Hey all,
Hey Mods/Admins, as I haven't been here for a long time, please let me know if I posted this in the wrong sub-forum or if anything needs to be edited. Thanks.
I'm back with a new game idea, and many of you will surely remember me — lovers and haters alike.
A few years ago I was already looking here for help developing my 10-card single-player Rummy game. I finally finished the proof-of-concept/beta version, including mobile play.
Before I move forward with my future idea of public tournaments with a $1 entry fee, where I plan for 100% of the entry fees to go back into the prize pool, I want to run a real public test first.
And where better to test it than with one of the most security-minded and critical communities in crypto.
This first tournament is completely free. No deposit and no entry fee.
The tournament requires a minimum of 30 registered participants before it can start. There is no maximum of 30. More players can register before the start and also after the tournament has already started.
Once the minimum of 30 participants has been reached, the tournament will start at the next 12:00 UTC and will run for exactly 24 hours.
Please be polite but straightforward with your feedback. If something is bad, confusing or does not work correctly, tell me. That is exactly why I am doing this test. >Your help is very much appreciated.THE PRIZES1st Place — $10
2nd Place — $5
The prizes will be paid in the equivalent amount of Bitcoin.
Prize Payment:The prizes are fixed
at $10 for 1st place and $5 for 2nd place. After the tournament has finished and the final leaderboard is frozen, the winners should send me
a private message on Bitcointalk with their Bitcoin address. After I have checked and confirmed the final result, I will send the corresponding USD value in Bitcoin, normally within
24–48 hours after receiving the Bitcoin address. HOW THE TOURNAMENT WORKSThe tournament runs for 24 hours.
Once you are registered, you can play as many hands as you like during the tournament.
The objective is to make a valid winning 10-card Rummy hand.
Your score is the number of cards you discarded before completing a valid winning hand.
Lower is better.
For example, a winning hand with a score of 5 ranks above a winning hand with a score of 8.
Your best result is used for the leaderboard.
If two or more players have the same score, the player who achieved that score most recently gets the higher rank.
If you later achieve the same score again, your position among players with that same score is updated again.
Valid Melds: A winning hand can be made entirely from sequences, entirely from sets of three or four cards of the same rank, or from any mix of sequences and sets. You do not need to have at least one sequence.
90-SECOND FAIR-PLAY RULEYou cannot simply keep rejecting bad starting hands until you get one you like.
After a new hand is dealt, Restart Game is locked for 90 seconds.
Refreshing or leaving the game during that protected period does not give you a new hand or an advantage. The remaining waiting time still applies.
After the 90 seconds have passed, you may restart and receive a new hand.
END OF TOURNAMENT / 5-MINUTE GRACE PERIODThe official tournament lasts exactly 24 hours.
At the official end, no new hand can be started.
If you already had an active hand before the tournament ended, you may continue playing that hand for a maximum of 5 additional minutes.
If you complete a valid winning hand during this grace period, the result still counts.
When the 5-minute grace period ends, the leaderboard is frozen.
PROVABLY FAIREvery tournament hand receives its own unique Hand ID.
Before the hand is dealt, the server creates a secret server seed and publishes only its SHA-256 hash. This commits the server to that seed before your browser creates its own independent client seed.
The shuffle is then generated deterministically using HMAC-SHA256 and Fisher-Yates.
While the hand is active, the secret server seed remains hidden, so the future cards cannot be calculated.
After the hand closes — whether you win, restart/abandon the hand, or the tournament closes it — the server seed is revealed.
The game has a VERIFY FAIRNESS function where you can independently check the server-seed commitment, client seed, nonce, deck hash, original 10-card hand, every recorded draw and the reconstructed full deal order.
If everything matches, the hand shows:
VERIFIED ✓Every closed hand also has a public audit URL that can be opened without being logged in, and the complete technical audit data can be copied for independent verification.
So you do not have to trust me when I say the shuffle was fair. You can check it yourself.
HOW TO REGISTER & JOINThis test tournament is open only to Bitcointalk members whose Bitcointalk account existed before this announcement was posted.
After you register on the Rummy website, please post your
Rummy username here in this thread from your Bitcointalk account.
I will then check the Bitcointalk account registration date.
One tournament entry per Bitcointalk account.
If the Bitcointalk account was created after this announcement, or the Rummy username is not confirmed here in the thread, that tournament entry may be removed.
LATE REGISTRATIONS ARE WELCOMEEven after the tournament starts with the minimum 30 participants, new eligible players may still register and join while the 24-hour tournament is running.
I am deliberately testing late registration now because this is also how I want the future paid tournaments to work.
THE FUTURE IDEAThe future plan is a $1 entry fee tournament.
The idea is that 100% of all entry fees go back into the prize pool.
For example, with 100 players and a $100 prize pool:
1st — $40
2nd — $20
3rd — $10
30 additional positions — $1 each
So in this example, another 30 players would win their $1 entry fee back.
If more players enter later, the prize pool and the number of $1 winning positions would increase accordingly.
This paid model is not active in this beta tournament. This first tournament is free and is only to test the game, the tournament system, fairness, mobile/desktop play and the general idea.
PRACTICE FIRSTYou do not have to register immediately just to understand the game.
On the opening page there is a
PRACTICE button.
You can play the game there first and get a feeling for how it works.
If you decide to join the tournament afterward, fill in your registration details on the Welcome page and click REGISTER. If you already have an account, use LOGIN / ENTER instead.
After registering, please also read the full Rules inside the game. They explain the game and tournament mechanics in more detail.
* Fair Play / Terms:One tournament entry per Bitcointalk account. Multiple registrations, cheating, exploiting bugs, or trying to manipulate the game or tournament may result in disqualification. I reserve the right to check suspicious entries and remove any participant who does not meet the eligibility requirements or tournament rules.
This is a free proof-of-concept/beta tournament. If you find a bug or weakness, please tell me instead of exploiting it. That is one of the main reasons I am running this test.[/size]
