I think this is the best place for me to post this, since it’s all about the economy and even BTC

I don’t know if you’re aware, but Brazil is deeply divided between the left and the right, just like in many other countries
It’s the left, with current President Lula, that’s in power

I think everyone knows that Brazil is an extremely corrupt country, but something even more serious could happen here

To put it very briefly, the elections are coming up, they’ll be held this Sunday, October 4, and both sides are obviously locked in a fierce battle

The judges of the Federal Supreme Court are under investigation for an absurd case here in Brazil, and so far no one has been able to stand up to them, since it seems they’re all in on it,
the Senate, Congress, the president, the press, etc

It turns out that yesterday the United States (and now Australia) ordered the closure of all their embassies and consulates on Brazilian soil due to security concerns

Source https://br.usembassy.gov/security-alert-consular-services-suspended/

I'll post more news when we find out more

I mentioned that this has to do with BTC because right now I feel a little more secure having some satoshis in my own custody, since my country could simply ban us from doing something, access our accounts, or even freeze our money

Are you guys following any news about Brazil?

To be honest for me Brazilian news is followed only when the topic is football. However, if I may say that based on the recent issues you mentioned in your op, you should not think that you have to go to such a situation to hold some Bitcoin in self custody. Even if you live in a safe country, I think holding crypto assets in self custody is the wisest thing to do. Because you never know when the government will try to control you or the platform you hold your assets on.

In Brazil, political instability and security risks have historically been present during elections, but I don't think that in the future everyone's accounts will be frozen . And the issue of closing the US embassy is that the US relationship with Brazil has not been very good in the past, and similarly with its allies. So if I say that the US embassy may be temporarily closed only for security during the elections.

Are you guys following any news about Brazil?
No, but reading what you have said of what's happening there is almost the same thing happening in my country. Everyone who's in the higher government position are involved in different kinds of corruptions and they have cases. The judiciary, the legislative and executive are none of them are clean and it is also in relation of the upcoming 2028 national election.

I mentioned that this has to do with BTC because right now I feel a little more secure having some satoshis in my own custody, since my country could simply ban us from doing something, access our accounts, or even freeze our money
Not only ban but it can also lead to the inflation and the depreciation of your fiat money. Very similar to what's happening in my country, if there's a political instability then domino effect is coming. So having our savings in bitcoin really gives us the peace of mind that it can't be touched by any of them and as well as the value being retained and not subject to depreciation due to the issue of politics.

The Us government has something they are interested in Brazil. They don't just move around them for nothing.
Brazil may not want to dance to the tone of the US as, they don't want to be seen as a weak country in the eye of the US government other countries around the world. Though its been a while that the Brazilian have been battling with insecure what makes the citizens afraid of the economy falling apart affecting business and investment. We can not assume if peoples account would be frozen because that depends on the government In position.

I don’t know if you’re aware, but Brazil is deeply divided between the left and the right, just like in many other countries
It’s the left, with current President Lula, that’s in power

I always wonder why people need to be so extreme in their ideology. The right are so extreme while the left are also very extreme. Any extreme ideology is too flawed to be realistic.

To put it very briefly, the elections are coming up, they’ll be held this Sunday, October 4, and both sides are obviously locked in a fierce battle

I would like to be updated on the election tomorrow. It's best to get how things are from somebody who is there on the ground, instead of the biased and one sided updates from the right and the left.

The Us government has something they are interested in Brazil. They don't just move around them for nothing.
Brazil may not want to dance to the tone of the US as, they don't want to be seen as a weak country in the eye of the US government other countries around the world.

Do you guys get a hard-on from just blaming the US for everything? I mean, it's not like the US is good people or something, but just look at how you pinned everything the OP said on the US without stating any point why you think so.  Grin Isn't that laughable?
At least if you want to blame the US, state your points, don't just make a lazy argument and say the US did this and that, because all the OP mentioned was that the embarsies are closing down for the protection of their staff.

Brazil is not the most corrupt country in the world, but what I always admonish about any country and the president is how the were being able to manage and amicably set to any form of agitation from the citizens against the government regime, this is where experience and competencies speaks a lot about how the president can be able to manage with the people intervene on the situation that is ongoing, because this is not about the use of forces, only make things get worse, what divising for a swift response to the cry of the people and meeting up with their demand if not 100% but at least more than 50%.

Whenever it is near election season, most embassy's are asked to shutdown, especially in an election that is very fierce and intensive like the one you are describing, because from your explanation, it seems the opposition is ready for a showdown with the current authority, and current authority would want to use the power of incumbency to try to muscle their way to maintain their power, they will do this by stiffling the opposition, they will use the judiciary and the military. So I need serious government that has an embassy in that country will naturally send a warning to her consulate to either shout down temporarily.

The idea of putting your money in BTC is a welcome development, because you cannot predict what the future holds, so you need to be steadfast, considering the fact that you are in country with political instability.

I honestly had no idea that there were elections in Brazil at all, but I did a little research on what was going on and the conclusion is that the US embassies are closed for security reasons arising from the statements of the current president that the US might interfere and influence the election results.

~snip~
I'll post more news when we find out more

I mentioned that this has to do with BTC because right now I feel a little more secure having some satoshis in my own custody, since my country could simply ban us from doing something, access our accounts, or even freeze our money

It is not bad to have something like Bitcoin in these situations, but there is also a risk because without electricity and internet you cannot do transactions - unless you have some alternative source of energy and satellite internet.

In any case, I hope that the elections will pass as peacefully as possible, and in the end, whoever wins, it is difficult to expect that ordinary people will be better off.

Yes, today is election day.
You can even follow along here if you want to see at least the real-time results of our elections:

https://noticias.uol.com.br/eleicoes/2026/apuracao/

From all the news I’ve seen, I’m still a little confused about the exact and real reason why the embassies are closing

My two best guesses are also what you mentioned: to avoid possible accusations of interference in the results. But if you stop to think about it, what difference does it make whether the embassies are closed or not, if interference would likely come through influence, power, and money?

And my other guess is that there’s some fear of protests or a coup d’état in Brazil posing an imminent threat, and they need to protect the premises full of people, so they preferred to take extreme precautions and avoid any further problems

If there’s any news I think is worth sharing, I’ll post it here again
But please root for us Brazilians, we’re at the mercy of extremely corrupt governments, and crime rates in our country are very high
Economically, it’s a very difficult country to make an honest living in  Undecided

Edit: Oh, I forgot to mention, I just saw a news report that the Federal Police here in Brazil have already opened an investigation into possible interference by the United States.
Probably to protect the current president if he lose election today

Are you guys following any news about Brazil?

No, I'm not following what's happening in Brazil because there's hardly any news coming in our local media, but after reading and since some of the moderators and campaign managers f Stakes are located here and of course, something similar to this could happen here in our country, I will have to follow it now.

Based on my research, these are the highlights of what's happening there. There could be more coming out since the US is involved here.

The coverage has not been enough, its a giant country and matters alot for world growth.  Its the capital B in BRICS after all, as a far remote observer I mostly recognize the inflation troubles and we the global audience have heard some of the election troubles which is never good for long term peace and prosperity.

Trump interferes a bit too much in the southern continent but he is not alone, the overshadowing has been there for decades in one regime or another in south america.   I think they fear the security of it all but it seems more harm is easily caused then good done.

Probably your second guess is probably more on target. It's almost always about physical safety. When there's a lot of political tension, governments are concerned that there's going to be a protests or riots or breach of civil order that will come at their buildings. Locking them down is simply an easy way to protect staff and minimize risk if things turn ugly.

I hope your country heals. What's happening today is dirt and shameless politics, and it's almost where, where these guys do not think of tomorrow. What's happening now, if allowed to continue, could cause chaos eventually, as the little ones continue to learn wrong things from the old fools, thinking it's the right way of life.

It's also good you have Bitcoin, but it will never get to that ugly level, no matter how scary it may look now.

Pick a side already. What side are you on?! The people playing independent and both sides are one of the fakest people I have seen. You're either left or right. Considering the influence of Zionist and the US in Latin America, what is wrong with him having such thoughts and hints? The least you can do is ignore. A strong member of BRICS Brazil is seeing interference in their elections just the way we see evey where. This election reminds me of whatever happened in our 2015 elections. The then president also complained about the interference of the US government in their election. Yet again, democracy makes no sense, I have seen it here before in Nigeria. I'm recognising yet the same pattern in Brazil.

OP,  it's clearly geopolitical and international relations. It should be in politics and society.

Uglies ongoing in France, but you will see the media try to curb the exact information. The exact propaganda used about iran killing protesters, is exactly what has happened in France.

Because I don't want to fall for the brain rot of blaming the US for everything that is wrong in the world is on the US. Even you can see how funny that is. Everything that is bad in any country, you people will quickly say it's the US. It's like a mental illness at this point.
The "zionist" agenda too. Most of you don't even understand shit, but it seems cool to follow the social media hype.

The least you could do is read about Brazil and their elections. They have a history of having politically motivated elections, especially around the election period.
You guys need to heal from this mental illness of not being logical. The only explanation you people can come up with for anything is "The US" or "The CIA". You guys are meant to be more intelligent than that.
If being logical makes me fake, then let me be.
I'm not going to pick a side, because there are no sides. If I see when the US does something bad, I will call them out on it, but when I see where the greedy politicians of a country are ruining their country, and the people of the country keep supporting them, I will call out that country and its people.
You guys need to have a mind of your own and not stop following the easier explanation or what the cool crowd say all the time.

I mentioned that this has to do with BTC because right now I feel a little more secure having some satoshis in my own custody, since my country could simply ban us from doing something, access our accounts, or even freeze our money

Are you guys following any news about Brazil?

I feel relaxed after hearing about the precaution you took to make sure your Bitcoin is safe. Because the first thing the government does during the election period is to cause war within the country that will make the citizens confused. During the process, there will be sanctions on cross border payment apps and restrictions on platforms that benefit the citizens.

Regarding the news in Brazil. It will be hard to see someone following the news if he is not residing there or has a family member who lives in Brazil.

I'll post more news when we find out more

I mentioned that this has to do with BTC because right now I feel a little more secure having some satoshis in my own custody, since my country could simply ban us from doing something, access our accounts, or even freeze our money

Are you guys following any news about Brazil?

I don't follow any news about Brazil, BUT I HAVE noticed that the iShares Brazil ETF surged 15% in value in one day. I believe that the "right" candidate won?

I wasn't actually curious why it surged until I saw this topic.

So apparently there was no outright winner in the election and now it is moving to a run-off that would happen later this month, Oct 25, 2026. Flavio surprisingly scored the higher percentage, but was unlucky not to get up to 50% that's required to win outrightly. But looking at how things panned out in the first round, he now looks to be the favorite over Lula in the run-off.

That said, how was the voting exercise, did the country record violence across voting centers or was it relatively peaceful? It is usually very feisty during presidential elections in my country, and certain foreign nations also try to influence the outcome to their own advantage. So i can understand the reason for the alert prior to the election.

I don’t know if you’re aware, but Brazil is deeply divided between the left and the right, just like in many other countries
It’s the left, with current President Lula, that’s in power
How is it relevant to BTC still? Bro, if the issue is like left and right, and it is in many countries, and yep, that's true too, it's really in many countries. But how does that affect BTC?

People would be affected most when the government shuts down the internet. That's the only way they can stop you from moving funds and using them for your own good because people like us can't get access to the internet unless the government allows us.

Iranians faced problems, a member here gave us real experience by being offline for some time, but this election kind of stuff is not as serious as wars. But still, I don't think there is anything serious about closing embassies and all that, instead it's not a thing at all haha.
