15th Anniversary Tribute · 2011-2026

This month marks the 15th anniversary of Casascius Physical Bitcoins.

In September 2011, Mike Caldwell offered the first Casascius Physical Bitcoins for sale, helping establish what would become the world of physical Bitcoin collecting.

I didn't want the anniversary to pass unnoticed.

So I created Casascius XV, a small Finite by Design tribute to the physical Bitcoin that helped start it all.

15 years. Two metals. 15 of each.





BRASS EDITION

40 mm laser-engraved brass.
15 individually numbered pieces, 01/15-15/15.

STAINLESS STEEL EDITION

40 mm laser-engraved stainless steel with selective MOPA color treatment, including a gold-toned Bitcoin symbol and subtle tonal treatment across the radial fields.
15 individually numbered pieces, 01/15-15/15.

Both editions carry a Finite by Design tamper-evident hologram with the private key concealed beneath it. Three concentric rings of binary surround the reverse as a nod to the design language of the original.

An Artist Proof and ZERO of each material are retained by Finite by Design outside of the numbered editions.

CASASCIUS XV | ANOMALY REVEAL

Now that both editions are completely sold out, I can reveal one detail that I intentionally kept quiet during the release.

The original Casascius coins famously included an early variation in which CASASCIUS was misspelled, missing one of the S's.

As a small nod to that bit of Casascius history, I intentionally recreated the same anomaly on one matching pair within Casascius XV:

CASACIUS XV

One exists in brass and one in stainless steel.

The anomaly was incorporated before the release and intentionally left undisclosed until both editions had completely sold out, so it couldn't influence which pieces collectors chose.

Interestingly, the matching pair ended up going to two different collectors.

I won't reveal the serial number here. Part of the fun is finding out who received them.
