The first time I saw this news about Thailand, just one country blocking close to a million casinos, which is considered illegal, I was surprised, and there was a question about it in the thread. I don’t believe such a number of casinos exists. The only possibility I can think of, just like the others, is that most of the links blocked are mirrors and redirections of other casinos, as some casinos can have up to 5 different domains excluding their parent companies.

Until now I knew that online casinos are legal in Thailand. Because from all the vlogs I have seen, most people go to Thailand to enjoy the nightlife there. However, through your post I came to know that online casinos are illegal there. However, the 900k link block is actually a huge amount.
So in this, this is actually a good job by the government. However, no matter how hard the government tries, users can easily find other ways if they want. A simple example of this is VPN. However, those who do not understand much technical matters may not be able to access the gambling site and that can protect them from big losses.

Since there has not been any official count to try to establish the numbers of online casinos that operates we can't say if the data given by the government of Thailand is correct or not but, what is important to note is that the government of Thailand is taking steps in protecting the gambling population of her citizens by taking steps in sanitizing the online gambling sector in their country. Because there are so many gambling sites that one can access even the once that has ristrictions in your domain.

But as for the said amount of Casinos , I believe that most of the address that were blocked were all redirecting people to the casino. Because I don't think that such amounts of online casinos exists, until there is an official documentation I will not agree with those types of figures.

Good work by the Thai government. However, this is only scratching the surface, as people will always find ways to bypass restrictions and hide their identities to access blocked online casinos. If the authorities also pursue and enforce the law to set a clear example, that's great then.

With the use of VPN people can bypass the restrictions and the casino can simply use a completely new domain, all their efforts might just be a complete waste. The only way that the Thailand government can deal with this permanently is to set strict rules and consequences for having such operations in their country, this would not completely eradicate this but it would go a long way in curbing online gambling, it's better than just wasting their efforts.

Including different domains for each region, redirections, and affiliate links, it's hard to see only one country having so many online casinos operating within the country.

There is a false positive on that blockage that they have also included non-casino websites but had suit to the description why they have blocked it for.

Including the mirror links, I don't think that it is close to a million but who knows if that's the case. Since illegal casinos don't have to list on any government and they could have been included in that blockage.

I praise their government on that, imagine that it's with court order who managed to do it with 835k casinos for the blocking of those sites. That is seriously a lot.

I dont think the number of online casinos is that huge. As it was said, almost 950k addresses were blocked and I suppose these addresses are mirrors and pages that redirect to a casino. Maybe they have closed down also pages that had casino banners or had any connection with online gambling.

Let's assume that they blocked 900k casinos even though that's not possible, do you think that it stops casinos from operating and doing business? Emphatically no. They are always going to create new domains or use the alternative one they have if it already exists. Closing down pages with casino banners isn't much of a big deal to casinos.

The figure isn't really accurate statistically but it is easy to point out that what they blocked are actually mirrors and they can keep creating more if the previous ones keep getting blocked.

Mostly, mirror links will be included because that number is too high for one jurisdiction. But who knows? Nothing is impossible when it comes to gambling. I'm very sure that some sites will continue to operate even after the government claims to have blocked all of them.

I remember most chinese illegal casino links are composed like casinoxxacf123.xyz, and yeah there could be millions of them if this is how those sites are built. In fact i found an article reported about the detection of illegal chinese casino links too Infoblox links 1.7m Chinese gambling domains to illegal activity. So yeah, the +900k casino links blocked by Thai government really is possible.

I don't think it's up to that number ,I know there are so many online casino but  I don't think it has gotten to the figure they claimed , somethings can be said based on how they feel , considering online Casion is all over someone can possibly guess or make a false number just to feel alright but knowing fully well it can't get to the number ,and secondly casino are making billions so it's easy to feel with such profit it could that the number of it is wholesomely high, so it could be just exeggration .

Most countries besides Thailand may have up to this amount of supposed online casinos that's if considering the fact that mirror links and individual URLs are put into the equation.
So I think it's just a mere exaggeration of numbers because the statistics isn't spelt out clearly.
Most offshore operators use different web addresses to evade national firewalls, perhaps that's the reason for this large number quoted by the Thailand government.

I believe they were specifically targeting illegal or unregistered casinos and gambling services which could have been accessed from their country. Besides of that, the actual discussion is rather about how realistic the 900 thousand number is when comes to the total number of illegal casinos is on the whole planet.

Again, I think it would be fair to call this an exaggeration by the Thailand government, they were probably just trying to impress their national press and their people in general with the alleged effectiveness in this issue.

To understand what the government of Thailand is talking you have to understand that there can not be over 900k websites for gambling and perhaps they mean all addresses that will ever lead Thai people into any kind of gambling sites whether its within the country or outside ( offshore) gambling. it may not be direct links but all indirect and direct links that exist on the internet for gambling. if this is what it means then its definitely going to be more that what they have block except that is an estimated number.

I personally don't think its the gambling companies itself but bypass links that will link to both registered companies and unregistered.

It is hard to tell if we have over 900k unique online casinos, but there's a chance that provided number of blocked gambling platforms provided by Thai authorities includes a huge amount of mirror domains, alternative URLs, fake gambling platforms, and affiliates. Besides, i remember the last time i post was made about some guys who operate illegal gambling websites, and traveling from one country to another, people like them will always have many shady casinos/domains specifically to dodge blocks.

Why not? IMHO, it is quite possible to have 900k+ online casinos because it isn't very difficult to create an online casino. Here, we talking about the number of online casinos, we don't talk about the popular online casinos which can survive a long time in gambling industry. There must be many online casinos that we never know, we mostly know the online casinos that they exist in this forum.

Any country can trace and block the online casinos. But it depends on the regulation related to online casinos in a country. In the country that gambling is legal, they may never think to block the online casinos. And they will also never think to trace all the online casinos. What for?

Whether it's 900k or 9k casinos, I don't think it really matters, they'll just launch 900k new ones. Shutting them down only hits them financially and wastes a bit of their time. The people running these operations have more than enough capital to restart and launch new platforms overnight.

It's just like drug trafficking, you can bust street dealers all day but there's always someone ready to take their place while the bosses keep operating in the shadows. Even if a boss gets caught, a new one steps up. It's a losing battle for law enforcement. Those funds would be much better spent on public awareness and education to prevent kids from getting hooked in the first place.

It's possible, mirror link is alternative link that will direct you to the gambling site. So it must be included.

No. They're not the only country who can do that. The 900k is related to the links that will direct us to the online casino, which i believe most probably is just affiliate link. I often saw people shared their affiliate link. It makes sense when they have millions of gamblers, then 900k links sounds small.
Nevertheless, banning links to the casino is just a stupid thing because it can easily be generated.

Thai government never said that 900k casino were blocked. MDES itself has clarified that this number account for URL and online item. Not of separate website or gambling operator. So thinking 900k casino you misread the number.

And any single operator can easily manage hundred or even thousand of URL. This figure also include mirror site, promotional page of affiliate, social media page and content that appear in search result. I read Sigma's report on this matter, they stated that various content on website, search engine and social media platform was blocked. Therefore it would not be correct to count all of them as separate casino operator. Actual number of operator is far lower. Likely somewhere in range of few hundred to thousand. This is my estimate not any official figure.

Well, CoinMarketCap tracks over 60 million cryptocurrencies... Why can't we have over 900k online casinos? If nothing else, today it's easy to create a coin/token or a casino. But the question is: how many of them are unique & active? Probably less than 1%...

I agree with you... It doesn't really matter how many casinos/affiliate links/mirror links/clone sites they shut down, they will just show up in the next few hours. Like with drugs, they choose to fight a never-ending war and just waste resources that could be spent much better.

We have no way to know for sure but I think most of those casinos are not good enough or even if they are the majority of them maybe is only local to some countries. That figure is very high and most probably the Thailand government has included there maybe links who are not 100% gambling related but maybe they include some form of gambling there. Most governments want to do that also but I think they prefer more money from taxes rather than blocking access.
