Sometimes I keep wandering if NAFDAC is just an entity or it's actually doing what it is supposed to do because the increasingly rate of fake drinks and foods in the market is too much. The fake products are just too much in the market and these are what leads to the increase rate in health conditions in our nation. I feel NAFDAC should focus more on what they are supposed to carry out and hereby ensure they investigate, verify, inspect and monitor products that are being released into the market for human Consumption. There should be an actively working office in all the states and if possible in all the local government areas in our nations at least to help uncover the people that hide to release fake products into the market.

NAFDAC is trying its best, it is Nigerians that should not have the act of wickedness. In May and July 2026 over 7000 fake products are known. There was a time NAFDAC reported removal of over 10 million doses of fake malaria drugs this year and so on like that. Many people are arrested and sent to prison because they are producing fake products. There are many illegal manufacturing places that NAFDAC shut down every time.

Every parastatal in Nigeria including NAFDAC is fully functional, the difference why it looks like they are not performing their duties is because of the corruption in the system, most parastatals are not given free hand to perform their duties including NAFDAC.

NAFDAC might intercept a container full of fake drugs, only for them to get a call from one top politician ordering them to release the drugs, most of the products Nigerians are using like peak milk, drinks etc are not the original one produced by the companies, during accreditation the companies will present the original quality and get approval of supply but will later reduce the quality during supply, they achieve this by giving some top NAFDAC and government officials some stipends and NAFDAC/government will look away as if they ain’t seeing it, not until corruption is fought to lesser rate in Nigeria nothing will change, every sector will keep on underperforming because most parastatals lack full control.

That's the whole point; there's a lot of fake products and food out there, and it will be very difficult for us to know them because they look exactly like the original ones. However, it's time we all reduced the way we eat canned food and drinks because consuming them regularly endangers the body to heart and kidney diseases.

I think currently, the government has banned sachet alcoholic drinks; I'm not sure about this information because I only hear someone saying it in my area. If that information is true, then I believe the government i,s also doing something about this issue.

NAFDAC is still functioning but the corruption in our country will not allow it to be functioning like before, even those companies that we are seeing thah they are arresting and closing them because of fake products is because them too have never start bribe those leaders that collect bribe, I didn't mean that NAFDAC is collecting bribe but our leaders do it and make the NAFDAC look like they do not exist again, there are many news about many fake products including the drinks we take, and some of those fake products are the reason why many Nigerians are having kidney pro.

The main duty of NAFDAC is to regulate manufactured products to ensure they are good for our consumptions but the thing is that they haven't been performing their assigned duties effectively. I feel like the agency is not well funded by the government probably which is why they haven't been able to clampdown on fake drinks and drugs that are circulating everywhere. We should always inspect how the products we buy are packaged, their labels and what's contained in those that are transparent enough.

With this cautious attention to our products we inject or prescribe to others close to us, we would have done the job of NAFDAC in ensuring we don't consume fake products.

It is really time to start asking whether we still have NAFDAC in this country or not, with the way the rate of fake products is increasing everywhere in this country.Before I knew about NAFDAC, they were really effective. They were even visiting villages and arresting people selling fake products. They were especially strict with shops selling drugs without NAFDAC approval. In fact, everyone was afraid to sell fake products.But now, people are selling fake drugs and even expired products. When it comes to expired products, not everyone is educated enough to know how to check the expiry date.The government really needs to look into the activities of NAFDAC and take the necessary action to ensure that they are doing their job effectively. The health and safety of Nigerians should be taken seriously.

They are there but not doing their job as it they are supposed to as a result of high level of corruption in the country, it isn't funny at all how it can be very difficult to identify an original products from the fake ones this days,  and I believe that this has contributed to the increasing sickness and disease as people consume harmful substance from fake products, before seeing topics I have been asking myself this very question. It very easy for we consumer's to stop the use of fake and copied products. But the main thing gan gan is how do we know if what we are buying  is the original or fake product ? Okay let say someone buys hollandia yogurt from a street shop, how will someone tell if they are consuming the original drink. Bevearage are one of the most counterfeited products in Nigeria, and an average person consumes them without realising.  This is the issue, hadn't been Nafdac implement more technological ways for us to identify a good product , then it will be easy for us to tackle fake products. For me i feel any products that a retailer,warehouse sells must first pass through NAFDAC inspection before being sold to the people.  NAFDAC themselves are not doing their jobs properly, yet they are collecting money from the government for operation.  It is because of them we are facing this fake products issue and It night get worse if they don't put more effort in their jobs.

What are you saying? How will not getting funds from the federal government make them to discard their duties, are they not paid salaries monthly? And what kind of funding do they need. If the agency cannot play their role in the society then they should be dissolved because there's no need of having that body while fake drugs and foods are circulating everywhere.

This one is not even a new thing, someone has even seen harmful particles inside of a coke plastic bottle so more cases like that will happen. Many products are even expired and if you don't look carefully and drink it into your body, it damages the kidneys.

You are right and if there is anybody who is using the NAFDAC logo or number to determine any product they're buying they are going to be buying a lot of those fake products because all the fake things they have created has NAFDAC number on it. meanwhile i was thinking the fake things they're making was only on drink but I didn't know that they are also doing the same thing on food stuff especially grinded pepe so actually people should avoid any grinded pepe you did not see when they were grinding it because you wouldn't know what they put insid, this is the time everybody should really mind what they're buying or eating.

I agree with you. NAFDAC has an important responsibility because the products people consume directly affect their health and wellbeing. The increasing presence of fake and adulterated food, drinks and drugs shows that more needs to be done in monitoring the market.

Beyond registration, there should be regular inspections, proper testing and strict punishment for manufacturers and distributors of counterfeit products. NAFDAC also needs stronger presence across the states and better collaboration with local authorities so these products can be identified and removed quickly.

Consumers also have a role to play by checking product registration details, reporting suspicious products and avoiding unusually cheap products. If enforcement becomes more consistent and offenders are held accountable, it can go a long way in protecting Nigerians.

I think we in diaspora know a lot that is going on in Nigeria than many people living in Nigeria. When I was in Nigeria some years ago, there has always been fake products. It is worse now because the way people were looking for money that time was not as much as it is now and there are more people now. There are many products that rebranded, have ways to confirm if their product is original just because of how Nigeria was before.

Do you know about Dr. Dora Akunyili which was Director-General of NAFDAC from 2001 to 2009? She has a sister that was given fake insulin and her sister died because of that. The fake products battle is not today that it started. You can see how terrible Nigeria was before.
