What did I miss from 2023 to now?

Hello everyone,
​I was very active in crypto industry from 2018 to 2023. In that time I learn many things like Bitcoin, altcoins, ICO, DeFi, GameFi (play to earn), crypto bridges, halving, NFT, staking, Web3, Metaverse, AMMs, yield farming... so much things I am even forgetting now.
​After that I totally move to different industry and stop following the market. Now I want to know, what did I miss from 2023 until today? What are the new big trends?

There is no much big trends for now than RWA tokens. But there have been some RWA tokens in the past like PAXG, XAUT and few other ones, but it is now the trend as other ones like tokenized stocks, metals and commodity have been included. You can trade them on crypto exchanges now.

Memecoins have been strong since 2023 but I don't See a bright future for Memecoins anymore as it has been a temporary Hype for a few years and Memecoins are losing Position in CoinMarketCap again.

Cryptocurrency ETF's became a big thing. Right now Michael Saylor alongside other whales is leading the charge on Bitcoin ETF's. Altcoin ETF's are also in the game but they have not grown yet to a hype or anything similar...

ICO's are dead, thankfully.

What else... Well the world is starting to adopt cryptocurrency at a stable rate but that is not new. I just thought to mention that the demand for cryptocurrency is still quite high and has not dwindled as many say it would.

Not many things changed from 2023 until today, but the only more automations in doing daily trade and most of tokens even meme token can be paired with the stock tokenization such as NVDA, CRCL, and etc due to the approval of stock tokenization issuance. For a small insight, i give you a picture about the growth of crypto stock commodities.

Beside that there is also a blockchain called robinhood being dedicated for the stock tokenization purpose such as Robinhood. A part from that prediction market is also getting massive because it provides you a place to gamble in everything.

So far those are the new trends, and those trends are slowly getting bigger here. The other is still relatively the same such as meme and etc.

Thanks for the summary, stock tokenization really does seem like a big shift. I've also noticed a lot more buzz around AI agents and DePIN lately, so those might be worth a look too.

Almost all of those you've known are dead except bitcoin and altcoins who are reputable. The halving for bitcoin will continue to happen but a lot of those buzz from metaverse, nfts and those others that you have mentioned are no longer a thing these days. If you're still interested in some of it like yield farming, I'll be careful with it. Because many of the hacks are also happening in it and of course with the centralized exchanges.

Almost all the real world asset will soon be tokenized because that's the current trend. Imagine, when you can buy gold and trade gold on crypto exchanges. However, from 2023 till date, we have seen a lot of projects (memecoins) popped up and fade away at the same time.

Institutions are now part of bitcoin after the lunch of Bitcoin ETFs and that has also reduce the volatility in bitcoin compared to previous circles.

You didnt miss as much as you think.  It is mostly the same circus with a few new labels. 

a few things that i would single out:

- Solana and memecoins comeback (and pump.fun became a thing)

- Bitcoin ETFs. Blackrock and others got spot etfs approved, so institutional money drives the cycles now.

- AI hype

DeFi, NFTs and ICOs are mostly dead now.  everything else is pretty much the same.

You haven't missed anything, except few memecoin that was built on Solana then started trending but fade away after then, as Charles Tim had said, that RWA assets are beginning to come into the game, stocks are now tokenized. SPCX is now accessible as tokens on various centralized exchange, someone talking about Bitcoin ETF, you could take a look at that too.

Agree with the others, you don't really miss nothing much, almost everything is 2017-2023 rebranded, RWA has now become a more popular even though back then we've seen RWA popping up but all of them always about tokenizing real estate, and similar thing which have no market for it, we're now getting RWA stock that actually quite convenient to have, I could diversify my portfolio across stocks from different countries stock market seamlessly.

maybe several things that you should know

• Meme launchpad with curve bonding, some kind of virtual pricing.
• Stablecoin become so common, and there's synthetic dollar where every stablecoin isn't backed by t-bill but it acts as receipt token for deposit
• Perp dexes with huge volume, you can trade derivative directly from your self custody wallet. It existed before 2023 but they become better

Well I don’t know if I should call it being strong, when you don’t see a future in memecoin, it’s just about playing around with memecoins and wasting our time, well if I choose to play around with a memecoin I wouldn’t see a future in memecoin as well just for the short term, just like you have mentioned they’ve lost positions in the market, there is absolutely nothing op have missed because it seems like people have been going round in different circles, there have been nothing special so far, so you didn’t miss anything, it’ just seems like everything is stagnant, few of this memecoins have died off in the market and some few others are just waiting to die as well, which is why I don’t see anything special thing happening with the memecoin.

now crypto has different from before, since pump fun. and other dex or platform do the same thing, now everyone can create their token, so now liquidity is separate to many of them.
if before we always see big pump in some coin, now we will  not the that again, that will be a nice history
