Was reading this on reddit which is an interesting and mind shaping for any trader who has never thought things about good-trade in this way except for just profit made. For a lot of the folks on the forum when talking of a good trade the psychology is usually about that trade setup that was a profit banger for them, and the strategic analysis that was involved. But here there's someone with a total different view on that, even though I almost ask myself what's the essence of trading if it's not to make profit?! And at what point can we say a trade is a bad trade even after making us some good profit. From an objective standpoint read what this trader had to say base on his experience as a trader that has being trading for years just as you. With your own true experiences share your disagreement and agreement with about his idea [

[ Basically the essence of trading is profit making, so whatever you are doing in the market will not make much sense if you are not making money from it. The only way you will lose a trade and it doesn't feels regrettable is if you learn something new in the process, because in trading you may get everything right and still lose money due to a bad news that goes against your trade, so losing money in the market is quite normal, but if you lost it due to your own failure for not getting your analysis right, or poor emotional control, then that is where the regret sets in.

Trading should serve as a means to generate additional liquidity for investment; therefore, it is not essential to strive for every single trade to be profitable. Instead, the goal is for the average outcome of these trades to be profitable, thereby generating more liquidity for users.

In my opinion, a trade is good if the trader made profit from it but judging whether a trader is good or not is based on the person's ability to have maintained using the same strategy for a long period of time and still have a high win rate with that strategy. Unprofessional traders go from using one strategy today to using a different strategy the next day and that's how they keep jumping from one strategy to another, in a period of 3 - 6 months or a year, they can not show result of executing multiple trades with just one strategy but instead they have traded multiple strategies within that time frame and they will definitely have more losses than wins.
I agree more with the last statement he made than the bolded statement at the top. One successful trade can be good because it returned a good profit but that one trade does not show how good the strategy you have used is and it does not also show how good the trader is until they have used the strategy repeatedly for a long time and are able to show good result with it.

which is an interesting and mind shaping for any trader who has never thought
He was right i also read it somewhere in a book or from my mentor i didn't remember clearly right now but i agree with him because if someone follow his plan and taking his decision with discipline and also understand why he is taking a trade even if in that trade he hit his SL he is still better then the person who act like a gambler does not follow his rules and just think about money because the second person and his decisions negatively impact his trading journey in the long run and he/she will easily manipulated by a market.

The best trade is when the market is very volatile and the position opened is against that trader, but the trader still manages to lose just very little amount of money or in a way that the trader will still make money later after all what that happened. A trader that can fall into this situation many times and still be able to make good decisions and make either little profit or little losses are the real good traders.

Sometimes, people tends to be easily obsessed with the next profitable trade without considering why they started the trade in the first place.
And when they're deep into it, taking unnecessary risk just to recover a loss or prove that their previous decision was right becomes an easy decision.
Consider trading as a means of generating additional funds for investment just like @hugeblack rightly said, it gives it a clearer purpose.
You don't have to be profitable in all your trades, you should be more concerned if your decisions are putting you on a better position in the long run.

Profitable trades can be considered bad and not only because of deviations from your discipline.
Just like in traditional finance a profitable year of a hedge fund will be called a failure if it was outperformed by S&P500 (or like in crypto holding an altcoin that's up in USD but down in BTC).
Everything is relative.

Well in most cases I would agree because the market is unpredictable, and whether your strategy is profitable or not you must always focus on improving it. Best to say a trader that trades irrationally doesn't have any aims building long term understanding like tolerance, risk management, and market understanding/analysis like basically, I am talking about aspects in trading that would further experience and discipline in order for you to make more profits in time to come. Still if you were to trade outside your strategy and you made profits, perhaps you were looking into other strategies and made profits from it then it's not bad. But if you were to take an impulsive trade and you made a good profit from that, then you should probably just see it as a lucky day and as well take note that as long as there isn't a strategy or analysis to it then it would be wrong to repeat such with the market, because there is no guarantee that the market is going to be in your favour next time. So perhaps it's easy to say it all comes down to what kind of trader you are, your goals, and your motive. to me this are things that separate traders aiming for long term growth,to the one's gambling with the market..that's all......

With your own true experiences share your disagreement and agreement with about his idea [ My definition of a trade is the entire order made in a day. By my definition, this order shouldn't be called a bad trade, nor should it be called a good trade. The parameters to rate a trade have to be measured by the results from all the orders done for that day. In addition, if a trader made a profit by mistake, he doesn't have to be happy because it was luck, not his strategy.

That's a fair judgement for him and I think that the positive attitude towards his trades changed his stand point from a big loss that he's made.
We're all different and to call if a trade is good or bad is subjective. One can lose and yet will say that it was a good trade due to the lesson he's taken.
And the typical is about making profit and all of these point of view are correct. It's not important to me if a trade is good because the whole point of why we trade is to profit and I admit that I've made a lot of bad trades and so you do folks I think.

The approach, process and strategies involved in trading is what makes one a trader, but the essence of trading is ultimately to make profit even though there's always the chance of making losses, but when the losses overshadow the profit that is supposed to be made with all the strategies that is involved over a long term even with strict discipline, it's nothing more than just an expensive hobby.
Therefore, no trader should ever be happy that after applying all the strategies and right process during trading, they still experience losses more than profit because that shows there's no growth at all because no matter how disciplined a trader is and they still experience lossess, there should also be profits to show that the strategy employed with discipline is actually working even if it needs constant upgrade.

Afaik, there are several approaches to trading, and when someone shares their own opinion, it's best to assume that it actually works for them. From what you shared, there's actually some sense in it. In as much as making profits is always the primary aim of trading, there's also a need to work towards developing a strategy that will remain effective in the long run, rather than looking for a one-time win with a strategy that's unlikely to work again. I believe trading is a continuous process, so, the whole idea of focusing on a one-time win doesn't really say much. I think at the end of the day, it all boils down to maintaining a consistent strategy that is effective... It doesn't have to be 100% perfect because there's no such thing as perfection in trading.

Whenever you have strategy it won’t guarantee 100% win . Which means that there will be some days when your set up will be clean and A+ but the trade will still go against you . Many things can lead to the trade going against , things like manipulation and stuff . What I usually tell traders is that don’t cheat on yurt strategy, don’t go against it stick it cause the moment you go against that strategy and you end up with profit you have already starting to wired your mind to constantly go against your strategy.

Is just like when we're classifying money into good and bad money, there isn't anything like that as money is money so it doesn't matter whether a trade is classified as bad or good but it' all about if the trade is giving you profits or not. Now there are some strategy that aren't sustainable if you want to further your stay in the market and that's when the strategy you're using comes into the discussion but if you're a smart trader then you should have issues switching between strategies to use the best that'll give you profits at that moment. Don't be stuck on using just one strategy but have multiple even though you master one that can give you profits anytime. Having multiple options is always good in anything that you're doing including trading.

I think a similar thing as before that is why both mistakes and good trades must be written in your journal.
Even if you won from a random trade or an accident trade, you already broke one of your rules. It's a total gamble doing that randomly. Remember, even newbies out there, do you think they can make huge profits by just following a few YouTube guides or randomly entering the market? That's rare, but look at those traders mostly on funded accounts or on prop firms; you can only join them if you strictly follow the rules or the whole system because if you don't follow them, you will never be accepted or approved by prop firms.
That's why having a journal for every trade you made and what you are thinking during that trade is a must because you need to review them. Just like me, I always write some notes, like why I entered, what I am currently thinking, whether I followed the conditions, and whether I broke any rules. Did I strictly follow the system?
Everything must be noted because it can help remind you of every mistake and good trade when you trade and build confidence based on your past experience.

I have not read the entire story of the post you shared from Reddit. However, you have asked based on the person's point number 6 that despite making a profit in trading, why is it not called a good trade? Now what is the reason for the person in the story to make such a comment? Actually everyone trades to make a profit, and how they made a profit should also be considered. The person in the story already explained the matter with an example because he said that he faced losses despite adopting many of his own strategies, but if a garbage trade makes a profit, then there is no way to call it a good trade, so he did not say anything wrong here. But if you make a profit like this and call yourself a good trader, then you may face big losses in the future.

The reality itself is that they can never be a one way to the success of trading and this is one thing which most traders actually do fail to understand and you see them mostly going code mentorship thinking that they actually copy the strategy of their mentor since he shows that it works and this is one thing we need to understand that it worked for someone else doesn’t mean it will do work for us too. Trading actually has the psychological part which is essential and the place where even those who copy each others signals do vary and the more reason why you should be going for a strategy that you do think works best for you and you can control your emotions. At trading you can never be guaranteed profits in every trades because no matter how great your analysis skills are it will most certainly not work in every trade, so the idea is always to find a strategy that actually gives you a good profit after an average trading period.

Judging whether the trade is good or bad, I don't think if it carries out a good plan and good set-up then rest assured the trading outcome is profitable, as well as if it carries a bad strategy and set-up then the outcome will be bad and unprofitable.
In the end, whatever works for you matter the most as long as it makes you profitable. Trading liquidity will always be possible, especially if you are trading the wrong way, although no one can really tell if we are trading the right or wrong way. As long as the outcome is fine, then there's no problem trading that way.
