportive. I've told them what I've made so far, but I can tell they don't really think I will make more money from it because a few of them are in really good positions to invest but aren't at all interested. However, I'm generally not comfortable preaching about investments, so I've done very little convincing.

Thy like the way how transactions work. Besides right now  altcoins are much easier to describe, since you just say "Something like bitcoin but more modern" Wink

Altcoins don't suffer from the extremely bad media coverage......until you mention "it's similar to Bitcoin."

Yes, altcoins didn't go bankrupt the way Bitcoin did.  Roll Eyes

Usually they politely attempt to look interested--in some cases actually are interested--but gradually their eyes glaze over and they move on to other topics.

They aren't even prepared for the concept, not really.  The concept is too abstract for most people.  Add to that the distrust most people have in things they don't understand--especially anything computer related--and you get skepticism and dismissal.
