There is no much big trends for now than RWA tokens. But there have been some RWA tokens in the past like PAXG, XAUT and few other ones, but it is now the trend as other ones like tokenized stocks, metals and commodity have been included. You can trade them on crypto exchanges now.
Are you sure? What about AI? AI fits the trend better as it was new. I mean as you said, there is already RWA before. RWA is only like a commoner now that blended well it the market. It became regular due to its origin, as it was backed by real world assets like its name. The internet and being digital is not new but it was by the time crypto came in the scene, had major encouragement for others to tokenized almost anything now.

This is not just for the trend or hype but we can not deny how convenient they too. In the crypto world, there is still a cycle of past trend sometimes (see meme coins). I think there is also something from DeFi's last time. But this is what makes you say that RWA have return in the spotlight.

Hello everyone,
I was very active in crypto industry from 2018 to 2023. In that time I learn many things like Bitcoin, altcoins, ICO, DeFi, GameFi (play to earn), crypto bridges, halving, NFT, staking, Web3, Metaverse, AMMs, yield farming... so much things I am even forgetting now.
After that I totally move to different industry and stop following the market. Now I want to know, what did I miss from 2023 until today? What are the new big trends?
Thanks for your help!

I'm afraid to say you hear alot about this and there trend but you didn't experience their fall. Almost all of them are dead. Only few projects you can point on market cap that are still doing what they were doing back in those years you mentioned. The recent one some has replied you is AI and even that one is dying slowly, most of them that launched within last year and early this year are not looking good, the price and the charts are terrible.

The coin I will proudly say it did well is perpetual Dex of hype. I still don't know the competition in that market and the centralized exchanges but hype is more than what it's doing. The only successful coin that attracted institutional investors, they airdrop billions to people and till now the token is performing well. I'm not sure if it's good as investment now but it worth checking.

The altcoin market stagnated between 2023 and 2026; in fact, altcoin prices remained high only because of Bitcoin's price surge. If Bitcoin's price had remained at $60,000 for years, for instance, altcoin prices would have simply fallen which is why I consider the altcoin market to have been stagnant. What happens is that marketing has become the primary weapon for celebrities, influencers, and wealthy individuals: they create " meme coins " launch massive marketing campaigns, and get people to buy in without caring about the project's utility people just look for a quick profit over a day or two before jumping ship. After two days, the meme coin's value plummets, and it dies. That is what you missed out on during those three years: nothing important.
Altcoins market needs innovation, but nothing is happening. Just because of this, it's stagnated and has had no good movement for years. A few memecoins have used tactics, but they've not worked because they were never about having something positive for investors; it's all about personal interest and a good quick profit. The crypto market is looking for changes, but nothing is happening.
Bitcoin is doing enough, but it's not all about relying on its movement; it's also needed for things that bring good innovations. Memecoins are just a matter of celebrities and influencers who are doing marketing and trying to have more stuff in their portfolio. Even they are also well aware it's not going to help them or anyone else in the long run. Now it's a big question: can the crypto market do something big again, or is it heading for the end without anything new?

Thanks for your help!

Three years is not really a long time; we still have pump-and-dumps and memes. Scams, and hacking are still everywhere, the market is still struggling, and it's struggling to get into the $100k level.
One thing you missed is that the Trumps are making a huge profit in the market because of their political influence.
You should take a look at AI, it's a growing trend that will make you stay and not leave the industry again.
Overall, everything looks fine. Since you've been here, you will be able to catch up because you already know a lot about cryptocurrency.

I don’t really have much to say, and I don’t really think you have missed a lot, I don’t know why you left crypto space during that period of time. We just had some meme coins flood the market, actually most of them are just scam coins, and some of them didnt perform so well in the market. You also missed era of AI coins, I don’t really know the trend which we are going to be expecting next, the market is down now, and everyone is just quite observing the market. Maybe when bitcoin bounces back, we going to experience another trend, most people don’t really release coin during bear market, because they know it’s not going to perform well.

You essentially missed out on a bullish period spanning late 2024 through 2025. There were actually plenty of opportunities to take profits back then.

By the way, looking back at 2023, several new concepts have emerged. Though, admittedly, not all of them succeeded. Many fell by the wayside.
You might have missed some of these:
- Tap-to-earn games (mostly on Telegram)
- Bitcoin spot ETFs
- The bullish era
- And now, RWA (Real World Assets), as others have mentioned.

Now it's a big question: can the crypto market do something big again, or is it heading for the end without anything new?

We don't just have Bitcoin ETF now. We've got ETH, Sol, Doge, Xrp...and probably more to come. Institutions and companies aren't just adding BTC to their balance sheets either, but ETH, SOL ...Banks and financial institutions are working with crypto companies and integrating them into their systems. Even laws like the GENIUS Act and CLARITY Act are taking shape. And you still think nothing is happening and crypto is heading for the end?

Come on man, just because money has been flowing mainly into Bitcoin this cycle and most alts haven't done that well doesn't mean the whole market is stagnant or dying. Price action and performance in one single cycle doesn't capture how far the entire industry's actually come.

The biggest thing I think is going to change is the way crypto interacts with traditional finance. And not that you're going to get a new technology. For those institutions and investors who do not want to manage private keys. Spot Bitcoin ETFs made it easier to be exposed to bitcoin. Another category to keep an eye on is tokenized real world assets. But not all assets are tokenized means they are not all owned. I will also mention Bitcoin Layer 2 experiments and the increase of stablecoin payments. What's fascinating is which of these will have actual users when the current fad drops away.

Nothing much like back then when there use to be a seasonal trends like the altcoins boom of 2018 and etc, but what have been on the news lately combine of both cryptocurrency regulatory framework by countries.

Another recent cryptocurrency hypes is the ETF buying, tokenized stocks and predictions market.

All of that have made headlines in cryptocurrency-related news trends and hypes; altcoins are at the centre of all of that because of their flexibility of use.
Even now we see a few altcoins booming but yes, there are only a few. Before 2018, even ICOs were a trend if OP remembers. There were a number of people benefiting out of these ICOs but that trend disappeared really fast. ICOs soon targetted by the scammers and a number of shady ICOs were launched later. Only those who were able to catch the trend at right time were able to make some profits but there were also a number of people who actually lost big chunks on ICO projects.

We need to be much close to the markets in order to analyse the trend. Jumping in too late is never going to benefit us. So my only suggestion to OP would be to stay close to the industry for a few months and you yourself should be able to identify the trend.

I don't think you have missed anything because few of major trends were back before 2013. I would say mid 2017 is when cryptos gained mass adoption and there have been a few trends following that event. I don't understand why you moved to a totally different industry by leaving the entire crypto industry? You could have still paid side-by-side attention by keeping some minor investment. As we all know, AI is trending as of now so it has impacted every single industry including blockchain.

There are a few AI related projects so you can pay close attention to them. Investing anywhere without proper research would only dent your portfolio so make sure to spend a few hours before you actually invest anything.

To catch up, take time and check out the yearly reviews of reputable news platforms. This is one example that catches and summarizes what happened in recent years

Crypto in 2025: trends, risks and opportunities

Of course, to get more updates on what's happening in the Cryptocurrency industry now, you have Coingecko News to rely on.

The most important thing is to take time, don't be in a hurry to invest until you catch up, and fully understand the market

You haven't missed much. The tokens and majority of altcoins are still as useless as they've ever been and are only moving if they get pumped and dumped. The only thing different from 2018 which you said you were active in, is that back then we were witnessing the bear market and the death of altcoin season so everything was constantly massively dumping. But nowadays that is over and even though altcoins are still on a long term dump trend (the downward spiral) but there can be more pump and dumps.

There is still no innovation in the industry either. We are still seeing the same repetition of hyped up technobabble to get people into buying the illusion and pump the coins for a while before they dump and eventually die.
I think one major change that might have changed is the volatility. Prices seemed to be quite volatile before 2018 but the markets have tend to move a bit slow now. After hitting the ATH of @126k, I don't really think we saw any sudden movement. Yes, we did see a few bottoms but the movement was quite slow is what I felt. So if OP is expecting to make quick money because of the volatility, I say the chances are much less now. I somehow feel the risk associated was way high back in the past.

Trusting alts or tokens was never an option for me. Not now or in the past. I do have a bunch of altcoins but I have spent countless hours analysing them. I would never jump into the project only because it is following the trend.
