Drug Addiction: A Dire Threat to the Youth
Staff Reporter, Daily Jugantor: Drug addiction is rising alarmingly across the country, gripping the youth.
Many young men and women—including students from schools, colleges, and universities—are increasingly becoming addicted to substances like Phensedyl and Yaba. A widespread trend of Yaba consumption is currently observed among students of private universities and colleges.
Drug addiction is a primary cause of moral degradation among the youth. Many young people fall prey to addiction; a significant factor behind this moral decline is bad company. Many youths and adolescents lose their moral compass after associating with wayward friends. Our promising youth are abandoning their studies to succumb to addiction. They often pressure their parents in various ways to secure money for drugs. There have even been tragic incidents in the country where parents were killed by their addicted sons for refusing to provide money for drugs.
Drug addiction is corrupting the social lives of the youth and destroying family peace. The easy availability of narcotics is a major reason for this addiction. Nowadays, these drugs are sold openly in various bars and slum areas. Along with urban slums, city bus terminals have also turned into hotspots for drug consumption.
Speaking with our correspondent, several guardians alleged that a section of unscrupulous, influential individuals—and even some members of law enforcement agencies—are facilitating these activities.
Certain traders are cunningly luring the youth toward drugs, often involving them in the drug trade itself. Young people experience a temporary rush from consuming these substances; however, by becoming habituated to drug use, they are hurtling toward self-destruction.
The youth must be protected from the poisonous grip of drug addiction; otherwise, the nation will be plunged into darkness. Social awareness regarding the dangers of drug addiction must be raised.
