Good work by the Thai government. However, this is only scratching the surface, as people will always find ways to bypass restrictions and hide their identities to access blocked online casinos. If the authorities also pursue and enforce the law to set a clear example, that's great then.

As for the reported 900,000+ casino links, i assume that number includes mirror domains and alternative/mirror urls belonging to the same casinos, rather than 900,000 individual operators. But who knows? I could not find any figures on the actual number of online casinos operating worldwide.

Online casinos know that they'll get blocked. Each one has 100s of domains. It's not like each one functions separately. They have the same infrastructure, name and the overall feeling is the same. But they get different addresses to avoid blocks.

They know enforcement against them isn't going to reach further then blocking them since they operate from abroad, so they play this cat and mouse game.

I dont think the number of online casinos is that huge. As it was said, almost 950k addresses were blocked and I suppose these addresses are mirrors and pages that redirect to a casino. Maybe they have closed down also pages that had casino banners or had any connection with online gambling.

According to https://statistics.casino there are only around 8100 online casinos that operate worldwide. That number look closer to being true, however I always though there were more online casinos.

900 000 weblinks doens not mean 900 000 doamisn, as it can include multiple subdomains too, it does include mirrors, it does include websites that promote gambling that are not casinos, and even if we're talking casinos, there could be just for that 10 mirrors for them across multiple domains.
Even without checking a list, I have a feeling there would be a ton of YouTube / Kick and other channels livestreams and videos there that they want geo-blocked, probbaly some x profiles too.

So no, the actual casinos might be two if not three, orders of magnitude lower in number.

I think that figure is rather an exaggeration being done by the Thailand government in order to impressed it's citizens and also try to scare off gamblers from using those services, the bigger the figure is, then gamblers would be more likely assume their favorite service got blocked.

As someone already mentioned, I believe that figure also includes mirrors and sub-domains of the same casinos.
I get the gambling industry has grown a lot in these lastest years but having almost one million sites sounds rather out of the possibilities...

The Indonesian government claims to have blocked 3.7M gambling websites since 2024. Here is the thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5588791. They may be right about the numbers, but it's not really effective in stopping gambling in a country like Indonesia, where gambling is illegal.

People may think, wow, amazing number. In fact, it means almost nothing. People can still access other casino websites through VPNs. For mirror sites, people don't even need a VPN. The casinos just simply use random names, with the format [word][number], like Domino99, Ludo46, etc.

In my country even the government claims to have blocked 3.7 million online gambling sites. However I believe the claim is that most 1 casinos have more than 100+ mirror links. Even so, the sites they block are scam fiat online casino sites. Interestingly, most of these casinos are owned by the government itself, the latest news mentions military service homes that are actively used as a place to run online casinos.

And blocking 900k sites is not necessarily mean it is 900K different casinos, it can be just a few hundred operating with that much domains to make the tracking harder and almost they were shut down in dozens everyday for scamming still they just keep popping up with new names or just the domains.

It's not possible for Thai government to block 900,000 casinos but they can block 900,000 domains because majority casinos have more than one domain. However, blocking all these domains wouldn't change anything because gamblers will always continue their gambling activities using various ways to have access to other casinos.

This number might be an exaggeration; it is also possible that there are misunderstanding thinking that all findings were casino platform.  It is possible that most of the sites are not actually a gambling platform but were associated as the article stated, like gambling review sites, gambling affiliation sites, or even a forum that discuss about gambling can be considered as gambling associated site.

It is easy for an ISP to block sites; if they want to block indiscriminately, they just need to add the terms that are associated with gambling casinos, in short, keyword filtering.

Kudos to those government who are actively seeking for those  illigal casino and those platform who ruin life of others. well that number is decent or small and I will agree on your statement that some of those number are because of mirroring.

I wish we had that technology to block illegal casinos, there;s os many illegal casinos being promoted by our local influencers, and like all the others, we don't have such numbers, but casinos have spent a lot of money on their mirror sites to make sure that their players can access them at times that they can't on their main platform.

Domain registrations are making a lot of money with these mirror sites, and the casino industry is one of the few sites that have mirrored sites. This is important for them to be competitive.

Why should anyone care about the numbers of casinos that are Available? There are some countries that we can't even get their accurate numbers and this countries have loads of online gamblers available.

It's like using a russian VPN and search for online casinos, you will see some online casinos that are running via Russia location and other far away countries too, search and result becomes so different from someone who is in England.

I'm just saying though, as a gambler the numbers of existing online casinos matters not to me, my experience on online casinos is all that matters to me, I can't even use more than one or two online casinos max.

Since it states "web addresses associated with online gambling", it probably also counts other platforms with affiliated links. In addition, there was a mention of AI-assisted tools, so there are probably a lot of false positives ^{[in other words, just take it with a grain of salt]}.

It is very possible to have over 900k casinos in the entire world, we have been always hearing of new names of casino on a daily basis and might be new to us, but is possible it might have been in existence for a long period of time but is just new to people hearing of it for the first time. Even on this forum alone I believe we have so many casino that you will not find or hear about outside this forum and will still be new ones as times goes on, but we were just fortunate to hear the names because we are privileged to be here, I believe there are also forums that are just like this and also have multiple casinos too.

I also believe casino owners won't just introduce their product to a nation without an approval from the government, as such It depends on the approach a nation gives to gambling that interest casino owners to attempt introducing new casinos to the nation and might not be granted much access of introduction. So for a government to have announced and claimed to have blocked that amount of casinos is possible and might be the truth, because I don't see the essence or gain to make up such claims.if not true.

The fight to scrap these casinos will continue but there is no certainty that they’ll ever achieve their aim, but they will see the results of their efforts. Gamblers, most especially the addicted ones will always find a way to have access to online casinos without the government being able to enforce ban on all of them. This number is quite large which means they’ve really done a great job, but for this particular case, it will be a continuous one for them to keep fighting.

Even 10% of that number is too many for the number of actual casino, legal and illegal and while it was a good move from the Thai government it will sadly lead to most of the country's gambling going over to use illegal casinos with VPN because no matter how much effort they put in they will never be able to put an end to gambling.
At the very least they will find satisfaction in the fact that it won't be as popular as it was before this move was made though I think the best thing a government can do in relation to gambling is to regulate it themselves.

I think a more suitable question is whether there are 900k gambling related domains or not. The hundreds of thousands of online casino related domains and gambling websites would be up to that number and more, Indonesia claim to block 2 million in 2024, but I doubt there is up to 900k online casinos, I have not seen any data that conveys such information and it's verified. Like someone already mentioned here, one single casino could have several domains and mirror sites, it could be all of those domains that are being counted and also some services that rebates to gambling such as affiliate sites, review sites, sports betting and even lotteries, so to block 900k URL does not mean it's 900k separate online casinos.

No, they are not, there was a report some time ago about UK also blocking some gambling URL and the number then was around 287k. Indonesia also did same, the number they reported was about 2 million, you can read it
