Are there still people holding worthless altcoins?

Once in a while, there are altcoins that gives a decent profit but yes most of the newly launch altcoin today are just for money grab.  I also have lots of tokens that once had a lively market and now is sitting in my wallet worthless.

There is one lesson to learn here, in the altcoin market, once we see a good profit in hand, we must sell them, else, just like many of us who frequently investing in altcoin, will end up with worthless altcoins in our wallet.

I have also seen alts that once have decent market cap but with time they lost all that market cap and now are no where to be seen in the crypto  market. There are only few alts which we can invest for long term like Eth, rest of alts are recommended for short term only. Which means you need to quit an alt, when you are getting decent profit and don't wait for further increase in price. It's only Bitcoin in crypot market whose value keep on increasing with time and its useless to expect same pattern from any alt.

If you still have hope on the coins, you can still hold them because it is the bear market that affects the price of the coins, and you probably don’t expect the project to go this dip, but now that they are worthless, they can still get some value when the new bull run comes; even if you will not be in profit, you can recover some money and still make profit in some of the worthless projects.

Furthermore, when buying coins, it is good to check the project very well so that you will know project with strong community and good value to the community, so that it can survive the bear market.

There are those who still believe such tokens can recover their price, so they can finally sell for profit. At same time, there are also those who continue holding because they see no point in getting rid of them, since no good at all can be achieved through this.

In my personal case, I still have many SLP from the time I played Axie Infinity, but considering the price I used to sell during the ATH, I don't feel motivated to sell it right now, because low profit will be made. Then the tokens remain stored.

In your case of the SLP tokens, do you think the price will come back up to make selling worthwhile?  If not, would it be better to sell now than to risk further profit loss?  If I'm looking at the right token, I see ATH was $0.41 USD but is now $0.0007 USD.

To be honest, I do not really think SLP token can come back to as high as 41 cents. The most it can still touch seems 20 cents and that is where I would sell my shares. Selling at the current price is already bearing a huge loss. I assume you can still take some risk and keep holding to see if you can at least recover your loss. Instead of selling at loss, it is always a better option to keep holding for a really long duration and try forgetting about that investment.

You can keep those funds locked for a few years but can set a few take-profits. Stop loss might not be that important because the price is already at a rock bottom and I don't think it can slide further.

OP, I have like three different alcoins specifically two are memecoins but I too ashamed to name them because I had them when I didn't know much about the cryptocurrency stage, I left them there without selling because I knew they would be worthless and it's not worth the stress, maybe seeing this post will make me go back to check on them but now I deal strictly on Bitcoin investment.

Sometimes when I look at the coins, I feel very regret because bought them at high prices and they are lying in dead condition. If the tokens lying in dead condition had value then I could redeem a good amount of dollars, but I am sure that opportunity will never come again.

Yeah, I still hold a few altcoins which are worthless now but I still have some hopes. I am not expecting any good returns from those holdings but want to see if things are really change here in cryptos? The altcoins I am holding were worth less than a hundred dollars but now they have simply lost all of it's value and is sitting worthless in my wallet. These tokens do not really harm my wallet so I would not offload them and keep holding for a few more years expecting a miracle.

But yes, altcoins and tokens are a tricky business now. Not all of those coins is going to make you earn profits. The time spent in research is way more as compared to the past because sorting these coins is just getting trickier.

True. In the past, we could get huge money from varied altcoins. Now, we still can get good money from altcoins but it is from certain altcoins only. I myself only can get good profits from top altcoins, I rarely get profits from random coins or small coins. Considering this change, we need to be more careful in altcoin investment.

I also still have useless tokens in my wallets. I don't care with them anymore because they are likely dead tokens. Many tokens have no future anymore because of many reasons. Some of them failed because of the competition among altcoin projects, others failed because of the bad quality of developers or even the developers are scammers.

The best way is never looking at our useless coins/tokens. There is no value to look at them anymore, it just rises the regret. There is no way that we can do to the useless tokens.

That is quite true, there are people who must have invested some reasonable amount of money into some altcoin and it wouldn’t be very good for people to invest and loose money, so they will still definitely be keeping hope alive while holding the altcoins rise again, but what I don’t understand is that do they still keep buying and staying consistent in buying those altcoins.

There was a certain time I bought an altcoin and this altcoin made waves in the market, people made some profits some people refused to sell and hoped for more profits, well I decided to sell mine, after selling for the short time profit few months later the altcoin started showing weakness, the project was looking more like a failure.

Some people must’ve lost their money, and some people must’ve made profits as well, and there are still people who must be holding that altcoin and still feeling like their is hope for them in the future, hoping the altcoin is going to make massive wave again, so nobody knows exactly what is going to happen, you just have to keep hope alive.

Those who invested a large amount of money in the altcoin market during the hype of the last few years in the hope of making a profit have suffered the most losses. The hype of the previous year completely destroyed the altcoin market, there is no guarantee when it will recover.

Yes, I had the ones I bought and the one gotten from airdrops, I used $40 to buy the token name Julswap long time ago, it's worthless at the moment, another one was MuFi, a music based finance that does zero performance throughout the operations. All worthless and went down to zero value today.

Trashed coins and tokens are better left in the wallet, instead to waste your money on gas fees to burn them off your wallet, the thing is that altcoins have a very funny way of reacting to market, but even if altcoins seasons happens again and most altcoins could pump, not those which value have already gone to zero their will not follow up such an altcoin season recovery, but those that still have some level of market value could eventually make some good market appreciation when that happens.

Those tokes have things in common. During the 2025-2025 bull run, many of them were doing numbers, the altcoin you don't expect were doing $700m FDV, $300m market cap, if you check the market info of some now, they are not upto $100m FDV, they don't even have volume to handle large order because many people have move on to another coins they can make the same profit, many people are not having patience again for long term commitment.

The market is becoming diluted with tokens, when I hear people say crypto is going to change the world, we are revolutionizing the entire word with a new tech, I don't know if this is what they mean but certainly this is not going anywhere, no way we are not going to walk up to anyone with this useless coins and says they are safe and better investment than traditional investment, they are not.

The best thing is to sell altcoins asap before it fall and have no market price. You can make it BTC ,ETH or stable coins but not to keep those alts.

Well I don’t have any altcoin now, I’m mostly focusing on buying and holding bitcoin. I’m just curious why people would be holding altcoins, I absolutely don’t understand how people can afford to hold on to altcoin for a very long period of time, so since those altcoins doesn’t have value in the exchange market what then do you do about such things, if I’m going into altcoin is for short term gains, as soon as I have my profit something as a quick profits I’m running away from altcoin by taking my profits, I’m not a fan of ETH, but I have always said that if I want to diversify from buying bitcoin, I will approach ETH but right now I’m not fully convinced on ETH.

This is what I usually do with past ICO tokens I bought and receive before, I don't bother to spend time and fees to dump it. Since somehow we cannot get any good value even if we sold it now.

If they just think a possible revival might going to happen, if altcoin season comes. Then they are wrong, since once the token is dead for sure that there's zero chance that it will experience another huge pump again.

For anticipating that season, better focus on top alts.

I don't have meme coin or shitcoin. But from what I heard, during the height of it's hype there could be a lot of investors who fall for it. And maybe up to this day, they could be holding some of them. Not that they are waiting for a new all time high, but it could be that they are late in selling it. Could be their problem as they are greedy and might think that it's going to continue to go up. Until it's too late that they can't get it out in time and now they are trap. Most likely, this is a very expensive lessons for them as they didn't get anything out of it.

Till now, meme coins are launched every blessed day. There is one they started recently, they called it Robinhood. That one was the worse of them I experienced. When I saw the trend among crypto communities, I decided to give it a shot and to my surprise, all of them were just after the creator fees. They were not really interested in if the coin gives you profits. As long as you buy and sell the coin, they are going to make money from the creator fees.

As bad as the old coins looks today, there is possibilities of experiencing another one that is worse than this meme coins. You know they used to say that ICO were the worst time to experienced right. Meme coins came and they did the worse in the market, Robinhood chain launched the worse of them. We will see another one when the bull run start and it's going to be worst than what we have experienced. You just have to avoid them.

Anyone who still sits with a fake fact that altcoins depends on Bitcoin dominance is a fool, it's been how many years that the chart refused to dump hard like it used to do?

Today it's better to look at the USDC.D + USDT.D chart, it's more accurate than that Bitcoin dominance, to me it's now about buying  low and selling when retracements begins, trade your altcoins, do not hold them.

It's not more 2017 or 2021 where millions of people changed their lives, today if Bitcoin coughs -10% these shitcoins coughs -50%.

I think this is the one of the reason why altcoins don’t have value anymore. There’s some altcoins project that they lunched few months ago that so many users was hope for to get a lots of profits, but at the end of day the coins lose value in few days. Unknowing that this is the reason behind, the time to make a profits in altcoins has passed away since, whereby there’s some of the people that are still wasting their money to buy more tokens and keep them in their wallets.

Ever since the altcoin market started misbehaving i don’t have permission for the altcoins projects again, because is just be like wasting of energy and money. I know that their are some that are still holding the altcoins, those who think that the market can be better in future.

Yes, I do have tokens like that that I'm still baghodling; though not intentionally. Since they've lost economic value and can't even be traded, I don't see anything else I can do than to ignore them instead of throwing away my seedphrases to them. It's not like I'm hoping for a miracle for those seemingly lost tokens to be revived some day. If that ever happens, it will be the 9th wonder of the world. As for those whose prices have dipped considerably, but whose devs and teams are still building and haven't abandoned, I'm encouraged to keep hodling them. This crypto space is a classical example of, "never say die". Anything is possible.
