I was watching the news today and stumbled across a court judgment happening live in Edo State. I never knew a kidnapping case happened on Sunday in a vegetable market in Edo State. A man was to be kidnapped, but eventually his wife was kidnapped, and a citizen who witnessed the case helped to carry the children. Four defendants have been sentenced to death by hanging as of today.

Importantly, a shop owner who installed CCTV was able to share the footage online. That single act helped the police to investigate the owner of the car, and through him, the kidnappers were caught.

CCTV is very important in our environment. I am urging everyone to try to install CCTV in their workplace, offices, and in their houses to help curb corruption in the country.

Indeed, CCTV camera installation is now a necessity at our homes and workplace for our maximum security. Because this evening while I was scrolling through social media (I.e Facebook), I came across the video when the chief judge was giving his verdict and punishments base on the different counts of their crimes (i.e Count 1,2,3&4). And at first I was a little bit worried when I heard one of the guys sentence to death by hanging, but only to realized later that those guys were kidnappers, and immediately I was happy about the judgement, because if eventually our government could passed it into law that whoever is found committed a crime as a kidnappers, and bandits, I swear the issue about kidnapping would have been a thing of the past.

At least this is a lesson to other kidnappers.

Situations like this is part of the reasons why the first world countries have been able to install CCTV cameras across their streets and main roads, the security agencies will not be everywhere at the same time, so they need an eagle 🦅 eye that can be monitoring activities of human beings in various locations, this development that has been implemented in most first world countries has helped in drastically reducing insecurity, it has not totally eradicated it but help in reducing it to the minimum, there is hardly a crime that will happen in UK or in America that there won't be traces of those that perpetuated those crimes.

The CCTV that was installed in the market, has done a fantastic job by helping to trace the individuals that committed that kidnapping, in the aspect of their sentence into death, I don't have pity on them, this is because most of this kidnappers are very deadly when they succeeded in capturing their captive, as for the ladies you don't want to know what they normally do to those ladies whenever they kidnap them.

The court said they have 90 days to appeal before the state Governor can order their immediate execution. For now, they will remain alive until further notice.

Na today I see d news, my body just weak as d judge Dey pass the judgement, honestly crime no good, those young people have just wasted their life, young boys wey supoose find better thing Dey do with their life, dem choose to go into crime, and d crime don put them for problem. The level of insecurity in Nigeria is alarming, quite unfortunate many don’t know the value of CCTV. This is very significant in our contemporary society now because the level of insecurity and kidnapping is terrifying and everyone needs to buckle up and install a CCTV camera around their buildings to be able to capture their surroundings in case of any incidents regarding to abduction. I have seen so many cases where CCTV footages has save innocent citizens that was charge and arrested for a crime they never committed so it's very important to have a CCTV.

The disadvantage of having one is where there's no constant electricity and the criminals might even destroy the ones they see insight that are visible, some Nigerians might not be able to afford it because it's quite expensive but it's just something we need at this perilous time we have found ourselves as no where is safe anymore. I like this initiative by the Edo State government. There have been so many incidents in the state, including kidnappings and cult clashes, but since the law was passed, it seems like these incidents have reduced a bit. There should be no safe haven for criminals. Some people commit crimes without taking them seriously because they believe they can spend some time in prison and eventually be released to continue doing the same thing. It is really sad to see how many people have suffered at the hands of these criminals. If they are not willing to change and do something useful with their lives, then they should face the consequences of the law.

CCTV is not really the main problem here. The bigger issue is having a good data and identification system. In many Western countries, it is easier for the government to identify criminals when they commit certain crimes because people's information is properly recorded and connected to different systems. But in a country like ours, not everyone is properly registered or easily identifiable. Sometimes, it can take months of stressful investigations just to locate one person. This is largely because we lack a strong and well connected information system in the country.

This reminded me of an incident that happened in the South south, precisely Delta state but I won't mention the local government area. It is happened that the local government chairman was kidnapped right in his hotel premises and no security operative could track down the kidnappers for days until I didn't know what happened, he was suddenly released.
Then, one of the proactive measures taken was to install a CCTV camera in one of the major junctions of the town where anyone coming in or going outside the town must be seen and this only became necessary because the LGA chairman was kidnapped.

Also, it is almost as if only those who are rich, wealthy and well connected in the society install CCTV in their surroundings while those who are of lower class and stay in less lit and rugged environments are left on their own without street lights, security operatives and even CCTV camera to watch the environment.

It would be a good project to install these CCTV cameras in every intersection of every city and major ways because when the security operatives turn a blind eye or are absent from their duty post, there can still be eyes on the streets and this would keep criminals at bay and reduce crime in more ways than we can imagine.
