one year ago on October 6, 2025 Bitcoin set its all-time high of $126 198.07 as Coinmarketcap shows: https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin/

unfortunately, that price level did not hold for long due to a number of factors, including macroeconomic ones. notable among these were the tensions between the US and Iran which had already emerged by then and escalated into open conflict in February, as well as Trump’s "tariff madness," which disrupted global trade. long-term holders who began selling off their Bitcoin also played a role. in your opinion, what factors drove the drop in Bitcoin's price back then and when might we see a return to that all-time high?

Easing conditions for custodians could be a positive driver, especially since it's October, and you already know what that means. But how did we get to 126k last time? If I'm not mistaken: that was the expectation of Bitcoin's first crypto president, with all the attendant regalia + ETF. And if Trump had fully lived up to Bitcoiners expectations, we'd be talking about the already-reached ATH of 200k.

Personally I think we overrated Trump's administration on the price of Bitcoin, because the Iran and Us boiling conflicts has cool down but Bitcoin haven't yet jumped back to it previous all time high.
Yes there is some influence from that angle but it is not as strong as we thought at that time.

When next we would see another all time high is still based on several factors as you have already admitted. When the factors plays their part we would then have a new all time high, we can only stay positive that is could still be possible this year.

unfortunately, that price level did not hold for long due to a number of factors <snip>
Peak prices do not hold out for long in all of the previous cycles. In this case we stayed above 120k for ~5 days. In spite of the conflict and tariffs at the time bitcoin rose that high in value, that would not be a reason it cannot stay up there.

in your opinion, what factors drove the drop in Bitcoin's price back then and when might we see a return to that all-time high?
Natural factors of demand and supply. After a peak, the price corrects to a stable range.

in your opinion, what factors drove the drop in Bitcoin's price back then and when might we see a return to that all-time high?
Hmmm, that's sounds interesting.....!!!!
I would love to express my opinion.....

Typically Bitcoin always made a superb rally after a halving cycle and probably this time people were also bit optimistic about the rally like first Bitcoin will rise then Alt will try to chase but this time something happens different. When Bitcoin was continuously try to rise then big players realized that retails tarder are now in full of confidence then it's time kick them out. Let's go for profit booking because they knew it that this fat Ass "Trump" will try make something wrong like about Geopolitics as well as financial strength.....

So soon we saw that Trump first strat tariffs then interst rate decision like he was on mission to make US great and that why he triggered financial services for own purpose. So as results yield pop up high and due to this DXY got strength and it's cause trouble for Bitcoin because Bitcoin is risky assets.

The all time high price of Bitcoin does not usually remain stable for a long period. For example, the all time high price of Bitcoin on November 10th 2021 was $69k, by December of that 2021, price has already dropped to $46k. Follow the last year ATH, people already expected that price will drop once it has reached the price it wants. There are different factors that caused price to drop but  investors are big players in terms of price movement. Since the 4 years cycle have had some shifts, I can not say for sure when another all time high would probably happen but if we are already done with this bear season, that means price might likely give another ATH next year or even this year.

I don't think we're near an ATH.

As previous replies stated, there are many, many factors influencing this, and current world state doesn't provide a 'foundation' for btc price to reach previous levels.

We just got back to 85.000 levels after many months in the pit.

While I slightly agree that we attached too much expectations to Trump's adminstration and how it'd significantly affect Bitcoins for value, we still need to stick to the reality that Bitcoin the effect of the Iran Vs US military flare-ups in late February and March that affected the price of Bitcoin was beyond what he could control. Bitcoin wasn't even even targeted as nothing about it was Bitcoin-related, it was a direct military escalation driven by failed diplomatic negotiations over nuclear enrichment and missile infrastructure but unfortunately, Bitcoin was affected because it was a high-risk asset caught in a classic global market panic.

And now that peace seems to have been restored, you shouldn't expect Bitcoin to suddenly "jump back to it previous all time high." We'll can still reach a new ATH before New Year if broader financial liquidity improves and spot demand consistently outpaces daily seller volume.

The factors that drivet the price of Bitcoin back after ATH are:
Hype subsiding
being overpriced, the price settles naturally on what the actual value of Bitcoin is.
Change of market sentiment
FUD
institutional support pullback

I still think that Bitcoin's 4-year cycle pattern is still in effect so probably Bitcoin will start to rally towards new all time high will be after the next halving which is around 2028 and ATH might be seen in 2029.

I agree with you that we are not not near ATH as the current market sentiment, macro conditions and overall market structure isn't pointing towards that direction anytime soon but let's not forget that Bitcoin also possess the habit of changing direction and pumping aggressively when it's least expected.

In the Bitcoin market you can't be too sure of your predictions.

Respect for another all-time high around 2028 after the event of halving must have taken place, this is when the bull market kicks off, it happens every 4-year interval, which is the major bull run we always expect to see take place within the bitcoin circle.

Everything comes with a season, and this is why even the performing season for Bitcoin is quite different from when it falls and goes into a downtrend. Just know that the time is coming soon when the market will pump more, but before then, always take advantage of what you have today for an investment and try to hold to be part of those who enjoy the benefit of the bull run at an all-time high.

Do you think Bitcoin's ATH would have been longer if the Iran-US conflict had not escalated? I don't think so. The impact of the war was very short-term and very small-scale. So we don't need to overestimate the Trump administration or the US.

Have we seen any major changes even though the conflict has stabilized? I think Bitcoin has been on a normal trajectory and has gone into a market decline after the ATH, as before. It is true that we have moved away from the ATH much faster than expected, so I don't see any reason to use the US as an influencer.

Change of market sentiment
FUD

What you listed was fuelled by what Op shared as the reason for the drop.

After ATH we all or majority expected more until the wars and  other major Trump economic plans affected almost everything:
Market Sentiments and FUD but yet we all know things will get better and another ATH will be created with a more stronger trust.

We can say for a fact that this was better than the previous FUD and Market sentiments.

When will we break a new all time high is a tricky question. If I were to guess I would say in early 2018, but there are a lot of factors at play right now so it is difficult to make an accurate prediction. We haven’t ever had something like STRC in the market for an entire cycle before. It is hard to say what will happen when they reach the most BTC they can get and start hemorrhaging Bitcoin to pay the dividends. We caught a glimpse of it at the end of this cycle, the next cycle crash is going to be BAD. Luckily, we have nearly 3 years before that dose of reality hits our tastebuds.

and when might we see a return to that all-time high?

Get Bitcoin's price chart, split it in 4 years periods, see when the peaks were and answer yourself the question Wink
No matter how many times and how many people said "there's no 4 years cycle" and "this time it's different", the market went pretty much by the same cycle over and over again (with ever rising numbers).

unfortunately, that price level did not hold for long due to a number of factors, including macroeconomic ones. notable among these were the tensions between the US and Iran which had already emerged by then and escalated into open conflict in February, as well as Trump’s "tariff madness," which disrupted global trade. long-term holders who began selling off their Bitcoin also played a role. in your opinion, what factors drove the drop in Bitcoin's price back then and when might we see a return to that all-time high?
High sales, low demand. These are the factors driving the price decline. The cause could be fear, which is affecting investor confidence in the market.
As for when we’ll see the all-time high again, it’s highly unlikely to happen tomorrow. It’s also highly unlikely to happen next week. As for next year, I can’t say for sure.
Let’s consider the four-year cycle. Before we see the ATH again, there are other processes, such as the halving. So far, people have been waiting for the price to hit its lowest point after the ATH. Let’s wait for that to happen first before we talk about when the ATH will return. Does that make sense?

"there's no 4 years cycle" and "this time it's different", the market went pretty much by the same cycle over and over again (with ever rising numbers).

I think its there and block reward change matters but its surely a declining influence by now.   Greater factors exist as to how supply and demand varies and that must be by design I think.  Obviously BTC progressed alot over time, we aint in Kansas no more Tongue

BTC doesn't follow the year's months imo, the 4 year cycle would be superior to that time scale.  I reckon the entirety of 2026 is required to disperse the negative outflow in the beginning of the year.
Its consolidated and turned around but I wouldn't guess on a new ATH just yet and not as an anniversary, nobody is watching that.

Saying that when BTC does ignite it'll be far more obvious in threatening that new high at least in energy, it will happen in less time then expected once that level of positive action does begin.  I just don't think that's now or in sight especially.

What caused the drop in the price of Bitcoin to me is not necessary, because even if we know the factor or factors that cause this Sharp drop in price. It will make not save the situation, but if you must know Bitcoin is a volatile asset. This means that you don't expect the price of Bitcoin to be up always, this is the beauty of volatility which sums up the characteristics of Bitcoin.

To your second question about when, we will see this type of run which will see Bitcoin getting to all time high. If you ask me very soon because Bitcoin has been showing positive movement upward, we are gradually seeing Bitcoin move up to $90k . And when you look at the gap the difference is not that big again in getting to that all time high range.
