Is NAFDAC still functioning?

A lot of us might have come through circulating videos on social media about fake products that are being sold to people and I begin to wonder if NAFDAC has been dissolved or they are still functioning?. It is really painful that we find ourselves in a country that jeopardise the lives of her citizens if not the NAFDAC boss should have been sacked. There are many fake drugs, fake drinks and fake foods that are sold in this country but we have an agency that their duty is to checkmate the use of foods and drugs and identify fake and substandard products and possibly ban them.

Kidney disease and heart disease has been on the increase in recent, could it be that the consumption of fake foods and drugs aggravated these health conditions?

This very question has been on my mind lately and I've been asking myself series of questions like what are people going to eat then, where should one get original product as most supermarket carriers even fake product as well and to be honest this isn't funny at all as human lives are concerned.

I recently saw some list of fake drinks, foods, and other drug products mentioned online, I don't know if that news was fake or not but some products were listed to be fake and these content creators and bloggers were talking about it, this past few weeks people are complaining about buying fake items and it's damaging their health.

I watched a video where the former vice president Professor Yemi Osinbanjo said his wife was taking orange juice and then was having constant headaches, she took drugs but no solution to it and one day she decided to take the extracted fresh juice to the lab and she was told that the chemical used to preserve the orange isn't good for human consumption and I kept wondering how many people are taking these things without knowing the effect. NAFDAC might be working but they need to put more effort because the rate at which fake products are flooded in the market is alarming, these days there's fear of the things you buy to eat because of kidney issues and cancer problems.

NAFDAC is trying its best, it is Nigerians that should not have the act of wickedness. In May and July 2026 over 7000 fake products are known. There was a time NAFDAC reported removal of over 10 million doses of fake malaria drugs this year and so on like that. Many people are arrested and sent to prison because they are producing fake products. There are many illegal manufacturing places that NAFDAC shut down every time.

The thing is that of recent,  nafdac is no longer as effective the way they used to be. Because if really they were as functional as before, illegal manufacturing centers of foods or drugs wouldn't be in the high the way they are now.

And again, I wouldn't completely blame the nafdac because they are humans as well. I am not expecting them to completely overseas everything by themselves without the help of the citizens.
However, citizenss are supposed to be aiding them with some useful information to enable them do what is expected from them.  Remember, just as they say that security is everybody business, that is how the case of our general safety is supposed to be. Again, curruption from their head. I am also suspecting that this illegal manufacturing factories settles with this agencies as to escape the law and ths is why things isn't changing for better, rather becoming worster by the day.

I think we in diaspora know a lot that is going on in Nigeria than many people living in Nigeria. When I was in Nigeria some years ago, there has always been fake products. It is worse now because the way people were looking for money that time was not as much as it is now and there are more people now. There are many products that rebranded, have ways to confirm if their product is original just because of how Nigeria was before.

Do you know about Dr. Dora Akunyili which was Director-General of NAFDAC from 2001 to 2009? She has a sister that was given fake insulin and her sister died because of that. The fake products battle is not today that it started. You can see how terrible Nigeria was before.

It's so painful seeing what is happening in our country ,nafdac was functioning well before but not now again ,I don't think they really care anymore,and our problem is not longer the leaders but us , imagine the red oil stuff that was circulating few weeks ago , people adding coloring substance to water them add little oil to it just to make more profit whereby indangering the life of others ,we are also doing ourselves at some point ,nafdac has tried their best even tho it's not longer enough, cancer here and there both in children and adult which was not so before , everything has really changed.

Well, I think NAFDAC is trying their best to regulate some drugs and fake drinks that Nigerians sell but mere talking without battling it from the route cause has made it look as if they are not doing their Jobs because their agents go to arrest those that sell the products than going to arrest and ban the industry that produces those illicit material to the public for consumption which has caused a lot of damages to the citizens that consumes them.

On the other note, there are lots of fake drugs in the streets and since the country is known for corruption I think this manufacturers bribe the NAFDAC so they won't be prosecuted and be allowed to sell those fake drugs to the market. People stay in the comfort of their rooms to manufacture drinks and pure water sachets without getting approval from NAFDAC and endangering the lives of the people, I won't fail to say they are no longer effective as before that's why we see many fake drugs in the market.

This is really an issue of concern because the country is so porous that anyone can just start selling harmful products without being inspected by NAFDAC. The National Agency for Food, Drugs Administration Control used tp be very functional in the past as they were exposing fake drugs and foods that were not registered and even burnt them down but today, everything seems to have changed as they no longer care about the health and well-being of people. About a couple of weeks ago, i saw a video where the Nigerian police exposed a secret local depot where fake and unhealthy juice were being made and sold to the public. NAFDAC really need to swing into actions because most of the sickness that people are suffering now resulted from fake things that they consumed into their body system.

This is really concerning, as many fake products are being produced every day, and at the same time many consumers are becoming victims of heart and kidney disease. However, we understand that NAFDAC is trying its best, but truth be told, they also need to try harder because it's obvious that the more they apprehend the producers of those fake products, the more others are becoming smart about hiding so they don't get caught as well.

There's a simple way to verify whether the product you are about to purchase is fake or real, but to do that, you need to visit the NAFDAC official website, which is already provided above:

After that, you enter the NAFDAC registration number in the search bbar,  then click on Verify to know if the product is fake or original. If it's an original product, you will receive the details about the product. I did this for two different products, and the products are original.

Everything is still tied down to a failed system, because I believe some of all these people doing this fake things are all using it as a means to survive even with the fact that they know very well that it's gonna mess up the health and safety of their fellow Nigerians. In this case I can't actually blame whoever is in charge of NAFDAC because the problem is not a new one and it's been ongoing for long. But it's that the number have skyrocket due to dire situation of the country as every average Nigerian is no longer considerate of what they do so far as it gets them money.

Dr. Dora Akunyili made sure that NAFDAC was very functional and the rate at which people rebranded the real products with fake ones wasn't much compared to now, you shouldn't expect that crime would be reduced to zero, people still produced fake stuffs but not compared to now, you can't even different fake products from real ones.

 Poverty rate has made people so desperate to make money, they don't even care if their families or relatives would be affected by those fake products. Nigeria has been more terrible than before and the current DG of NAFDAC has to sit up, cause it seems those criminals are winning the battle.

Yes we still have NAFDAC in this country but for some reasons they have decided to be nonchalant about all this rising issues in this country, actually there is know drink all this people have not duplicated and funny enough they're not even using natural ingredients to make the drinks but instead they're using toxic chemicals on the drinks and distribute it on every shops for people to buy, the height of it was how they have also created a fake drink that children usually take, so actually is getting too much in this country, there was a soft drink I bought last week I couldn't drink it because when I open the drink it wasn't the usual color I use to know so actually this is the time NAFDAC was supposed to be working tirelessly.

This is not true at all, it is like you do not know what you are taking about. NAFDAC are arresting the ones that they know. I can see some videos online about some. But you know how the country is, some NAFDAC officials can truly be bribed, but there are many that are taken down. If NAFDAC officials are bribed, that means that shows how corrupt this country is. Sorry for me being harsh, you should know the reason that I am harsh.

Most of the things we consume in Nigeria are now fake, most of them are just the NAFDAC just claim that everything is fine. I saw the list Fake items which the NAFDAC published online the other day, and I notice that most of the basic things which we use have fake, we just have to be so careful, because the government are not ready to do anything. They already know the fake things we consuming they should go after people producing those things, NAFDAC knows their locations, they are not just ready to fight.

Rate of kidney failure, cancer and other sickness are increasing in the country, and all are caused by the things we consume in the country, when some drugs or goods are imported into the country, NAFDAC are suppose to investigate, and check the legitimacy of the products before they are allowed into the country, but all what they are after is bribe, they don’t care if it’s fake or original.

I have completely forgotten about NAFDAC, this is because of how useless the organisation has become. The level of incompetency and corrupt this organisation has become, is so concerning. It's even we the citizens that are now doing their job for them, whereby someone will want others to know the difference between an original products for its fake counterparts. 50% of things we as a citizen consume everyday are I regulated by NAFDAC, most of them are fake. When there was an allegations that people are adding paracetamol or something inside FUFU , NAFDAC didn't even bother to investigate the matter. Fake drink's are more worse, we can't even know the ones that are carrying the original NAFDAC stamp. The rate at which people are getting sick is alarming especially kidney issues, even someone wants to buy drugs to treat themselves, they will also find out that some of them are fake. It's not like they have money problems to employ more amiable workers to curb the fake production of things. They receive government funding, but it is being used for their personal interest. The FG should just the dissolve the organisation, and a new structured one should be formed. Q

Poverty should never be used as an excuse to why some group of people are endangering the lives of others by selling fake and harmful products. I get angry whenever someone say that they are doing something illegal as a result of Poverty. Everyone is feeling the heat in this country, it's not only the poor people so why should they cause harm to others just because they are looking for means to make money.

NAFDAC used to be a very active body that goes after people who sells fake drugs and fake substances but In recent years I haven't really come across any video where NAFDAC exposed a fake factory or industry where these fake products are being prepared. The NAFDAC boss really need to do something urgently before things will get out of control.

Gone are the days when NAFDAC was one of Nigerian agency that do not compromise with its policy, due to the fact that they dealt with what could affect the lives of the entire citizens if proper action is not been put in place. Because ever since Late Professor Dora Akunyili left as the NAFDAF chairwoman within the year 2001 to 2008, no other chairperson of NAFDAF have been able to break the record she kept when she was still alive. Because this was one woman who never gave room to fake drugs, fake food, fake drinks and lots more.
