According to Punch news. A mother of one of the 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps members abducted in Imo State, Alirat Wahab, has narrated how her family borrowed money and received contributions from relatives and other individuals to raise N6m allegedly demanded by the Wahab said the kidnappers initially demanded N50m for each of the abducted prospective corps members before reducing the amount after the parents pleaded with them. She disclosed this in separate interviews with News Central on Wednesday and Thursday, following the release of the 20 victims. Recommended for her son’s release. Link: https://opr.news/13cb39f7261008en_ng?link=1&client=ex_yl_biteThis is really very abnormal, it is the duty of the federal government, and also that of the state government to take responsibilities of the youth corpers . These corpers are deployed to Imo state by the federal government of Nigeria to serve the country, and as well as the state, so if because of the security threat in Imo state these youth corpers are being kidnapped, it is the responsibility of the local government, state, and the federal government as well to fight for their release, and not placing that burden on the parents of those corpers making them to go, and borrow money to release their children from kidnapers. Normally when their is any security threat in any state they don't post youth corpers there for there own safety, now they posted these youth corpers in a vulnerable place, and the burden is now on their parents. I think it will be better for youth corpers to serve in their states where they are conversant with the environment, than risking their lives in places far away from their homes where the state, and federal government cannot give them security. What is your opinion on this?

What this has to tell us, is that, your security lies in your hands in this country, the government is no longer responsible for our security, sometimes I ask, is this really a country, how can parents go through suffering to see their children through the university, and after that they spend such amount of money not for anything good but for paying some kind of shit ransom just because our government fail to do what they are meant to do, what they know how to do better is to sell a candidate that is unsellable for reelection, too bad to have a government that doesn't care about their citizens, the purpose for youths service has been defeated, as it is, youth service has no meaning again, since corpers are now the target for kidnappers, a country of particular concern, I weep for my dear country Nigeria, kidnapping is now a normal thing, the government should as a matter of urgency pay the parents all the spent and also pay the corpers for the trauma their dereliction caused them.

Just imagine the level of trauma that both the Corp members and their families would have gone through this period, it is indeed a bad time to be a Nigerian because of this unending security challenges, children that came out to serve their fatherland were just being humiliated by this terrorist and yet it is still their families that struggled to raise the money for their ransom.
The insecurity in Nigeria is something that our politicians shouldn’t play politics with anymore, the life of Nigerians should be protected at all cost, this insecurity challenges is really getting out of hand, currently no one is safe anymore in Nigeria, am happy that the Corp members finally regained their freedom.

So long as a copper is still serving under the assignment of the government whatever happens is supposed to be the responsibility of the government but they seem to have forgotten that it was because of them they are there. I don't know why they steel send people to some communities in IMO state, some part has been fighting for years without a resolution till now so they should have suspended those places indefinitely so that nobody would get hurt while serving their country, even if this kidnapping has happened, it will not still teach the government anything because on the next batch that would be posted some will still go there.

I remember when there was serious fight/ crisis in some part of Rivers state onelga to be precise during this period of homicide government stop sending youth coppers to onelga for the safety of the corpers not to get killed or kidnap because a lot of horrible things was going on the local government, i think this is what government should do in any part of the country that lack insecurities or any part that fight is going on, just as you mentioned some part of in imo state and again it's the government responsibility to take of any corp members currently in service because they are part of government property, but you already know the country we came from this people are careless to her citizens they don't care if we all die or not.

I won't blame those in charge of sending graduates that want to take pars in NYSC to the states or areas that are hostile to them but I blame the corpers members that willingly report to the states where there are poor insecurity because they know very well if they get kidnapped, the federal government, or the state government and local government of the place they were posted won't make one single move in ensuring they are release. Any corp member that doesn't have money to work his NYSC out to the state of his or her choice, if he or she is being post to a hostile state or area he or she shouldn't report there instead he or she should re-apply in next batch if he or she can't be posted in a secure state or area.

What is your opinion on this? This is becoming very worrisome that every time on the news we keep hearing that Corp members are being kidnapped either on their way going to camp or after camping, it's the greatest responsibility of the government to protect this Youths and the way things are going people might boycott service due to the risks in going to camps and getting kidnapped and poor parents end up borrowing huge amount of money just to pay for ransom. I personally don't expect the federal government to be posting corp members anymore to a state that insecurity is perceived so as to avoid risking the lives of our Youths. Now imagine a scenerio where the parents of the abducted corpers couldn't raise any money for the abductors what will be the faith of those children?, it's very disturbing to hear this news and most times the federal government don't swing into action to seek for their release, it will take the grace of God to help this country because the leaders are nonchalant in carrying out their duties.

What is your opinion on this? When the complaint of kidnapping and killing of our children by bandits and Fulani rascals started in the north, were we thinking it won't extend to the south? When it started, Nigerians in the south were saying, Fulani rascals can't come to the south and try that nonsense they are doing there but we have all confirmed it now that these criminals aren't afraid of anyone including the government. Are you aware that some youth corpers were also kidnapped on their way from akwa ibom to Lagos in broad day light? And up till to day, the families of those corpers have not been able to facilitate their release because the money that the kinpappers are demanding is too much. This business of kidnapping has entered another level and everyone is at risk as we could be a victim but God will not allow such to happens to us. We all need to be careful, vigilant and prayerful when traveling by road because it is only God that can save us.

What is your opinion on this?
My opinion on this matter is that the government should be responsible for the Corps' security. Secondly, the Corps members should serve in their state, and if, by any chance, the security measures in their state are very low, then they should be transferred to a more secure environment for their own safety. To be honest, this is not the first time corps members have been kidnapped; some of them get kidnapped along their way to NYSC camp or when being transferred to other States, and this whole thing is becoming so annoying as it's something that happens almost day after day, and still, the government is not doing anything to help. Actually, everyone deserves protection, not only the corps members. If we only talk about them, what about those living in those areas where the corps members are being transferred to?
