Livestock business is not want you will venture into with out be thought and guild by someone who has the experience who has been in that category for long, meanwhile your friend can also ask google some questions and make some researches but I will still say he meets someone who is doing such business for more clearifcation, for a start he can get few cattles male and female provided he has a land and also make a shelter were they can rest, starting with few will make him identify his mistakes quick, if there will be a lost it wouldn't be much and as time go he will be understanding more how he can control a more numbers of cattles.

There is a difference between practical learning and online learning. As there are some things that one will understand better if they learn it practically just as you said. If one wants to venture into any business without enough knowledge, it is better for them to ask someone who is more experienced to guide them, but they also have a part to play as they don't have to rely entirely on one source of information. This can help their business grow, as they will be able to deal with challenges.

It is very wrong for someone to see his colleague in business and decided to go into that all because his colleague is doing absolutely great, many businesses have collapsed due to this kind of mindset, starting the business from the grassroots is the most important thing, because that will help you to learn more about the business and also will give you more experience on how it is being run. Sacrifice your time and effort to learn this from someone who have the experience, the market is never too late for anyone and that is why we have to take our time to know how to navigate in the business to avoid being kick out from the environment.

Start watching podcasts of entrepreneurs on youtube, there's a lot of it. And that person can get idea which one he prefers if it's okay or not.

We can have the opinion and say that this is going to work and profitable but, in the usual and actual case that might not be for him.

for a start he can get few cattles male and female provided he has a land and also make a shelter were they can rest, starting with few will make him identify his mistakes quick, if there will be a lost it wouldn't be much and as time go he will be understanding more how he can control a more numbers of cattles.
If he's got vast land, that's possible but if he's starting from scratch. Is he willing to get that land for those cattles?

Please if there is any idea you can share here many I wouldn't mind sharing them with him to know what it takes to run such business.
I don't know why people keep bothering others on what they can do research about online. There is a lot of YouTube videos on lecture concerning livestock farming, and he can as well ask meta AI on his WhatsApp, everything will be displayed from A-Z. Well if he insists on either cattle, sheep, pig, fish and poultry farm, it's a good and lucrative business. But there is no assurance that he will succeed emidiately, one thing people do is to look after profit without doing proper research to know the risk associated with it, and they will end up losing when they are too focused on profit instead ways to improve and be productive. There is no business without risk, he should start small, I think $100 can start that business with just a male and female depending on what it costs in your location, them he can build a pen for them and be feeding them till they grow up and start reproducing. That business is a business of patience, not what you venture and start making profit instantly.
Starting any business is comparatively quite easy now due to the online resources available. One needs a strong will to start a business and if they really have the desire, a lot of free resources will help in getting the required knowledge. AI plays a really vital role here. Anyone can use AI as their personal assistant not just to get a few things done but also to learn more about starting and running a business. Livestock farming does need some experience. Without experience, things would get out of hands pretty quick.

Hiring an expert to bring the experience on table can be a good option for people lacking experiences. We don't need to do every single thing but we need to be able to hire the right person to get the job done.

Having a successful business is not just about having money or opening a shop.  A good business needs good planning, patience, consistency, and the willingness to learn. There are few step's to take if you wanted a successful business, firstly you need to understand what people actually need. A business becomes valuable when it provides something that people are willing to pay for. You also need to manage your money properly, Customers service also matters. People remember how you treat them and how you also welcome them. Marketing is also important because people cannot buy from you if they don't know your business exists and type of business you do.

You are right,  the need of an experienced personnel in any business we intend getting involved in is the best way to success.  This reminds me of an incident I encountered last year at a fish farm,  then a fish farmer that had no mentor stocked above his capability with hope and believe he can raise then based on his belief.  Apart from stocking above his capability,  he over stocked them in each ponds all because he has no idea about it and after harvest he lost his invested capital and went home in regret.
On this,  assuming he listened and never worked without a mentor he won't have lost all as he did. So the best operational pattern is never to get involved in any business without having an experienced person to help provide solution to some unknown situations.

You see, when we see someone succeed in a particular business, what it only shows is that an opportunity exists, but it really doesn’t show what really goes on behind the scenes. Their overall experiences and strategies may completely differ from your own and there’s basically no guarantee that yours might work, so when one sees that others are succeeding in a particular business or opportunity, rather than delving in, the most rational move to take would be to try to understand why that person’s model is working.

That's solid advice, if you ask me, because jumping into a business with a big herd without real hands-on experience is how some people burn capital fast. However, I do add that there's still a need to map out the local market first for those who actually buy the animals or the meat, the prices they pay at different times of the year, and how reliable those buyers are, because even with good management, if the demand or the selling channels are weak, the business still won’t be successful no matter how carefully he executes everything you said. That said, starting small (maybe 5–10) and working with experienced farmers is probably the safest way to test both the practical side and the cash-flow reality before scaling.
One thing that’s also worth noting is the time that it usually takes before the money invested is recovered. Cattle rearing isn’t just like some other regular businesses, it can tie up capital for months, or even years, so it’s crucial for anyone going into such business to understand the cash flow cycle and also have enough funds in place to cover expenses without having to depend on early profits. No matter how profitable a business might look, things would definitely become difficult if one runs out of capital before the business reaches maturity stage.
Yes, you're right about the time it takes for the invested capital to be recovered, but this is something i believe applies to every investment setting, not only the farming aspect, because a lot of businesses have gone down the drain because of this and the lack of proper monitoring by the owner.
For a business to thrive, the owner needs to believe that it will take at least a year before the invested funds can be recovered or spend a dime from the business funds for personal expenses.

A friend want to venture into business and was asking me to share with him things that are involved that particular business, but to be frank I am not into that business for me to share idea with him.
He said of wanting to venture into rearing of cattle's and how lucrative such business could be?

Please if there is any idea you can share here many I wouldn't mind sharing them with him to know what it takes to run such business.
This is my kind and piece of advise to your friend, he should ask him or herself crucial questions before admitting and become persuasive towards his or her goal of venturing into cattle rearing. The truth is, cattle rearing is a profitable business which the stipends that will be coming in will be gigantic but there are more factors to look out for. We're talking about the security, the feeding, how much it costs to buy cattle, acquiring your own acres of land because that'd be the home of these cattles because you wouldn't prefer these cattle roam around and destroy crops on farmer's farmland.

One of the best advise is for your friend to visit those people who rear cattles and ask them reasonable questions on how to start, the loses and profits that will be coming and now to balance the scale where profits will surpassed losses. For me, I do not believe everything I see others doing, I just have have to go closer to figure out what's the weakness of the business and also the strength.

Undergoing mentorship is a verified way of becoming good at what you're learning because you're gathering expeimce from someone that are has gotten the expeimce previously and this saves you time and losses ifnypu learn well. Mentorship is worth it when the person that you're understudying has already been successful himself and not scam artists because we have lots of them pretending to be successful both on and off line. Succeeding in business doesn't have only one way but you need some qualities to know that you'll become successful and one of those is determination and passion because if you do the business, you'll give up before you make it, business takes time to mature so you've to be willing to give your business time, you also have to know when to call it a failed experiment and try something different.

I doubt I agree with on that. As a business owner you shouldn’t rush to tahe money from your business for personal use. But also i don’t think a year should be a fix rule for all business. Most businesses can recover their capital in a few months while others might be more than or even a year self. But knowing your expected cash flow cycle before getting to start it the most important thing.

As a business owner you should be able to tell how much money your business ness to be able to keep on running and you can take profit. With this you should be able to  prevent the mistake of going to treat you capital as a personal funds too early.

And I got to understand that the reason why a lot businesses or investment fails before maturity is because the investor or business owner is mostly after quick profits. They just assume that every business is the same, so they apply the time frame/horizon or time of maturity meant for another business to the one they’re doing without even conducting an extensive research about how that particular one works and before you know it, they’re already taking profits when in fact they’re meant to be reinventing and compounding every profit back into the business.

Let him go to fulani people gather them and buy 5 female cows and 2 male cow's, have a monthly budget for feeds and water, a big space of land and a fence, having stead ventinary doctors for their treatment.

But very important he have experience on his own instead of relying on comments on random forum members who's experienced may differ based on individuals and their locations.
It may be a local thing, but who are Fulani people? Monthly budget is important though. I had land and some animals, but not for business, only for self use. I was not the one managing them because I kept them in the village, and you know, commission-based management. I don't know what the local term for you, here we say Vag.

Anyway, it's funny that something like this is being discussed here, but this is not surprising at all. But I am more keen to know why the OP would even create a topic here. I would never in my life gather the courage to do something like this haha.

Fulani people are one of the major tribes in Nigeria, west Africa that are known for their cattle rearing ability. But then, just like other animal farming like poultry, cattle rearing has been modernized in several ways, so it can't be addressed as a local thing even as it can also be done locally.
Cattle meat and milk is a global commodity, I stand to be corrected and so there's actually nothing wrong to bring up such talk here knowing how important cattle is to humanity.

Once, I was in the hospital, lying next to a man who was actually in the meat business. So, he had his own small herd of cows and bulls, and he also traveled around the villages buying calves and cows at the live‑weight price. He was quite wealthy. It was a kind of family business for him. However, running a herd, even a small one, is no easy task. It’s hard work every day. If only because you have to wake up almost at 4 a.m. As far as I remember, this was before COVID.

Since then, the situation has changed quite significantly, as large agro‑holdings have begun to put pressure on private farms through officials, sanitary inspectors, and so on. In other words, it is becoming increasingly difficult for small farms to run their livestock businesses.

The point is that you can start a business and even start making some profit, but then the situation changes dramatically and everything falls apart. Or yesterday I read a story about a small business that makes cookies. The situation there is somewhat different. The business was generating revenue, but it quickly deflated because demand was incorrectly predicted.

Exactly, cattle are a global commodity and they are important in the lives of everyone in this world, not just locally. Though, not many people have the ability to invest in poultry, especially when it comes to cattle rearing as some people believe it to be a stressful business, despite the fact that it has been modernized. So, that is why it's important for one to understand how things work, whether it's poultry or cattle, before taking any steps toward it. This will help them to prevent some mistakes that could affect them in the future.

I think that the place of getting information from an online source is just so you get basic knowledge on the field you are getting into. while such knowledge is good, it is worthy of note that such knowledge alone can not lead to your success in the chosen field you are pursuing. in addition to whatever information you gather in this place and through any other channel, you need to get things back to the grassroot and look out for what will work for you based on the peculiarity of the things that is available to you.

If you learn the art of cattle rearing online and think that you are going to just prosper in it without doing proper physical research from those that are actually doing it around, you are bound to encounter massive challenges.

Rearing of cattle is a good business ,but I believe such business is mainly for the northerns ,they are good at it ,but if your friend is so interested ,there is no harm in trying ,maybe he will be favoured, and then again if he want to venture into cattle business there are some researches that should be carried out , because money is involved and it's not something you will just jump into ,even people go to school to study about such business, so it's best to be equipped and have good knowledge of what you are going into.

If you yourself have no idea about business then you tell your friend that you have no idea about business. If you have no idea then you cannot advise your friend according to the advice of others. Let your friend do his own research.

Cattle rearing is not a bad business. If your friend can be hardworking then he can start this business. Personally I rear cattle and get good profit from it.

You're right, there's no point you offering advice to someone especially on a business idea you have no knowledge or understand on, it is better you tell him that you don't have any idea on that type of business instead of trying to help and just may be if things goes wrong or loss you might be blamed for it.

In business whether cattle rearing or any other business, I think personally that most knowledge and understanding isn't based on  research or things you read on books, but on daily practice, like you taking your time to meet the rearers and learn from scratch, get to know the things required and also watch how things and activities are done on daily basis there

Capital is the number one thing, second thing is Identifying or sourcing your product, that's what you want to sell, Thirdly is identifying your consumer or customers and lastly is management and your consistency in running of the business.
Once you put all these basic things into account then and if you manage the business very well, gradually you become successful in your business overtime, Note: I doesn't happen like a magic, it a gradual progress and boom you would one day become a successful business owner.
