BTC as collateral for borrowing without selling.

Are you another one of those who’s bought into that message Saylor popularized? For starters, familiarize yourself with the saying, “Not your keys, not your coins.” Plus, some people started borrowing when Bitcoin was at $126K and ended up getting liquidated.

Borrowing against your assets isn’t anything new—the ultra-wealthy do it. But if they have, say, $20M in assets, they might borrow $1M for expenses, so that if there’s a major market crash, they’re not affected. However, this strategy became popular among the masses, and more than a few people tried to do it with their $10K, only to get burned.

As for adoption, I don’t see there being much greater retail adoption in the future. Right now, owning Bitcoin is like owning stocks or gold, with the difference that you can buy some things directly with it, but its primary use is as an investment. And while institutional investment largely drove the biggest cycle, I think it has actually made things worse by turning Bitcoin into another Wall Street-style asset.

What did you mean as payment? Bitcoin can be used for paying for goods and services and it can be transferred to anyone you want to transfer it to so far you have the amount of bitcoin the person is expecting to receive.

I think OP actually doesn’t feels like bitcoin isn’t used as a payment means much enough and it’s why it is listed above there. But that’s actually not true because there are many who uses bitcoin for payment options most especially those buying through online stores and paying through them with bitcoin this is much easier. So OP needs to know that bitcoin has always been used as payment option and that use of bitcoin is still growing.

It's possible OP refer to staking approach that lock your own Bitcoin with locktime for certain duration. When it's locked, you may get altcoin as reward or voting right on certain altcoin network. But the APY rate is very low (below 1%) on platform such as Babylon, so it's not even worth to consider, unless you own tons of Bitcoin.

I think i perfectly understand this now and aside Babylon there is also the liquid network (LBTC) which allows staking but they are just pegged to bitcoin and they centralized also, so I will warn OP about this too, we all know what recently happened to liquid network as they got hacked

we should also not forget that many people in underdeveloped countries use Bitcoin as a currency because it is their only option since they do not have a bank account. The general impression is that Bitcoin is digital gold, but it is much more than that for those who know how to recognize its potential.

Not only that they do not have banks but even if one has banks you are much safer and it’s less frustrating to use bitcoin for cross boarder transactions because with banks you would to undergo certain rigorous bank policies in this underdeveloped countries; like having to convert your fiat currency to another currency like US dollar before it is converted to the destination currency. All this actually attracts more fees too

I think his main concern should be massive adoption, because everything he mentioned is already part of Bitcoin. As more countries realise the importance of having an alternative digital currency like bitcoin, they may eventually remove those restrictions and allow Bitcoin to be used by more people, including governments. What ever is holding them back will be a little turn around.

From what I read about Babylon, although they are centralized, they still allow you to have full custody of your coins even during the staking period. However, that doesn't mean there won't be other security risks involved. Personally, I don't think the rewards are worth the risks.

What do you think will be the biggest use case for BTC beyond simply holding it?
Have you noticed that all this time Bitcoin is used by everyone in the world as a global cross-border payment tool, which is identified as censorship-free and the fastest.

You can imagine that large companies such as merchants or Microsoft are international companies that are known to the majority by using one of the crypto payment gateways such as Bitcoin, Have you not noticed that if you make a transaction with Bitcoin, your transaction cannot be disturbed, blocked by any party, not the same as traditional banks and others, isn't that the biggest use of Bitcoin apart from storage and investment assets.

Isn't Bitcoin part of technological innovation which is the development of blockchain technology as the main basis for digital currency services that are safe to use throughout the world, I think you have a lot more to learn about the uses of Bitcoin other than storage, you will know a lot more for that.

Are you another one of those who’s bought into that message Saylor popularized? For starters, familiarize yourself with the saying, “Not your keys, not your coins.”
If they want to learn about that, they can start with this video.
Bitcoin Q&A: Not your Keys, Not your Coins.

Quote
Plus, some people started borrowing when Bitcoin was at $126K and ended up getting liquidated.
They don't invest but speculate with the market and by borrowing money, leveraging their positions, they become gamblers. If they don't change their risky practice, their positions with leverages will be liquidated sooner or later. The market does not care who they are while it only cares about leverages used by gamblers in the market, and market makers, exchanges will trigger short squeeze or long squeeze to have market liquidations.

The interesting part is watching Bitcoin move from digital gold to infrastructure people can actually build on.

Native BTC lending, staking, payments, DeFi the next phase is about putting the Bitcoin people already hold to work without giving up custody.

What do you think will be the biggest use case for BTC beyond simply holding it?

From a businessman's point of view. Its biggest use case is its decentralization factor. Because if you hold a good business within or across borders. You don't need to rely on any third-party involvement to make a successful transaction or a payment. I personally really don't like the traditional finance system, and those who really understand how it works are also fed up with traditional finance systems. This is why they are really well aware of the best use case for Bitcoin, which is its decentralization factor. This means your money is in your custody, and you hold the main power.

But in the traditional finance system, you don't hold your money, and you rely on centralized systems (banking systems) to make any transaction. And holding your well-earned money in banks is not safe, in my point of view, due to many factors. The main one is the inflation rate, which devalues one's money over time. Another fact is that banks use our money to grow their networks and businesses. This is why it is always better to use Bitcoin or hold your money in Bitcoin rather than holding your money in banks for the long term. This is my point of view. DYOR!

It's not even about adoption anymore, BlackRock is here, institutions are here, they have taken over the hype business and this will leads to more adoption anyway, but my point is individuals needs to abstain from creating awareness themselves.

The $5 wrench attack is getting scarier day by day, it's no longer the individuals thing to talk about Bitcoin or try to create awareness, leave all that to institutions.

It's only a deaf and dumb person that will say that they've never heard about Bitcoin, if the president of US is talking about it then everyone around the world knows about it, stop risking your life thinking you are helping Bitcoin.

The biggest use case of Bitcoin is payment purpose and I think that's the biggest use case of Bitcoin so far, followed by holding, I stand to be corrected if I am wrong. Bitcoin is used by majority of people for carrying out transactions on a daily basis, even if these other use case fully emerged it can not dominate the volume at which people use Bitcoin for transactions on a daily basis.

There is always chance for becoming stronger, getting better adoption and with Bitcoin, it's true for its future adoption too.

Before Bitcoin Futures in late 2017, people hoped for that. Before January 2024, people wished to have Bitcoin Spot ETFs in the USA and after more than one decade since a first Bitcoin Spot ETF application in the USA, they got it in January 2024.

After Bitcoin Spot ETF approvals and actual operations in the USA, huge capital from Wall Street began to be spent in Bitcoin market but surely there will be potentially more. In coming years, when the world get escape from financial recession since Covid-19, money will be spent in risky and emerge markets like Bitcoin.

Bitcoin will go further into mainstream in coming years.

For now, the first is that it should be used as a decentralized payment system. And all the countries that are going to decide to use Bitcoin as a reserve to make strategies should recognize Bitcoin as their strategic reserve. And in the future, different countries of the world should accept Bitcoin as a strategic reserve.
The second is that it is accepted as a loan or as a loan collateral in banks and can be traded freely.

Bitcoin used as a strategic reserve still has the same function when we simply hold Bitcoin. Its hedging ability will still be demonstrated.
Likewise, the use of Bitcoin as an asset that can be collateralized does not change the fact that Bitcoin is seen as an asset that has value.
What may be difficult for us to see is mass adoption regarding the use of Bitcoin as a legitimate transaction tool.
