He remember about it in 2026 during this Dangete petroleum IPO. He decided to know how much his ₦20000 has yielded, it yielded ₦5332 naira.

US dollar in January to December 2008 was between ₦117 to ₦140 but it is ₦1370 today. If he used the money to buy land, the price of the land would also have increased.

What actually happened was that he bought the stock at high price, he did not buy more when the price was low. But if Fidelity stock only yield this low for 20 years, I am not convinced that it is not a good investment.

Stocks of Nigerian companies are generally not a good investment. My Dad told me about a bank stock they bought too. I think it was First bank, I can't really remember, and they said none of them made any real profit. Stocks of Nigerian publicly traded companies are not expensive, but they don't give you much profit, especially for people who buy with low amount of money. Rich people who buy in large amounts, where a 5 per cent increase means a lot, are the people who benefit the most from it. That is part of the reason I  am not very sure about the Dangote refinery stock. There will be promises and all, but for ordinary people, they will most likely not make any profit from it, even though they hold it for a long term.

It's not every stock that you invest in that will yield high dividends no matter how many years it has lasted. We should stop acting as if there are not people who actually made reasonable profits from buying stocks. However, if you are a stock investor and you want to make high profits you should also invest huge amount of money and also buy different stocks so that if one of them doesn't yield a good profit, other ones can. Buying Nigerian stocks are not just too profitable that is just the case. Though learnt that stocks like MTN, zenith bank and Guarantee Trust Bank has strong dividends track records. I don't know how true the information is but those that buys Nigerian stocks can say something about them.

It is one of the worst investment i have ever seen in life,  how one earth will someone invest 20000 in 20 years and gets back 5332 interest. Instead of investing in such option is better we keep the money with us so it can be used when needed than investing it with such ridiculous return.
Although I will blame the man because before investing,  it will be made know to him what is yearly profit would be so he can decide to get on with it or not. I will rather eat the money instead of going on with such option because its as good as nothing investing in such condition.

Honestly I used to see all these stock investments as a big investment to make a lot of money with but seeing this now I think it officially off my radar. Maybe there might be better stocks to invest in that will yield better profit but I don't even care anymore.
It really sad and I feel bad for the man, it will be very disappointing investing for a whole 20 years to see just to get 5332 Naira in return. Just imagine how much he could have made if he invested in Bitcoin or even invested in landed properties. That's really bad investment.

20000 naira is not a small amount of money in 2008. I think such amount of money is worth 200000 to 250000 naira by now.

The problem that most people have in the past is that they are not tracking the price of the stock that they bought and many of them bought it with the help of the bank in a way everything they have with them is offline on paper.

This is enough to let people know that stocks may not mean a means to get rich, it can be very risky when buying at high price.

You are saying the same thing with the previous speakers, and that what it is. But initially, you sounded like they are getting it wrong.

Rich people will always have a great advantage over the poor I'm making investments and buying stocks or whatever that concerns money. Even in Bitcoin investment, imagine if  the rich man that was buying Bitcoin consistently with $500-1000 weekly when Bitcoin was between $50k-60k, and if he held. Then compare the gains he would have made now that Bitcoin is within $84k-86k compared to a poor investor who is managing to create a Discretionary and is investing at the rate of $20-$50 weekly, and not even consistently due to lack of steady income. The difference becomes very clear.

The same thing also applies to buying bank stocks or any other investments. The poor will always struggle to make good profits because of there low purchase. It all depends on how much you have and is willing to put into the investment.

One of my friend talk say..., 'You need money to make money's, and na so e just be.

I wouldn't blame them completely because most of them was deceived in venturing into such a shared that hold no real value. Because its sounds funny to me, like is it #5k or $5k? is really annoying. Instead of this, it's better I keep the funds back with me to solve some demostic expense, because it's like hanging my money for years without no better return. This guy's sometimes can be so unbelievable.

I don't in anyway blame the man because as of then, how many investment was there, to choose from, the man wanted to invest that money and the available investment was stock and can someone who has made up his mind to invest do, I can't imagine abandoning my hard earned money somewhere for 20years, although the man was not thinking that Nigeria will be as it is today, but even as that, 20years for that profit is madness, 20k in the last 20years no be chise money, cause we no fit compare with now, this thing pain me scatter, the type of food stuff this money go fit buy then, e no fit near half currently, this thing no make sense at all.

Ignorance is one of the biggest issues we have about financial literacy, and until people are wise enough to not invest in what they have little or no knowledge about, this kind of mistake will never stop repeating itself time over time. And that's one bad thing about buying all these so called shares launched by African companies. Which is why few weeks ago when people were rushing to invest in Dangote refinery shares, I never rushed to bother considering to invest in it, simply because I knew it could never be of great value in long term compared to buying landed properties or investing in Bitcoin that have proven to a good asset for long term investment. Because even if he had kept that N20,000 in dollar when $1 was worth around N140, that N20,000 would have bought over $142, and by today this money is now worth over N194,540.

Investing in Nigeria stocks is like investing in shitcoin, immediately when you invest your money in Nigeria stock, just put it in your mind that your money is gone, because the invest will never bring anything, have you seen anything that Nigeria produced to invest in at the bring profit or people earn from it? The answer is no, that is why i tell those who invest Dangote stock last two weeks that they should not expect much the stock because it doesn’t look like something good.

Imagine investing 20000 in 2008 and in 2026 the price drop down to 5332, your first thought in your mind will be like you just wasted your money, i will not be surprised if those who invest in recent stock if they lost their money because Dangote was asked in an interview that did he believes that the 5k people invest in the next 10 years earn 10x of what they invest and he said he pray so, that shows that that man used Nigeria money to do business, even of no body knows what will happen, I believe that Nigeria stock is not good to buy.
