Chroma is an independently developed, open-source Proof-of-Work blockchain written in Rust.
Its design combines **transactions without protocol-level fees, RandomX proof of work, and publicly verifiable source code**.
The project aims to explore an alternative cryptocurrency architecture with straightforward transaction processing, CPU-oriented mining, and transparent consensus rules.
Chroma is still in early development. I am introducing it to the BitcoinTalk community to share the implementation, gather technical feedback, and welcome developers interested in blockchain engineering.
## Why Chroma?
### 1. Zero Transaction Fees
Chroma's current transaction implementation has no transaction fee field or fee-collection mechanism.
Transactions transfer a specified amount between accounts without an additional protocol-level transaction fee.
The absence of transaction fees is a core characteristic of the current implementation. Network operation, mining, and spam prevention still have resource costs.
### 2. RandomX Proof of Work
Chroma uses RandomX for proof-of-work mining, with an emphasis on CPU-oriented participation.
The implementation integrates RandomX into block mining and proof-of-work validation. Users and developers can inspect the code and evaluate its behavior on their own hardware.
### 3. Open Source and Verifiable Rules
Chroma is publicly available on GitHub under the MIT OR Apache-2.0 license.
The repository includes transaction handling, account state management, block validation, persistent storage, peer-to-peer networking, chain synchronization, and wallet-related components.
Developers are welcome to review the code, report bugs, discuss the protocol, and contribute improvements.
### 4. No Premine Specified
The current protocol specification defines an initial supply of zero, meaning no premine is specified.
It also defines a maximum supply of 100,000,000 coins and a block reward of 1 coin per block. These monetary parameters are documented in the protocol specification.

Chroma does not currently implement confidential or anonymous transactions.
Transaction data includes the sender's public key, recipient address, amount, and nonce. These fields are not hidden by the current transaction format.
Improving transaction privacy is an area for future exploration, not a feature being claimed as already implemented.
## Development Status
Chroma is experimental software in early development.
Although core blockchain components have been implemented, network bootstrap and operational readiness still have limitations. The current development testnet is not intended to provide production-grade proof-of-work security.
The project has not been established as an independently audited, production-proven financial system.
## Contributions and Discussion
I welcome constructive criticism, code reviews, bug reports, security research, and contributions.
Topics of particular interest include:
- Zero-fee transaction design and spam resistance
- RandomX integration and mining performance
- Consensus correctness and chain reorganization
- P2P networking and network reliability
- Transaction privacy and future protocol improvements

Chroma is an experimental open-source project, not a promise of investment returns. Please inspect the implementation, understand the limitations, and conduct your own research before running a node or using the network.
Thank you for reading. I look forward to technical feedback and open-source collaboration.
