But the way he talked about changing AI to SI (Super Intelligence) is somehow as if AI is not fit for it. Is it necessary to change the name?

I think Trump is doing all things that will not make his name to be forgotten. Politically I have noticed this about him.

Sounds true, you see, nobody wants his name or legacy to be forgotten, people should remember more of the good side of it and dragging this conversation to Trump, is funny.  He knows what he's doing, changing the name from AI to SI doesn't change the fact that when it takes over like taking care of our jobs while we watch, it only says one thing, which is we as humans are not in control of what we should be doing. The best thing he should do is stop it completely, I mean the development of AI or SI as the case may be instead of saying changing the name will keep humanity safe, no way, I know he won't try to stop it, even if he changes the name from AI to SI or change it from SI to HI (Human Intelligence), we can't be comfortable and safe with it, these guys had already planned out all these things and they want us to be comfortable with what ever comes with it, that is it pure political ideas.

Maybe AI should still remain in use while we should apply SI as an advance AI improvised technology like that which operate with quantum and other technologies serving as an improvement over AI.

So I don't expect the renaming instead we should wait to see more advanced technologies that will have more better features than what AI could do and give them the super intelligence technology.

I kind of think the name he is proposing is not really bad. If renaming is going to make the entire world adopt Ai, and not ban it, I don’t have any problem with it. Provided he didn’t invite them, to let them know that his government has decided to ban Ai, because it poses threats to national security. I would have only had an issue his proposal, if the name change would affect the way Ai works.

He has already gone down in history as the strangest US president ever, and no one will remember him for anything good or meaningful. He dragged the US into an even deeper financial abyss, started a war that he cannot win, destroyed alliances created for decades, and now all he has to do is to get even more rich personally and change the names of rivers, lakes, etc.

Whatever you call it, it's equally appropriate, but paying attention to what the world's top leaders have talked about AI to discuss threats to humans means there are indeed strong reasons to really pay attention to the development of AI. Part of this I worry about, the ability for AI to develop very quickly, because this AI makes everything look quite serious considering that the human ability to control it is not necessarily able to balance the speed of AI.

I have known about artificial intelligence since my childhood days doing computer science, and now he wants to rename that to super intelligence? Wonders never cease to amuse me. I just realized that this official designation needs to be recorded on the official White House website. I believe Trump is defining "SI" for administrative purposes as the technology previously known as AI. However, changing the name in everyone's minds would be difficult, given that the term "AI" has been established for decades; furthermore, it is questionable whether competitor nations like China would be willing to adopt the new term.

I don't think the world will follow, man. "AI" is already everywhere, from companies and media to everyday conversations. If the US government wants to use "SI", that's fine, but that doesn't mean everyone else will.

Also, in the research world, "superintelligence" means intelligence that surpasses humans, and that doesn't exist yet. With the technology available today, using it for that could mislead people into thinking AI is already that powerful.

As a politician, Trump does seem to care about his legacy. His argument that "artificial" doesn't sound good as a brand also rings true. However the items of the safety agreement are more important. It is reportedly voluntary and not legally binding, so the impact of this has yet to be measured. The change from "AI" to "SI" may be merely a rebranding of the same policies. We'll see.

I don't know the motive behind why he wants to renamed Al to SI,  but I don't think changing the name alone would make any meaningful difference. IMO, what should matters more is how the technology is developed, controlled and used, if Donald Trump is going to be remembered for anything, it should be because of the polices and decisions he made during his time in office rather than simply he changed the name of a technology.

Necessary? It's nonsensical attempt of a power move, like he is involved. Same way he tries to rename things and give nicknames to people. It's about illusion of control.

It's not in any way his job, and he has authority or credibility to do it. But any nonsense he babbles is for trying to move talking points of news from Epstein list and his crimes to fake accomplishments.

As far as I know Superintelligence is not actually a new name for AI, but is used to refer to AI that can surpass human intelligence. So just because Trump uses this word, I don't think the concept of AI is not changing. The real discussion should be how powerful AI will be and how to keep it safe.  And why Trump said such a name, is it difficult to say for sure if it is for his own promotion or not.

The change of name is almost an irrelevant discussion as it sounds in our ears. But maybe, he wants to be on the headlines.
I think the present name, AI just suits it more than SI.

It's still a technology developing, and untill we see clearly where it's heading in years to come, it's better it remains with the already known name globally. He should suggest better ways of development rather than a change of name.

Simulated intelligence actually makes a lot of sense.  I don't care what people call it personally.  Names aren't all that important in the big picture.  They can always be changed anyway.

So much renaming...  SI, Lake of America.  It's going to take a second to get used to this new reality.
