The price of oil will increase with time because inflation is taking cover of the world day after day and month after month and this year was too much.

I have a motor bike that costs approximately 30-50 dollars a month depends on the destination. While a friend of mine has a chargeable bike since 6 years and he has covered more than 100 thousand kilometers till now and has saved about 2500 dollars, that is actually too much for a middle class person. He just changes battery after a year or two and the rest is saved. I am just thinking of replacing my bike to electric as well.

Do you think electricity can replace oil in the next 3-4 years or a decade?

Each new day I see more and more electric cars on the streets, mainly the ones who are destined to be used by Uber drivers. The change is real and noticiable in daily life. The tendency is that it continues like this along the next 3 or 4 years, unless batteries get too expensive or don't last long enough as expected.

He just changes battery after a year or two and the rest is saved.
That is what I'm afraid about... A battery lasting one or two years is too low. Regards electric cars it should last for ten to twenty years at least (1500 to 3000 recharge cycles).

I don't understand the kind of electric bike that you charge once in a year and continue using it throughout the year without charging it because the electric bike that I have seen isn't like that. You have to charge the battery daily after using it to boost it back in order to avoid it from stopping on the road.

Even if you are not using it, you cannot charge it once because it's a battery and will discharge current in 3-6 months timeline. I don't think that electricity will replace petrol in the long run because they have their own unique advantages over the other. Solar is expensive and an average income earner might not be able fund the set up of solar energy in his apartment.

It is not possible for electric-powered vehicles to totally replaced petrol powered one in four years. The cost, infrastructural limits, and low lifespan make it unattractive to many people. It might take up to a century to achieve global ditching of petrol-powered machines in some developing countries. The EU is targeting to phase out new fossil-fuel cars (90% CO2 emissions) in 2035, but many countries don't have such a target.

Did Op say some batteries are charged once a year? I don't think so. They said that batteries are changed or replaced once a year or every two years.

Let's tell ourselves the truth: electric vehicles will not replace oil vehicles within the timeframe you provided, but they will be adopted massively. The reason is because it depends on the region we live in, and currently, middle-class or poorer people might not be able to afford them. Actually, in most countries, many people have challenges with electricity, so it will be a bit challenging for them to recharge it, and even though you want to use a solar setup for it, it will require a while lot of money.

I don't understand the kind of electric bike that you charge once in a year and continue using it throughout the year without charging it
I don't think that's what he actually means; besides, there's no way an electric vehicle will be charged once a year and be used without the battery being drained.

The price of electricity is not the same in all countries. There are still some countries where petrol is cheaper than electricity. Both have their own advantages and based on both advantages, some are showing interest in electric vehicles and some are showing interest in petroleum vehicles. Even though solar energy is being turned towards, it is still very expensive, not everyone has the ability to generate electricity through solar energy.

However, it is true that the use of electric vehicles is increasing day by day. But it may not be able to replace petrol with electricity very soon. When everyone starts using electric vehicles, many will go back to petrol due to the increase in the price of electricity and electrical equipment. Even for long journeys, petroleum vehicles are still reliable, long journeys with electric vehicles are still somewhat complicated. Where it takes only a few seconds to refill petrol, it takes several hours to recharge the battery. Even charging is not possible everywhere and building charging stations is very expensive.

He didn't said that, it's about the battery replacement that can happen in a year or two as per OP. I think that's already quick in that period if an electric motor bike gets to replace its battery for that long.

But maybe that's what we'll have with the next generation's invention that with one charge it can last for a year. Battery capacity might increase soon.

Although 2 years is the standard replacement but it can be more than that, so depending on the usage too.

Do you think electricity can replace oil in the next 3-4 years or a decade?
Oil will still be needed, they're going to be good options because we can have either of them depending on our budget and need.

Both are having a high demand right now, one has to decrease with it eventually and that might be oil if ever the war stops and Hormuz is open again.

In my country where the cost of electricity is rising concurrently to oil, do you think even the rich are finding it easy to recharge their electric meters?
We see how much consumption most things we have in our homes in terms of electricity and I think solar panels cut more cost in comparison to electricity or even oil which is the worse.

For better profit and savings, it's better to revert to solar rechargeable batteries and technologies that are more efficient in regions like Africa where there is strong sunlight and other alternatives like hydro or wind turbines or green emissions or other forms of electricity generation methods, should be embraced to save cost due to rising inflation.

There are people that have sworn to never drive an electric car, also there are demands that are better meet with oil rather than any alternative form.
I think electricity has a chance to replace oil but being realistic this isn't happening in the next 3-4 years. Take for instance the electric cars, many companies are in a rush to produce them but th truth is that the result hasn't been Worth the while with several complains about the low quality standards.

That's also my plan, to save in the hybrid setup in my house and that's due to the possible rotational brown out that might happen in us, the cost of electricity is also surging here so we have no choice. So investing in solar panels and high capacity battery might be a good idea, it will also serve as good back up. I've read a lot of my countrymen who's got this setup and they're all satisfied of how much they save. But usually, ROI for investing in a solar setup is around 5 years.

I have a motor bike that costs approximately 30-50 dollars a month depends on the destination.
What motorbike is this? How long are your travels, how many kilometers do you usually do? Because with my newly purchased motorbike, despite the gasoline price having increased, I've used it for 2 months and only filled it up twice. Each fill-up only costs around $5 so, it has only cost me $10. And this is with the expensive gasoline we have because before the war happened, the cost of 1 liter per gasoline only less than a dollar.  Now the cost has jumped more than 60%. Before buying it, I was considering a honda electric bike but it's out of my budget and that's why I still chose the gasoline one and it didn't disappoint me so far for now.

What are you saying? A solar panel doesn't "replace electricity" - it generates electricity. But saying solar cuts costs compared to electricity makes zero logical sense when solar is electricity.

And it certainly isn't replacing oil, which fuels global shipping, heavy aviation, industrial manufacturing, and petrochemicals, none of which can run on electricity.  At least, not yet.

Any rechargeable battery can be a solar-rechargeable battery. But it's still just a battery, with all its flaws and shortcomings.

It's one thing to have electric vehicles replace petrol cars but another thing for provision of infrastructures needed to support them. Battery technology is taking over the globe no doubt but the cost of vehicles, charging facilities, electricity supply and battery replacement still matter. In some countries, the transition will be faster because of their technological advancement while for others, it'll be difficult to fully transition. So while I agree that electric vehicles could dominate the automobile market within the next 10 years, I strongly doubt that petrol cars will quickly disappear everywhere.

Do you think electricity can replace oil in the next 3-4 years or a decade?
As far as I know, 20% of the total electricity generation in our country comes from oil-based power plants. So oil is also needed to generate electricity, so it is not happening quickly in our country.

And there is a huge shortage of electricity in our country, a few days ago, load shedding was done in my area for 13-14 hours a day, so if electricity is supplied like this, it will be difficult to charge the battery. However, for those whose country has good electricity supply, an electric bike will be better.
I also had plans to buy an electric bike, but there is a shortage of electricity in my country, due to which I am not buying one.

In some sectors, Electricity may become more dominant in use than some other areas, for instance, We may have electricity taking over the scene of automobiles that is motor vehicles and motorcycles, in the next three to four years we may have more electric vehicles or a slightly higher number then we have petrol or diesel powered cars. Some countries already are shifting from dependence in oil, countries like Norway, Iceland, sweden are switching to dependence on other power sources like hydropower, wind power, solar to produces electricity useful in powering their cities and vehicles, and with this little dependence on oil as a major power source, they will not easily be affected by an oil crisis.

I don't think we have electricity powered ships and airplanes yet, so oil will still very much be in use even in the next three to four years, just have more people less dependent.

No I don't think so because at least the time is still short and the system is still tasting solar as alternative. In my country, I don't know if I have seen a car that is fully powered by solar energy (at least not yet from my base). Some gadgets are still partially powered by both and few years from now is very short for it to fully take over. But if we look at the advantages of electricity holistically, we can agree that it covers some of the expenses using alternatives because with alternatives like solar, you can charge a single item. What I mean is you get a battery for what you want to use it for but with electricity you can power different gadgets at same time with less stress. So if you compare the benefit, comfort and the ease, it is still better using electricity.

This is what I doubt will come to reality in a decade. My reasons are: how many electric cars or bikes that are in stock that the average citizen can afford.

My other reason, the availability of the charging infrastructure because if you check not a more than 3 cities in many countries that has a place map out of charging of electric bike or vehicle.

So, before any one can assume that electric bikes can replace a petroleum car in a decade, there should be high use of electric bikes, where they are charged, and maintenance ramped up everywhere

Oil prices are going up earlier and currently as well. People usually prefer chargeable vehicles now a days and many have it now , the environment and the trends are changing. And as a whole it seems that electric vehicles has an advantage, because a middle man can afford to have solar panels and later on the electricity for a day at least. Charging it for an hour or two could provide quite enough of ride.

It's rather ironic that Trump is so anti-renewable energy yet his endless fuckups causing the oil price to rise is making people think about these alternatives. The saddest part is he tried to curtail so many renewable energy projects early on and effectively screwed America twice as a result. Every other country in the world is developing these additional sources of energy because it reduces dependence on fossil fuels and gives these countries a more independent energy policy. They are not forced into sucking up to oil rich countries (as much) and can survive spikes in prices better than other countries can. It's even better when many average consumers have things like solar panels because the energy grid is a lot more resilient. It seems like a concerted strategy to push up oil prices but it's the common man that is suffering for it. Let's hope Trumps dire party gets kicked out next month.

If I'm not saying what I don't know, electromagnetic induction was discovered long before modern petroleum industry but over the years, the oil sector has been more significant than electricity because most of the things that uses electricity still needs oil to function very fine. However, many people will still be scared of using electric cars and bikes because of electrocution. When we want to analyse the possibility of something taking over from what has existed before, we should also look at its affordability to the masses because whatever technology that the masses cannot afford will not easily take over. Many people can't afford electric vehicles and the cost of maintenance is not also easy because those electric cars and bikes will also need to be charged regularly and its speed and efficiency may not really measure up with those that uses petroleum products. Electric products will be largely accepted but it can't replace the use of oil and lubricants.

If you're actually making a comparison between electric vehicles and combustion engines, then there's absolutely no way we're going to see a complete replacement anytime soon. 3-4 years, or even a decade, is not enough time to experience a complete transition in that direction. Combustion engines still have a huge place in society, and oil is still very important as well. Perhaps we're going to experience the long term coexistence of technologies that rely on electricity and those that depend on oil and other fuels, rather than a situation where one completely replaces the other.

The cost of switching is still a major factor for an ordinary person.  Someone may want an electric bike because it is cheaper to run but if replacing the battery costs a larger part of their savings, then they have to consider that too. I also think the situation will differ from one country to another where electricity is reliable and charging is affordable, switching makes sense. Where people struggle to get steady power, petrol may remain the option.

The change won’t happen just because electric vehicles are becoming popular, it will happen when people can afford to buy them, charge them conveniently and maintain them without worrying about unexpected costs. Oil may lose some of its importance but I think it will take longer than a decade to replace it.
